Lugar bonito, singular y acogedor.

nothing especially.
I booked a hotel in the city because it was convenient for dinner and sightseeing, but when I went there, it was a hotel in the middle of the desert. Therefore, it was very inconvenient to have to go to dinner by taxi. When I made a reservation through Booking.com, this hotel was posted in the town on the map posted by Booking.com. I think this is a problem with Booking.com. The hotel was in the middle of the desert, so it was the worst because the air conditioner stopped working. Also, on the last day, there was no water.

Bathroom…I understand that it was not possible to have it in the room. But it’s quality was really poor

Habib was amazing and took good care of us during the whole trip. The room was very clean and the food (both breakfast and dinner) was delicious, fresh and homemade. We felt like home and we really enjoyed the hospitality. The location was also stunning surrounded by palm trees and just 1.5 drive from the desert.

The staff were friendly and accommodating with serving us breakfast despite it being Ramadan. This is such a neat place to stay. Be sure to check out the guest book and photo album in the dining room. I will definitely bring family and friends here again!

Definitely recommend for a one night stay, different experience,It's hot outside during the day, but cool inside the room, and cold outside at night, but warm inside the room! amazing
Breakfast and dinner are delicious
There is no toilet in the room. It is very cold to go to the toilet at night. It is not recommended for younger children to stay, because it is very inconvenient for children at night 😂 My husband and I were tossed by 2 children!

As a troglodyte type guest house in Tijma about 4 kms from Matmata it is a good place to experience this type of accommodation. There are five guests rooms off a central (below ground level )courtyard each room with a separate detached bathroom. The rooms are clean, but obviously windowless, with dim lighting. Apart from the bed (comfy) and hanging space there was not a lot more - no chairs or tables in the room. I didn't get the feeling that the dining room was for communal use after meals - I may be wrong but you would not want people talking late into the night in the courtyard. Check in 17-00 to 19- 00 check out 07-00 to 09-00 - not a place where you are expected to linger. Because of the location It was good that both breakfast and dinner were provided. The food at both meals was very good in quality and quantity. The meals are communal which gives you have a chance to chat with the other guests. An early morning walk in the surrounding desert landscape, particularly with the golden light of the rising sun, reveals lots of similar houses and lovely desert scenery. Payment is cash only.
It would have been nice to have somewhere to sit in the room other than the bed.

The traditional troglodyte interior was very beautiful.
The dinner was perfect. Traditional Tunisian dishes were served: lamb with potatoes and spicy bellpepers, ojja and a tomato, onion and cucumber salad. Breakfast was also good, simple but with enough choices. We shared the table with the other guests which was quite pleasant.
The desert surrounding the hotel is beautiful and you can see the stars in the sky at night as well as light coming from other troglodyte homes scattered around.
In the daytime the interior is cooler than outside (mid september).
We went in the summer (mid september) and it was very hot inside the room at night. There is no air conditioning or ventilators, but the staff was very kind and let us borrow their ventilator for the night. Luckily we also brought a portable ventilator with us, so we slept comfortably.
The shower was also very hot. You could make a nice tea with it. It took about 20 minutes for it to become bearably hot. The guests that took a shower after us had a better temperature already. These are things to be aware of when booking a stay here during the hot summer months, it is the desert after all.

great experience staying in the maisons troglodytes - the caves
summer and no air con - the caves are cooler than you’d think but still quite warm when it has been 40 all day

Cool to sleep in natural caves. Excellent dinner and good breakfast.
It’s remote, but that’s where the caves are.

Nice, quirky place, different to usual accommodations.
Staff could have been a bit more accommodative and friendly. No toiletries (soap/shampoo) in the bathroom. Note - bathroom are not attached. Its a short walk, however every room has its own allocated bathroom.

This experience is exactly what you would be looking for if you choose a troglodyte style home. You are sleeping in a converted cave so don’t expect a 5-star hotel, but what you get is very comfortable and welcoming and a fun experience. If you like a bit of exploration in wild country it’s great to wander around the surrounding hills. We stayed just one night and left wishing we had booked for two.
Nothing at all, we have no complaints.

Authenticity, decor, food
Small trash bin in the room would have been helpful, a sign outside to help us find the location.
