Lovely generous welcome tray, beautiful garden
Room was slightly small
4.1
Beautiful, you can see attention and love to each detail at the property.
4.1
The hotel is very nice. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Service throughout was outstanding.
4.1
A nice looking hotel with a good feel which looked like it had recently been upgraded.
The finer details need attention :
Most uncomfortable pillows we had ever slept on
Hand soap dispenser in our bathroom didn’t work on arrival
The bed valence was too big for the bed and looked unattractive
Lovely crockery but the cutlery was not to the same standard
4.1
Super stylish hotel in a lovely setting with helpful and friendly staff on hand to look after you - well done 👍

Staff were all pleasant and welcoming. The room clean and comfortable with a nice supply of tea and coffee. A good choice of breakfast.
4.1
Was here for a wedding
Clean room with toiletries fluffy towels selection of tea coffee and complimentary biscuit

Staff on reception, bar and in general couldn’t do enough for us. Relaxed atmosphere
4.1
Not clear you had to make dinner reservations before you arrived. At first said for second night restaurant full to my daughter ,but then when we asked again said last table 1915 which was fine but would have been upset if none available as did not want to drive anywhere after long day out and nowhere near .

Absolutely gorgeous spot , fantastic food and bar. Free wine on arrival. Wonderful staff.
The room was quite dusty, maybe not been used in a while but it was not a situation at all that was worth me not ever staying again. I felt so happy and relaxed and staff are great, only little downfall
4.1
Location and quality of food
Some of the staff could do with some training in dealing with guests
4.1
Lovely location, staff and general layout - its a lovely place but the restaurant let it down in terms of service (food was lovely)
Service in the restaurant was very poor. Not just very very slow, but confused with dishes going out to wrong tables and courses landing out of sync. Huge shame as the food is lovely. Breakfast was the same - potentially lovely food but all cold as service let it down . Plates were not cleared or tea sorted etc

Everything was lovely, food, drink, accommodation and the added bonus of a bed for the dog plus bowls.

Everything! Picturesque location, plenty of parking, spacious room, comfortable bed, pleasant efficient staff, nice lounge, croquet pitch, excellent breakfast freshly cooked.
Nothing!
4.1
Good check in
Attractive room
Location for our requirements was good
Pleasant staff throughout
Room was a bit hot but better when we discovered an electric fan
Dinner was tasty but very slow drinks service (had to chase) and very expensive relative to what we paid for the room (£150 for two of us which was only three drinks and two courses). We were seated in the Orangery the night we were there and although a nice space it wasn’t special enough (no table cloths/tables very close together etc) for the cost
4.1
Lots of variety at breakfast, served in very pleasant surroundings. Hotel in beautiful part of England, quiet at night, very comfortable room and bed.
4.1
Layout and outside space
Nothing. The only issue was trying to get a taxi to/from Oakham. A long list provided by the team, none of the taxis could help.

Booked for our wedding, wedding team fabulous, excellent day, highly recommended

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice.
We had a meal in the hotel on a Sunday evening. From ordering to being served was almost two hours. The food was very good but the wait was very disappointing.
4.1
Lovely location.
Generous quantities for Breakfast and Dinner
Staff were very helpful, in particular dealing with issue with bathroom fixtures. See below
2 out of the 3 days were given over to work gatherings with some upheaval at Dinner time, and with unacceptable noise in the evening one one evening. Barnsdale had always been a welcomely quiet and peaceful and haven for a few days, in perfect keeping with the natural surroundings.
If the management persist with functions of these kinds then many of the regular clients will go eleswhere.
We have stayed at Barnsdale several times, typically around this time of year. At present it is unlikely we will stay there
From above, we were not impressed with the "accessibility" bathroom. No toilet seat cover, no plug in sink, no shower curtain, only liquid soaps from dispensers. However, the staff were very responsive when we flagged this up.
4.1
The hotel was beautifully presented with plenty of sitting areas inside and out. The food was really good. Staff were really friendly.
Bathroom doors stuck and were difficult to open
4.1
friendly staff
no hairdryer
no iron or ironing board
old wine bottle left on top of wardrobe

A wonderful place set in lovely countryside.Fabulous staff nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed for my Son's wedding and they helped make it a perfect day.
It was all exceptional

bay staff were very slow but very friendly

Quiet & nice ambience

The staff are always very friendly and welcoming, which is a big appeal and much appreciated.
The renovations may not be to everyones taste but for me they work and add to a welcoming retreat.
The rooms are poor value and recent changes to the naming leaves guests unclear as to what is on offer.
'Royal' rooms are actually just standard rooms (£210 with no breakfast via Booking.com)
'Classic' rooms are shoebox rooms and best avoided (£135 with no breakfast via Booking.com). I could not sit straight on the toilet as the room was so small.
As a frequent global traveller I know good value (or otherwise). This is the first time in a long time I feel cheated when booking a room and not getting what I expected. Check carefully when you book.
Breakfast was offered at £14.95 extra per person. Really??

The upgrading of the hotel has improved certain facilities, including the furniture in the conservatory, which needed an upgrade, and the bathroom in our room (most of these were very tired before). Moving the bar to give it more space has also been a plus.
The hit-and-miss service that has always been a feature in the restaurant and bar of Barnsdale Lodge hasn't yet been improved upon. An efficient maitre d' is needed at meal times, and the systems and staff training could be much improved. Sitting in the revamped 1760 restaurant (as opposed to the conservatory area) feels a bit like Crewe Junction, with staff periodically whizzing past out of the kitchen to go to one of the private rooms. The food is good, but the menu is a bit limited in range (and isn't cheap).
4.1
Lovely spacious comfortable room and very comfy bed. Good breakfast choice and quality to match,
Delicious food on the dinner menu over all 3 courses, beautifully cooked and presented with good wine to match.
The outside pathway will be lovely once the area is fully planted and established.
Another flat surface for our own items, e.g. computer would have been useful in our room. The narrow selection of teas was disappointing - no fruit/mint/ camomile options. Nowhere beside kettle to put wet spoon etc - it's a small thing, but making a cuppa just hadn't been thought through! I had to go looking for the waitress on our second morning to get a coffee 🙁. Everything is in place for Barnsdale being an excellent hotel, just not quite there yet.
4.1
The hotel was lovely. Much recent refurbishment was really nicely done. Room was spacious, warm and very comfortable, and the shower was excellent. Staff were fantastic without exception.
Only a small gripe: the quantity of breakfast served could be a little more generous.
