We used this The Grand Nikko Awaji for visiting family recently moved to Awaji. The room was stunning and the view exceptional. While researching the Grand Nikko English website, room selection and planning our mode of transport from the airport, we found that it was not as comprehensive as the Japanese and not being able to read Japanese was a problem. We phoned the hotel and the wonderful CRM manager Y Uchimizu went above and beyond helping us get organised with transport and room selection. The bed was comfortable, room spacious, balcony accessible. Bathroom was fabulous with good shower and bathtub. Western breakfast was average, with poor variety, cold eggs, non-crispy bacon, no wholemeal bread assortment, . My partner loved the Japanese breakfast, which she said was delicious in every way and had great variety. Coffee as often in Japan was mediocre.
The breakfast. The coffee. And would have really appreciated free access to the swimming pool. We were sad not to use it.

Room size is big and the breakfast is good.
I was quite unhappy with the hotel arrangement. We booked 2 rooms and they separated it quite far. I understand that the didn’t guarantee for a room even on the same floor. However, during my 10 days travel in Japan, this is the only one hotel could not arrange. We have booked the room at least one month in advance and we did request in the booking message. In addition, the location of this hotel is very inconvenient. The staff told us that we need to take about 30 minutes walk to have a convenient store. So, if you are traveller not driving. You can’t move around. Furthermore, it is the cleaning conditions. There were some throw up dirt stick on the rubbish bin on the floor lift lobby at 6/F. However, there were no one cleaning it during my 2 days stay. The staff is nice but could not provide very fruitful information for travelers traveling by bus.

the hotel basically has no lobby...particularly after 9 pm..they shut all seating areas and come yell at us fo trying to sit on couches. unbelievable rudeness.
no access to food at late hours..place is so secluded...and do not have 24h room service

The views were perfect and the compound was really large and nice. The bed was very comfy and we chose the king size bed room configuration and we woke up to a beautiful sunrise scene.
Shower gel and shampoos etc are in small bottles, could have been more sustainable like other hotels in Japan where they provide big bottles in the bath for such amenities.

The JR Expressway bus stop is in front of the hotel which was very convenient. From the time we stepped off, we were greeted by the most welcoming, smiling, lovely staff we have encountered! We were allowed to access our room hours early and it was so appreciated. It is certainly an older hotel, but the room we stayed in was immaculately maintained and clean. It was a huge room. I’ve never stayed in a room in Japan that included a luggage/dressing room! The hotel is set amongst very interesting architectural designs, and has a buffet breakfast and lunch, which we took advantage of several times. I’m vegetarian and appreciated the signage on the food indicating allergies. The bed was heavenly, with extra pillows. There’s a great gift store on site to buy gifts for family. But the true gem of this hotel is its staff. Everyone we came into contact with were just truly lovely people. The young fellow standing out in the cold on the curb helping people into their taxis etc was such a sweetheart.
If I had to nitpick, I would ask for a changes to the buffet so that if a customer is eating there for several days they will have new things to try. The price was pretty high but I did end up eating very similar meals at every sitting, due to being vegetarian.

Everything! Staff treat u like a princess, really good big room with ocean view. Many cool architecture located inside hotel so u can just sleep and have a look at all Tadao Arch plus having bus almost every 15 min from hotel to all main train or bus station.

The hotel is near a beautiful park, it has an affordable indoor swimming pool, and there are shops (inside the hotel) that prepare lunch/dinner boxes if you want to eat in your room. The service and the hotel structure were good. The view fro the balconies is very nice.
The cleaning staff could vacuum the moquette (carpet) flooring better. Apart from it, I have nothing to complain about. We had a good time.

Room was nice size, the bathroom was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the patio with open views. The hotel was located amongst an amazing park and gardens; as well as close driving proximity to kids parks nearby. Staff were great, especially the room service staff.
Had to pay full price for use of the spa and pool but there was only two hours remaining of available use. Was very expensive for two hours of use.

Tadao Ando garden was good, but obvious they lack money as patchy. Hotel is a monster - hard to operate well without huge expenditure to maintain. It’s well maintained but no insulation in room walls so hear everything of next door people staying. We changed rooms 2 times but could not escape noise. F&B they tried hard but it’s just 4 star. Staff are exceptional so overall it’s ok for one night to see Tadao Ando gardens
Lousy noise issues in rooms. F&B just average

the place is extremely beautiful and the window view is just incredible. Room was really spacious and nicely equipped. I can additionally say that bed linens and mattress were very comfortable.
The architectural surrounding is a masterpiece and the nature is so beautiful in this area.
Now about disappointments
- I feel it is ridiculous to have an additional charge for the fitness facilities for that level of the hotel
- the breakfast menu is really small and definitely doesn't have a proper quality level as well as the variety
- the biggest disappointment was the cleanliness level - as I have found someone's forgotten pair of socks in the corner of the room what means vacuum cleaning hasn't happened in this area at all what is unacceptable especially in terms of the current virus situation!!
