Établissement très propre, très typique du style japonais. Les rideaux autour du lit offrent une intimité. Le personnel est très aimable.
Peu de place pour stocker ses affaires dans le dortoir.

Lovely traditional house not far from the golden pavilion, the Imperial palace, etc.
Very attentive owner, just a lovely feel all around.

We liked everything about our stay at Itoya Guest House. This was our favorite place to stay during our three week trip in Japan. It was clean, tidy, big and had everything needed and a little more!
Nothing to say. We like everything! Best place to stay in Kyoto!

This was my third stay at this guesthouse since before the pandemic. It can easily accessed by buses from Kyoto station. The house is a very traditional, but a comfortable one. The owner, Kobayashi-san was very helpful. The guest house is very clean and tidy, with nice neighborhood. The stairs to upper-bed in female dormitory was very wide and safe. It was nice, and does feel like staying at a lower-bed. Thank you so much!
PS: There is a delicious sushi place next to the house which opens up to 11 pm :).

Great night sleep. Great, interesting shared building. Loved the furniture, layout and steep little staircase was like climbing up a little wall which I loved and the staff was very helpful with baggage etc and were very pleasant
There were rules for footwear and where to eat (ie, no food in room etc) but this kind of added to the traditional feel of the place and taught us how to treat such buildings, so I would recommend it. The building felt rich in history and ceremony with chilled out hostel vibes too

The guesthouse satisfied my imagination of staying at a traditional styled house while in Kyoto! The place was well managed and comfortable even though the bathrooms were shared.
We were given the private room on the 2nd floor, which could be difficult for some to climb the very narrow stairs and also a bit scary if you have to move in and out with a suitcase. The owner very kindly helped us bring our luggage directly to the 2nd floor!

Nice common room with traditional tatami design. Sound isolation is better than I thought. Nice place if you would like to experience living in traditional Japanese House. Shops around is quite interesting.
Toilet is too small and my leg can touch the door. There are many doors and corridors, as part of the house is outdoor area and without roof. You need to put on the wooden sandals if you would like to go to other places like toilet, shower rooms and kitchen. Not very convenient living experience.

The vibe, the shared space, the kotatsu in the cold weather~
Toilets were downstairs, so it was a little hard specialy if you wanna go in the middle of the night.

The staff was very nice and helpful. They have good bikes too. The place is spotless. There are two common area that you can freely use.
It does not seem far from the city center but it is and the public transportations are not very optimized in Kyoto. Keep that in mind when picking this place.
Also, the WIFI didn't work correctly after 9pm when we were several people staying at the hostel.

Its not only a guest house but also a coffee shop with a huge library of book. They also sell some goodies like postcard, Tshirt, tote bag etc. The host is nice, supportive and hospital. He even said hi to me in my mother language when we first met. Room for two is standard traditional Japan room and Im so happy to experience that. Bike renting fee is also very reasonable.
The toilet and bathroom is outside and it’s quite cold when we must go there in late night or early morning.

Host is very friendly and place is very clean.

the owner was super welcoming and spoke good english! also met a lot of cool people here :)
the walk to the bathroom/toilets are open air, so a little cold for winter

friendly and informative staff, shower room and toilet separated from the dorm making you feel private, staff can communicate in English
at night, it maybe a little bit dark making it’s hard to go to toilet sometimes.

Host is super friendy and helpful. Quiet neighborhood, large supermarkets as well as small convenience stores close by. Very clean and beautifully decorated. Good wifi connection. Towels were provided.
It's an old traditional building, so walls are thin and in winter it really get's cold. I visited in december and the heating was pretty much at it's limit. Toilet, showers and kitchen are outdoors, heating-wise. They are covered with a roof but you still gotta wear your jacket to go there, which was a little uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, unlike tokyo and osaka kyoto is a "bus city" so it takes significantly longer to get from A to B. The busstop is right around the corner but the next underground stop is 20 min footwalk distance.

The place itself, traditional Japanese house. The host was very nice and welcoming.
The toilet and the bathroom are outside of the house, so it may be cold at night.

A lovely little hostel. Has quite a traditional vibe to it. I stayed twice during my visit to Japan. The beds and comfy and the dorm wasn't too loud. A few places to eat nearby and good location for using buses.
There are very steep stairs up to the dorm so couldn't be difficult with a suitcase or very big bag.
4.4
The kotatsu was one of the best things about this place. Commuting to and fro was also smooth as the bus stops are within walking distance, with the closest ones being less than 100m from the hostel.
I think it'd be better if each of the toilets has bidet availability info.
