Stunning deck with views on Kili. interesting little oasis with eyecatching architecture in a quaint environment. Friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
For the price, the amenities were a bit lacking (e.g. a pool, even a small one, would really have uplifted the experience. Restaurant atmosphere a bit lacking and though the food was good, again pricey (as was the 50 USD taxi to JRO airport).

What I enjoyed the most was the excellent service from manager Justina and driver-guide Oliver - both of them made my stay truly enjoyable and memorable, and I thank them both very much for that. Location is excellent for trips around the area and also due to the garden platform with view to Kilimanjaro. Excellent food - I especially enjoyed the wonderful juices of local fruits. Very nice with the fire place lit at dinner time. I was impressed with the very nice amenities in the bathroom. A perfect place to stay and highly recommendable.

We stayed here as a treat for our last night in Tanzania - and also our anniversary whilst on honeymoon - and it was just as special as we'd hoped. The deck is incredible with stunning views of Kili (if she's not feeling too shy). Food was amazing if a little pricey for dinner with a fixed cost of 20usd pp but we were treated wonderfully, gifted a bottle of fizz and had a lovely relaxed 24hr stay.
The location is a bit remote, and the dinner price was a bit steep but everything else was wonderful.

The location in heart of Kilimanjaro forest. The staff was super friendly!
The shower was not fixed properly, one electrical outlet in the room.

Wonderful place with even better views from the deck.
Staff are very accommodating and friendly
OMG, the food is Wonderful, I will miss the Thai veg curry & the delicious baobab juice.
Overall a great stay
We enjoyed our restful stay
If I had to be picky=
Water pressure can be an issue.
We spent most of the time trying to correct the temperature or it would blast the water or drop in pressure. Alot of wasted water unfortunately
Music from nearby settlement on certain nights
Their cost for airport transfer is very high. We found a cheaper option online

Everything really! From design to comfort to restaurant to staff!
Staying there was an incredible experience. Best post-summit experience, in just 1 day and 1 night I completely recovered from climbing mount Kilimanjaro.
I would go back to Tanzania just to stay there again.
Can only pay cash.

The location was perfect, as we wanted to be close to Kilimanjaro and to have a good view of it. Kaliwa is located in the middle of an agricultural zone, filled with very nice and friendly people. It is a very well-run hotel, with good rooms, beds, pillows, etc., but the highlight is its personnel. The warmth, efficiency, friendliness, and devotion to good service shown by Justina, Josephine, Vivian, and Lina (the chef) were in fact remarkable, in itself a justification to go to Kaliwa. The sensation of being appreciated as a visitor was overwhelming. The food is incredible, starting with breakfast which was out of this world in its completeness and its quality, all meals were an experience of different flavors, with the best ingredients. Because at this time of year it gets a bit fresh in the evening, we always had a fire in a cozy living room, with wonderful books to look at, enjoying a perfect gin and tonic, waiting to be served another wonderful dinner. Service went beyond the hotel, as Justina organized a hike to Kilimanjaro with Edmund, a fantastic guide, motivated, with good English, and very knowledgeable, while taking care of the recovery of our luggage which had been misplaced between Kenya and Tanzania, and it was waiting for us when we returned from Kilimanjaro. Kaliwa's deck, overlooking a river, with Kilimanjaro in the background, is something truly special. I congratulate the owner for running such a good operation, something in which the quality of her personnel obviously plays a very relevant role.
The WiFi signal in the room was OK, but when I needed to do more intense use I had to go to the lobby or the dining room. I am sure this will be improved as signal coverage improves in that area.

What a magical place!!! In the heart of the forest, surrounded by banana trees, coffee trees...First of ale, of course, the deck. It is the rainy season right now then the Kilimandjaro is rather shy. But when suddenly the African giant showed, it was a moment of vivid emotion. And The deck is literally facing the mountain. The garden is absolutely gorgeous, specially these passion fruit bushes. The whiskey bar is very retro picturesque. Its looks like a Edward Hooper painting. The fonctionnalist Bauhaus architecture of the buildings is a fantastic idea because the contrast with the lushy forest is surprising. And the staff...and the food....the staff is so kind, so helpful but at the same time so discreet. And everything I have eaten on the menu is fresh and tasty.. It was a shame that my stay was so quick but I know that I will come back very soon. I have to stress that I don't know and don't meet the owners, then I don't have a personal interest to write these enthusiastic comments. I simply fall in love with this place! Allez-y cet endroit est fabuleux! To jest naprawdę magicznie mieśce!
