Penguin sits between Ulverstone and Burnie (about 15 minute drive either way) and is just a half hour drive on Bass Highway from Devonport where the Spirit of Tasmania ferry comes in twice a day. We are located in NW Tasmania that has some of the most fertile and beautiful countryside in the world. NW Tasmania has some of the best roads and driving conditions you will ever have the joy of driving on and it offers superb views of country and sea all the way down the coastal route to Burnie and then to Stanley and Port Arthur and Edge of the World where you can look out at the Southern Ocean. The Tarkine Drive is a must if you are staying for more than a day. Our little town has two IGA stores, about 5 cafes and bakeries, a bank, a gallery (just opened), a Pharmacy, two Vets, a Newsagent, a Barber shop, a Service Station and a number of curiosity shops. If you want more choice, the drive up the coast to Ulverstone is one of the most beautiful coastal drives you will find anywhere.
