About this cabin rental
Huge tri level, 4BR, 3BA, lodge style log home located in Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure with all the extras you could possibly imagine. NOTE: The pool checked in the amenities section is a community pool in the resort where this home is situated.
This home is nestled in the woods located at the end of a private drive, high atop a knoll with gorgeous views overlooking Lake Lure NC.
Once you enter the front door, you're immediately hit with the WOW factor. Not only will you know you've made the best vacation decision possible, but the home is unique and unlike anywhere else you may have stayed before. The light and bright open floor plan sucks you right in. Soaring vaulted ceilings give this cabin that massive feeling. The wall of windows overlooking the lake is impressive.
The main level features a tastefully decorated living room with wide plank wood floors, unique furnishings, and big comfortable leather sofa and chairs for enjoying the gas fireplace. The glass doors to the upper deck bring the outside in. Steps away is a formal dining area with a table that seats six plus breakfast bar seating. Enjoy views of the lake as you dine. Beside the dining area are doors to a screened porch with a small table for breakfast coffee. Leave the doors open and let the mountain breezes in. The full length upper deck is ideal for entertaining with room for your entire group. There's plenty of seating, and even an outdoor bar with lake views.
The main floor has two guest rooms, each with queen size beds. The main level guest bathroom is a stunning mix of stone, tile, and wood. Unique dual vanities, massive mirror framed in wood, and a tub with shower.
The upstairs loft is another completely separate living area, with comfortable leather sofa and chairs, television, and a walkway along the wall of windows to enjoy unobstructed views of Lake Lure. There's even a private office with mountain views off the loft in the event you need to do some work while on vacation.
The massive upper level Master Suite is a paradise in itself. It has a gas fireplace, king size bed, spectacular décor, and an impressive private master bathroom. The bathroom has dual vanities and a beautiful combination of tile and wood. Plus, enjoy a roomy tile and glass shower.
The lower level is a giant recreation and family room. Enjoy billiards on a full size pool table, or gather together in the sitting area. Doors from the rec room lead to a lower level full length covered deck, complete with a LAKE VIEW hot tub! To complete the lodge feeling of this spectacular home is a lower level bunk room that will bring back childhood memories. It has three bunk beds, perfect for making new memories of your own.
The home is located at the end of the road in a private location, with plenty of parking. It's located in Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure, so you will have the ability to use all available Resort amenities. There's simply nothing else like this home in Lake Lure.
NC VACATION RENTAL STANDARDS
First, be aware that the North Carolina Vacation Rental Act provides you with certain rights and protections. Second, we would like to make you aware of a few local regulations designed to promote a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY LIMITS: The maximum occupancy limit for this home is 10 persons. You must provide us with the number of people and vehicles in your group. Violation of occupancy rules are grounds for immediate eviction with no refund, and fees will be charged to your credit card to cover any damages.
DESIGNATED PARKING: Vehicles must be parked only in designated areas on the vacation rental property. Parking in the roadway blocking the flow of traffic and parking on neighbor's property without permission are prohibited. Low clearance vehicles are not advised due to uneven driveways. There is parking for 3-4 vehicles at this property. No RV's trailers, campers, or oversized vehicles of any kind.
ACCESS: You will receive directions and access information once we have received a signed rental agreement securing reservation (this agreement will be sent to you for electronic signature) you will also need to provide a copy of your government issued ID to our company with current mailing address and contact information along with vehicle registration of each vehicle that will be at the home during your stay. You will be emailed check-in instructions 24 hours prior to arrival provided you have signed your electronic rental agreement and sent in a copy of your photo ID and vehicle information. If you go to a property prior to approval from our office before check in time you will be accessed an early check-in fee $50.
TRASH DISPOSAL: All household waste & trash must be placed in receptacles considered to be animal proof (e.g., durable with secured lids) when available unless advised otherwise due to increased bear activity. Please place all garbage in black trash bags and call the office prior to 3pm for pick up of 2 or more bags.
🐻***Please be aware that you'll be in "bear country" with potential wildlife encounters. For everyone's safety, kindly refrain from leaving food outside, always keep the bear-proof trash bin locked, and ensure your little ones and furry friends are supervised outdoors. If you're not comfortable with our bear neighbors, sorry this might not be the best fit for you.
MINIMUM AGE: You must be at least 25 years of age to reserve a rental property and sign this lease and must also be a guest at the property during the entire term of the stay. You must present a valid government ID at time of check in. If you are not 25, you will NOT be allowed to check in and no refund will be provided.
NO HOUSE PARTIES: We do not accept reservations from sororities, fraternities, spring-break parties, bachelor / bachelorette / wedding parties, graduation parties, or ANY similar groups unless approved at time of reservation. Mr.Lake Lure Vacation Rentals works very closely with local law enforcement to patrol our rental homes, and report to us any occupancy violations. Any violation of this rule mandates you immediately vacate home without refund, regardless of the remaining duration of your reservation.
FIRE PROTECTION FOR YOUR SAFETY: Fire Extinguisher and Evacuation Plan -This home is equipped with working fire extinguishers and a posted evacuation plan. Removing any of these from their designated location is prohibited. Avoid storing items not to block hallways, doorways, steps, entrances and exits. Small Outdoor Fires - When an area burning ban is in effect, bonfires are prohibited. Contact your rental home's property manager for information on any burning bans. Outdoor fires are only permitted in a place and manner approved by the Fire Chief.
LAKE ACTIVITIES: Lake water levels cannot be guaranteed. The Town of Lake Lure may lower the lake below full pond seasonally for dam repairs, sewer upkeep, silt removal, and to allow homeowners the ability to make repairs to docks and seawalls. Periodic lowering might also happen because of flood warnings, heavy rain, or other emergencies observed by the Town. Lake Lure is a man-made lake that is drawn down 12 feet each winter season for maintenance. This will impact shorelines and lake usage. Water will be back up to normal levels in mid-April. In all these circumstances, the Town of Lake Lure reserves the right to limit use of boats, kayaks, canoes, or other watercraft at any time as it deems necessary. SWIMMING: Do not swim farther than 50 feet from shore unless accompanied by an observer in a boat.
FISHING: A North Carolina fishing license is required, and all state fishing regulations apply.
BOATING: If a boat is provided with this rental home, please ask for and review the pamphlet entitled “Lake Regulations & Map”. If you wish to utilize your own boat on the lake, a permit is required and can be obtained at Town Hall or at the town marina.
PERSONAL CONDUCT: Trespassing - Venturing onto a neighboring dock or pier, boat house or property without the owner's permission is prohibited.
🚭NO SMOKING: Smoking, Vaping and Electronic cigarettes are prohibited in all our vacation rental homes. You will be assessed an additional cleaning fee if it is discovered you have been smoking and/or vaping in the home of $500. We ask that all smokers stay a minimum of 10 ft from any open window or door, do not stand near open doors or windows allowing smoke to enter the home while smoking on property. Please make sure butts and ashes are not left behind. Discard the butts and ashes in the outside garbage. Do not throw butts on the ground (including the fire pit) or bring them into the home. If there is any tobacco smell in the home after your departure, there will be a minimum $500 charge. Oil lamps and incense are not permitted due to the long-lasting odor. If these policies are violated, there will be a charge for excessive cleaning.
NOISE: Unreasonably loud noise is prohibited throughout the Town. Please observe quiet hours after 10 p.m. and be aware that sound carries very far over a still lake.
UNRULY BEHAVIOR: Behavior deemed disorderly and causing a disturbance to the public is prohibited. These regulations will be strictly enforced.
SECURITY CAMERA LOCATIONS: Please be advised our homes have forward facing entry area security cameras. We monitor for non-reported pets, over occupancy and number of vehicles.
PETS/ANIMALS: PETS/ANIMALS are NOT ALLOWED in this home. If you are found to be in violation of this rule you will be required to vacate the property and forfeit the remainder of your stay. You will also be assessed a fine of $500 for the violation. No refunds will be given! Service animals must be registered with the office prior to arrival.
RENTAL AGREEMENT AND TOTAL BALANCE: You will be required to sign a vacation rental agreement before your reservation is secured. Failure to sign rental agreement with-in 72 hours of booking, will result in cancellation of reservation and forfeiture of deposit. Any monies received by Mr Lake Lure Vacation Rentals for occupancy of vacation property indicated the acceptance of the terms of our vacation rental agreement in full. Your total amount listed on the Mr Lake Lure® Vacation Rental Agreement may be different from the amount paid to the 3rd party site you book through. All third-party sites charge differing amounts as service fees to guests for using their services. We have no control over those fees and do not collect them.
Please read your vacation rental agreement carefully before you begin your vacation. All policies are strictly enforced. It is the responsibility of all guests and members of their party to be familiar with all policies pertaining to rental.
ALL PROPERTIES OFFER AN INITIAL SUPPLY OF THE FOLLOWING AMENITIES:
Including, but not limited to: bed linens and bath towels (2 bath towels and 2 washcloths per Guest, 2 hand towels per bathroom sink), dishwasher detergent (2 loads) and dishwashing soap, new sponge, laundry detergent (2 loads), hand soap, (1 set per bathroom sink, including hotel size: 1 bar of soap, 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner and 1 lotion), paper towels (1 roll), toilet paper (2 rolls per bathroom), and garbage bags (2 kitchen bags, plus 2 black bags). If you don't feel this will be adequate for your stay, you will want to stop and pick up more on your way. All properties provide fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes, including coffee makers as well as some cooking utensils. Locked pantries and closets are reserved for the use of the Property Owner and are not accessible to Guest. Rearranging furniture or removing any items from the Property is prohibited.

🏡 Our cabins are protected by professional pest control, and we maintain additional services to help protect against mosquitos and Carpenter bees. That said, it is impossible for us to guarantee you won't see bugs. Depending on the time of year, it is likley you would see some bugs in any cabin in this region; this is an issue that impacts all cabins universally. If you do see bugs, please let us know so that we can schedule additional service. Also, please know that this is not a reflection of our commitment to quality, but rather a reality of renting a cabin in the area.
*** Lake Lure will be undergoing a drawdown starting January 1st, through the first quarter (March 31st). The lake will begin to be lowered by approximately 1 foot per day until 12 feet has been reached. Infrastructure maintenance, dredging, and dam projects will be expedited during this time frame. These efforts by the Town of Lake Lure may affect access to the lake and restrict any lake usage. The lake will likely be back up to normal levels by mid to late April. No personal watercraft will be allowed on the lake during this time. While we understand this is an inconvenience, this does allow you to enjoy the full beauty of Lake Lure in the fall and holiday season. We had a wonderful time visiting Bear’s Lair for a weekend cycling in the area. The home was clean and beds were comfortable for all in our group.

Bear's Lair cabin at Lake Lure was just lovely! It had amazing views of the Lake and Smokey Mountains up close! Cabin was very comfortable and easy access to Lake Lure and other attractions. My family and I enjoyed shooting pool, playing games, cooking and having the quiet time to reconnect with each other.

The house was amazing! Wonderful views, plenty of room, and everything we needed. We could put the babies to bed and have game night or stargaze from the hot tub. We had 4 generations, from 7 months to two 83-year olds, and everyone LOVED it!
Staying on the Rumbling Bald resort property was fantastic. We went on a lake tour and rented a pontoon through the resort for much less than the Lake Lure marina. The pools and beach area meant that there was always something to do. I'd do it again for sure!
The management staff at Mr. Lake Lure was very helpful and responsive, and had the house spic and span clean. I can't say enough great things about our stay!

Our group of seven had a great week at Bear’s Lair. The views from the cabin were beautiful and we enjoyed the amenities of Rumbling Bald, especially the pool. The beds were all comfortable and the cabin had enough room for everyone to have some space when needed. Within a 15-45 minute drive (mostly due to curvy mountain roads) we found much to do including visits to Asheville, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock, horseback riding, and white water kayaking. The only issues we experienced were related to cleaning/upkeep; a leaking dishwasher and moldy cutting boards and unclean kitchen items. I did contact the rental company and they were quick to respond and offered to send someone out with new items. Overall our group had a great week and many memories were made!

Views are wonderful but did not make up for:
1. Leaking sink in master bathroom upon arrival
2. No wifi at all....even after reporting the problem several times.
3. 1 bed was dirty...discovered after my son slept in it.
4. Dirty wine glasses in the hanging rack
5. Cheap and insufficient supplies for a family of 6
6. Downstairs TV did not work...we reported and nothing was done.
7. No extra throw blankets
8. Dirty utensils left next to stove
9. A few Christmas touches would have been nice.

Overall we loved our stay. There were a few bugs in one of the upstairs bedrooms, and an electrician showed up unexpectedly while we were in town, but otherwise we loved our stay and would definitely come back. Perfect setting for a relaxing family vacay!

From the minute we walked into the house it was disappointing. The sliding glass doors that should be providing a clear view of the mountains are filthy and 1 of the panels has a broken seal, the glass panel needs to be replaced. The house is dark which hides the considerable amount of dust especially under the couches and the beds. The dishwasher leaked and took 221 minutes to run one cycle. The kitchen is lacking pots and pans to cook. If you have ever tried to cook eggs in a stainless steel pot you know it is virtually impossible. The bed comforters are not being washed after each visit which considering what we have all gone through the last 2 years is appalling. There were no throw blankets to use, and the 2 bed blankets found in the closet have not been washed any time recently. The ice maker doesn’t work and the Keurig didn’t work. While the property manager was quick to respond and replace the coffee maker it shouldn’t have been necessary. The shower upstairs was disgusting, with hair on the walls and the door looks like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. Lastly, we couldn’t watch TV as a family because the only TV that worked and was large enough to view was in the upstairs loft. With the little kids sleeping in the office and the master bedroom there was no opportunity to watch TV at night. The listing says the TV in the basement was capable of streaming but there were no remotes and the TV was an old box unit with a VCR and DVD player enclosed….time for a new TV! The area is lovely but overall quite the disappointing rental. The Owners need to pay closer attention room to their home.

The house was fantastic! It could’ve used a few more cooking utensils. It rained a lot so we stayed in. There was no Internet and no phone service. Management did try to get the Internet working but because of that we had to leave a day early. Overall it was a fantastic house and we will stay here again! Thank you for the hospitality!

Roomy cabin for families
Beautiful views from deck, plenty of space. Everything we were looking for and needed this cabin had. Kitchen could be more updated. We enjoyed the hot tub every day. Just needs a new cover. Overall a wonderful experience!

Beautiful Location
We had a wonderful time at the property, the view was fantastic and there was plenty of space to spread out! The cabin itself was nice but older than others we've stayed in. The hot tub cover was in rough shape and several lightbulbs were out (including the fridge and freezer) but the rental company said they could not be replaced because they didn't have the right bulb or they were hardwired.
All in all, a great trip with plenty of things for everyone to enjoy! I cannot say enough good things about the view and the beds were comfortable, too.

Lake Lure - Bears Lair
Renting this property was such an amazing experience. We had such an amazon time, the views were breath taking. Easy access to the pools, lake, and beach. Enjoying the hot tub at night was a great experience to watching the stars. Night time was playing pool or boards games and listening to music. Definitely want to return but also buy my own place. I didn’t want to leave this place!

The view was breathtaking! The home is large enough for 5 adults and 4 children with room to spare!
An updated kitchen and more high top seating outside would be my only suggestions!

Truly the Bears Lair!!
With 3 levels, this setting worked very well for our weekend retreat!
We did have a Black Bear visit the ground level deck as it tried to get trash out of the can. It came back a 2nd time. All of the guys were excited over the experience as we came out to chase it away, took a picture or 2 & watched it w/ flashlights ease down the hill.

UNSANITARY
BEWARE!! UNSANITARY!! We looked forward to family vacation all to be thoroughly disgusted by what we encountered. We caught Covid-19 because of the unsanitary conditions. Not what you would expect when we spent several thousands of dollars to rent a cabin for a week.
Upon the first family member’s arrival he noticed that several things were not clean. As he went to take a shower, he found someone’s USED Q-tip inside the shower. In the daylight we realized just how dirty everything was. There were layers of thick dust and pet hair on the furniture. Our toddler found a French fry in the living room which none of us had eaten anything there yet. Soon after, the toddler found dead bugs, and candy wrappers on the carpet.
As we began setting the table for breakfast, we found that the silverware drawer had food and crumbs inside of it. The silverware, plates, glasses, and pans ALL had to be washed before we could use them as they appeared as though they had only been rinsed and placed inside of the cupboard. Some of the pans would not come clean as they were rusted through and should be thrown away. The comforters and blankets on the beds were NOT clean. One of the blankets smelled like feces. There were other people’s hair ties, and candy wrappers under the beds and cushions, and a hairbrush was found under a chair in the living room along with a thick layer of dust that made it apparent that the place had not been cleaned for a very long time.
We called to report the filth to the management office and the Manager, Bobbi sent two teenagers to mop the floors and bring us clean blankets. They arrived with a mop and bucket but no cleaning chemicals, just water and a bucket! Even after they left the floors were STILL filthy. Our socks immediately turned dirty. The jacuzzi left a sticky film on us which grossed us out and we did not use it again. The “no pets allowed policy” is obviously not enforced as there was pet hair all over along with a dog cage upstairs!?
Christmas day we came down with symptoms of Covid-19 and were later diagnosed as Positive. We reported this to the Mr. Lake Lure Property Management Office however Management refused to take our calls. Finally, after the 8th call, we spoke with Manager/Owner Greg Balk. We were flabbergasted at how condescending he spoke to us. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. At one point he even laughed at us. For the sake of others, we will be reporting this to CDC, BBB and Health Department.

Great Getaway
View was amazing! The house was very comfortable and relaxing. The fireplace was so cozy too! The only issue we had was the toilets didn’t flush well. Had to hold the handle down a long time for it to flush.

This is a awesome cabin with spectacular views. The only thing missing was a can opener. We felt at home and would definitely rent again.

Bears Lair Review
The Bears Lair is an amazing mountain cabin with a great view. Very spacious with a full kitchen and lots of amenities. The hot tub, pool table, and wrap around balconies were our favorite! I would highly recommend this rental to anyone.

The day before our check in hurricane zeta came thru knocking out power for nearly the entire area. The management company was very prompt to keep us updated about the power situation. On the day of check in power was still out at the cabin but was steadily coming back up in the area so we decided to go with it and see if power came back.
The house is amazing with spectacular views of bald mountain and lake lure with plenty of room for everybody and everything you need there as well as very clean.
We never got power back that night and waited till 3 the following afternoon Mr.Lake Lure vacations was more then willing to move us to another property and refund us the first night.
All together given the circumstances it was a wonderful trip and the management went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of! We will be back next year

Lovely Home!
Lovely home in a beautiful community. We spent most of our time spent on the deck enjoy the fall colors and evenings in the hot tub. Bedrooms were very comfortable. Thank you for your hospitality!

Great property, definitely recommend.
This is a great clean property, better than what you see in the pictures. Kitchen appliances could be upgraded but not a deal breaker. Property management could do a better job, it seems there is an internal communication issue. Overall we enjoyed our stay and I would recommend this property to anyone.

Beautiful View
We had such a great visit to the Bear's Lair! The views of the lake and surrounding area were beautiful. We really enjoyed the hot tub after a full day of hiking at Chimney Rock. We also rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon on the lake. The house has the rustic charm of a mountain house with plenty of space for everyone. It was very convenient to have access to Rumbling Bald resort for dinner, as well. We would definitely stay here again.

We brought two families of four and had more than enough space! Great location 5 minutes from the pool and golf course at Rumbling Bald. Only suggestion would be to update the appliances but that would definitely not prevent us from coming back. Many thanks!
