We stayed there after getting married at a registrar office. We booked a suite
Although we expected to pay alot more for this type of room we found it was tired looking and needed some tlc
Just the suite to be more modern. Have facilities like a fridge
Decorations were in keeping with the hotel but could have been updated they just looked tired

The Spa and settings are absolutely gorgeous, can’t fault it!
The hotel itself is incredibly dated, I appreciate it’s a period property, but the decor is tired. The rooms are small, and bathrooms are basic and not finished to a high standard, definitely not for the price you pay for the room.
The food is average, we had breakfast and dinner, and it doesn’t represent the price you pay at all.
All that said, the staff were lovely, and couldn’t do enough for you.
Overall I would recommend a visit for the Spa but if within travelling distance, save your money and stay elsewhere with more value for money. I paid £290 for one night, with rooms then going for £150 on the night, which would definitely be more in price bracket I would recommend.

Staff were nice
Meal at night was bad breakfast was excellent not to my taste

The staff and food here were absolutely brilliant. And it’s a real shame everything else lets it down. Ever so friendly and welcoming. When I spoke to them regarding the issues with the stay they were very helpful and dealt with it really well.
My room was in much need of refurbishment. From the sink not being fixed properly, the bottom of the shower had no seal so would flood the bathroom. The flush button on the toilet wasn’t in properly. The bathroom hadn’t been painted properly dispute it undergoing a recent “refurbishment”. One of two indows, there was missing so you couldn’t fix it in place. All of the paintwork in the room is tired and shows cracks. All of the spotlights have cracks around them and the carpet had numerous stains on.
There was a wedding at the venue but there was music until gone midnight outside.
Overall the rate for a standard room is embarrassing when the hotel is in the state it is. The corridors smell fusty and not pleasant at all.
I stayed during May when it wasn’t too hot but the room was really warm. There’s no air con or a fan so I had the windows permanently open for both nights I stayed.

The hotel is exceptionally beautiful and offers great comfort. The hotel staff is dedicated to ensuring your utmost comfort and satisfaction, going above and beyond to meet your needs. The staff is friendly, helpful, and amazing. The room is immaculately clean and well-organized, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay.
I don’t have anything to complain about this property.

Nothing of note at all

Friendly and helpful staff at Reception and in Restaurant.
TV did not work, no WI-FI connection in Room (44), waited ten minutes for hot water to come thru in morning, but was only warm, so no shower.

Great overnight stay with the family for a birthday celebration. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Dinner in the main restaurant was lovely, lots of choice and great tastes. Breakfast options were brilliant. A great place for a weekend away.
Coffee at breakfast could be improved.

Honestly a beautiful hotel / spa , one of the best spa’s I have ever been to . They truly have thought of everything , if you need to de - stress then come here ! I’ve never felt so relaxed in my life , beautiful staff from the moment you walk through reception - nothings too much to ask for and everyone is so friendly. Couldn’t say a bad thing about it! And exceptional value for money , thankyou so much for an unforgettable stay ❤️
nothing!

The hotel was lovely. The decor was very period. The food was also great and reasonably priced.
The amenities in the rooms were ok. Although you could have had a bigger TV. It was very dated. Although we booked a double the room could have held a bigger bed, and for £300 a night it's something that should come as standard.
If you're looking to book be aware, the hotel has no knowledge of the workings of the SPA. Although they seem like they are advertised together, they couldn't give us any information on the SPA, then we realised they were two completely businesses.
Also for me as lovely as the hotel was, the price tag of £300pn for one night wasn't justifiable considering the SPA wasn't included.
If you plan on using the SPA book up well in advance, a full day is £200pp not including extras. They have an evening price of £75 but it shuts quite early at 8pm.
So if you do plan on visiting Ye Olde Bell in Retford at the weekender, for a spa day and a night at the hotel be prepared to spend nearly £1000 per night for two people.

excellent showers, good food and helpful staff

The staff were lovely and accommodating. The building was interesting and historic which we love.
The two hand towels in the bathroom were both dirty/marked brown, the kettle had hot chocolate spilt on it and the tea tray options were poor. The breakfast was good but the vegetarian main course was oily and there was not good vegetarian options for dessert. Overall the visit seemed a little over priced for what we received.

character property…..had lots of facilities although we didn’t use them as we were there for 1 night for a wedding
we had a suite … which was nice and big and comfy I was surprised to see as the rooms were warm no air con, perhaps a fan could be left in the summer and I think this would be appreciated by quite a few
apart from that a very comfortable stay.

breakfast was ok, staff were very nice, and the rooms where comfortable
the disappointing part was arriving at 5.30pm on the 6th june, only to be told the spa was shutting at 6.00pm, and it didnt open on the Tuesday(following day).
the hotel is advertised as a spa hotel, and was looking forward to chilling after a 400 miles drive, and it was the reason i booked, so to say its a spa hotel is slightly misleading.

the reception staff were very polite and helpful. food was good and beer excellent.
the main hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment with chintz abounding in the rooms and curtains that didn’t block out the light. The decor in the hotel rooms is from the 19th century.

We have stayed here twice before so obviously we like it ! Staff are very welcoming and the rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is good.
Surprisingly, dinner did not meet the standards of our previous visits. Service was slow and main course was only warm when it eventually arrived. Difficulty getting the bill too ! Not sure what the problem was that evening as dinner service has been good on our previous visits.
