Absolutely wonderful place! Resort is better than photos and the staff are the best ever. Cannot fault anything about the place. The weather was not the best for a couple of days but still had a fabulous stay. Breakfast is excellent with amazing fresh fruit and plenty of other choice. Ate at the jetty restaurant a couple of times which was good. All in all a stunning and lovely place to stay. Thankyou to all at Pongwe Bay!!
Nothing!

Really nice breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, cereals, egg station etc. Friendly staff. Decent sized pool (about 18m long). Great location, right on the beach which was great for a long walk. "The Club" which is located at the end of the long boardwalk/pier has a very good restaurant, and you can also rent kayaks there and play pool. The room was large with a comfortable balcony.
The beers were quite expensive, so we went to a local bar a few minutes' walk along the beach.

Nothing - it was just perfect!

Great location on a small bay with a lovely beach front. I was upgraded on arrival. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Buffet breakfast was excellent and service at breakfast very good.
Also loved the bar/restaurant at the end of the jetty.
Loved the upgrade to a large room with excellent facilities and a large balcony, but I couldn’t really see the sea from my room. Soon got used to it and enjoyed seeing the village next door and the kids arriving at school over the road when entering and exiting my room.

The property setting is very attractive and the rooms surround the very nice pool. The pier and restaurant/bar over the water was an amazing place to end the day with drinks and watching the sunset. We had very good massage at the spa, reasonably priced for the quality. Food was good too!
Nothing negative to say! The setting is perfect, the grounds were well kept and the staff was very attentive.

Resort looks nice, paths are made of sand. The rooms are big and clean. Beds comfortable and have nets to protect against mosquitos. There's some free activities available. They offer broad range of tours around the island and those tours were very well arranged.
The resort is very prone to the tide. When we were there, there was no water in the bay (it's not at the actual pongwe beach), so we had to go to another town to enjoy the beach/sea. Also, guests don't get free beds at the beach, it costs 9USD instead of 10USD for non-guests. The food was very mediocre (and seemed not so fresh) and took too long to prepare.

The staff was extremely nice to all visitors. They helped you with everything you needed. From getting mosquito repellent to getting the internet credit on your phone, nothing was a problem.
The wifi was not everytime very good. There were no shops nearby.

- Staff is super kind, always available to help and full of great vibes;
- Food was way beyond our excpectations, wonderful;
- Location is very quite with not too many beach boys offering various services;
- Atmosphere and beatiful garden
- Water on the beach is very shallow duing low tide. However, new bridge that is bypassing the reef is under construction and will solve the problem
- Food portions could be 20% bigger

The location, atmosphere, food staff and overall the whole hotel was exceptional. Hotel staff was extremely profesional and friendly.Ideal for couples who want a romantic escape or relax after stone town.
Due to the eastern shore the tides here are very strong so you are not always able to swim in tge ocean. This is being compensated by the hotel by offering daily boat trips and a lovely pool. My only negativ experience here was that there was an issue with the hot water supply but overall I would deffinetly recomend the place.

Had to proactively remind them to clean our room

The weather was pleasant, the resort is very quiet..
The beach is not clean. The Beach front villas aren't well ventilated... Abit suffocating

The pool, garden and beach are very beautiful. Most of the rooms were very nice (one had a moldy smell but then they gave us a different one) and big.
The water from the tab and shower was salty.
It took long for the food to be ready.
The beds make noise when you move.

I really liked the resort's traditional style with the tiki huts, wooden furniture, and hammocks. The beach was really beautiful, but I was disappointed that we weren't able to swim. When the tide was out, we walked a long way and saw crabs, starfish, sea urchins, and many more fun creatures. When the tide was in, there was too much seaweed to enjoy the water. The pool, however, was nice and never very crowded. I highly recommend the buffets at the restaurant. Wonderful food and drinks and the staff is so polite and kind. There was even a couple of shows (music, gymnastics) after dinner on those nights. Very fun!
Not enough drinking water! Each guest got one small bottle of water a day, and then had to purchase additional water for $3 a bottle. Crazy!
The girl working in the spa was the sweetest, but she did not have the proper supplies or set up for manicure/pedicures - more like your child painting your nails for you. Not her fault, but it wasn't like a proper spa experience at all.

They were able to cater for my gluten free meals. Friendly staff, very helpful and helped us to organise our taxis and days out.

Everything was perfekt, the location, servis, and also the manager Carl.

We wanted a calm holiday to sit back and relax. This is perfect spot for this. Beach were mostly empty and it was clean. There was no party area in the hotel or near by, so you could just listen the ocean if you wanted to.
Be aware there is quite a strong tide that takes the ocean far from the beach. This allows you to walk near the reef and watch sea stars and fishes. Staff were very friendly.
The breakfast could offer some nuts, seeds and variety of breads. However, fresh fruits were always available.

I was last at this resort 7 years ago when it was smaller. It has become bigger by a considerable number of rooms added. The rooms are as exquisite as i remember them. Very spacious and with comfortable beds, a work desk and a beautiful lounge chair. And they are cleaned every day. The grounds are meticulously well looked after. The breakfast is usually a buffet with a considerable number of choices. Was happy to see one of the Masai chaps that is still working after all these years.
The resort has 5% surcharge when a debit card/credit card is used. The Tanzanian bank levies a charge on every transaction made. Instead of absorbing this bank levy as a big resort like most top tier hotels I have stayed in Matemwe and Jambiani do so on this island, this particular Pongwe bay resort passes the levy onto the customer – which I think is very greedy.
The restaurant prices are quite mad – a significant rise from how they were 7 years ago when I stayed for a week. Be prepared to pay London or Manhattan prices for a meal or even a $5 dollar beer that would cost 0.85 USD in an ordinary bar. I was so incensed paying for $5 milk shake, which was mediocre to say the least.
I have always found Pongwe to be so isolated as a location– far from a local trading centre where one can meet the locals and even eat local cuisines like it is in Matemwe and Jambiani. So to me the location doesn't cut it for me anymore.

The property is beautiful and there has clearly been a lot of thought into design and the layout of the place. The rooms are very comfortable and staff were so so friendly. The food and entertainment were also good. They provide water shoes and paddle boards to use in the ocean and beach which was a really nice option.
Whilst the food was a very good standard, there wasn’t a great range for vegetarians on the normal day to day menu. It was okay for a short stay but not enough for longer stays. The Swahili night buffet was very good for vegetarians though.

Picture perfect place, in a peaceful location. The staff is very nice and kind. Special thanks to Carlo, the manager :) who went beyond our expectations in his hospitality.
4.5
Pole pole. :) Quiet, relaxing place far from the busy beaches of Nungwi or Paje. Ideal for recharging your batteries. The staff is super! The manager, Carlo is true host, he always has a good story to share. We had a great discussion with Aston about the local life. In summary, we had one of our best vacation here.
The bay is shallow, so you cannot enjoy the ocean during low tide, but if you take a little walk on the beach to the north you can swim in the sea.

One of the best resorts I ever stayed, the location is great and food amazing as the owners are Italians. Even if the owner is an Juventus fan it was still friendly and nice to have a chat with, he really cares about customers.
Nothing to complain.

Good food, very kind people, nice local authentic atmosphere. Events are hold regularly for example with local dancers and musicians. Very recommended!
You can't swim in the sea (very low water)

Very nice pool and beach area, super big rooms with very good bathroom and well-functioning shower. we liked the big terrace and the sea view. Sunbeds are very comfy!
You have to register for dinner in advance (and it’s pricey) so we did not eat at the hotel. Pier in front of hotel is out of order at the moment so no swimming during low-tide. But our main concern - and really the reason why we would probably not come back despite the great facilities - is that this hotel really doesn’t have a vibe. You do not get a sense of family between the owners and the staff and the music they play (exact same playlist on two days) sounds more like Thailand than Africa. We felt more African and welcoming vibes in other hotels in Zanzibar, but that might just be us. :-)

Very nice garden and pool area, friendly stuff.
Restaurant prices are high.
