Staying at Leeuwenbosch Country House was definitely a highlight of our South Africa Roadtrip. The house is very clean and it’s furniture and especially the people make it very homey. We felt comfortable and welcomed right away. Everything is catered for and the food was really good. But the highlight were definitely the game drives. We only stayed for one full day but saw 4 out of the big 5. It was a very special experience!

The game drives were awesome, the staff were great, the gardens are beautiful and the property has a homely feel.
The showers really need maintenance and there was no information about what was for lunch or dinner and no choice. Having said that, the food was ok, but a choice from even just two alternatives would make such a difference and reduce waste.

Amakhala consists of several old farms which decided to give up farming and start as a game lodge (years back). So nature reconquered the plantations and ecologists supervise the balance of animals. Leeuwenbosch is one of these old farms.
We did two game drives (afternoon and early morning) which are included in the room tariff. Ranger Eubut is phenomenal, he shares many information about animal and plants and their habitat. We saw Cheetas, Elephants, Black Rhinos, Hippos and all kinds of Antilopes, Birds and small animals. Amazing!
Food (which is all inclusive) was excellent and served by extremely friendly personnel. Extra point: there is a pub where you can sit with other guests before / after evening dinner and have a drink and chat.
Bottom line: Very pleasant stay, very nice game experience. Recommendation!
Bathroom would require some refurb

Arriving at Leeuwenbosch is like stepping back to a time of gracious living. The house was built in 1908 and has large rooms tastefully decorated and full of antiques and family portraits. Frint of house Kerry welcomed us and gave a guided tour of the property. Her husband Steve was also on hand to make sure we were comfortable. Our guide Ouboet was exceptionally knowledgeable, not only in fauna and flora, but also in the area’s history. All the staff were smiling and courteous.
Can’t think of anything!

Nice location. Rustic charm. Friendly staff. Good food.
Some renovation needed in rooms, especially bathrooms. updating some of furniture would also help.

The Game Drives wirh Malik, the friendly Staff in the kitchen and for cleaning. The helpful stuff in every situation, especially when we realised we forgot a phone in the room.
The very loud street close to the house. Its almost impossible to relax outside the house. About that street should be informed every guest in advance.

Safari drives were excellent
Room was spacious
Food was plentiful and tasty
Weather was hot and room was not adequately air conditioned- the fan only cooled one bed and could not reach the other bed
There was no shade or umbrellas to sit under outside so we had to sit in our room all afternoon
Pool area was muddy and no proper tiling and inadequate shaded area

What a truly wonderful experience we had. The game reserve itself is so vast with such diverse terrain and animals. The drives were incredible with fun 4x4 rides across various terrain, incredible scenery with sunsets/sunrises/lightning storms, and amazing animal encounters. We were fortune enough to see lions, elephants, rhinos, Cape buffalo, cheetahs and the one leopard they have along with many others. The guides were superb with their knowledge and ability to find the animals of most interest. The schedule for the day is great and the staff were so helpful and looked after us. The room was cleaned and made up/turned down several times a day. The food was exceptionally good with multiple courses at each meal
Was a shame we didn’t get to speak with the legendary Bill and Rose however we understood the difficult circumstances reasons why. The property is a little outdated and run down but it only takes one day to look past this when you experience the amazing experience there and the wonderful staff.

The accommodation was comfortable and spacious and the food excellent. The hosts and staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the 4 game drives we experienced across our 2 night stay were exceptional with so many animals seen at such close quarters.

Superb family run game lodge of great character. Very high levels of service in a beautiful setting. Extremely knowledgeable rangers who explain all the wildlife not just the big 5. Unforgettable.
Aircon in the bedroom would have been the icing on the cake as it was 40c when we stayed.
