Incredible property and great customer service !

The hotel is very small, as I understand it, no more than 6 rooms. so you are guaranteed to be calm. The museum where you can buy a ticket to the historical part of the city is 2 minutes on foot.
I prefer the breakfast buffet, it allows me to put on my plate only what suits me and not throw away what I don't eat. In addition, I did not get enough vegetables for breakfast and did not get greens at all. And the service was long for me as I was in a hurry. These are not significant disadvantages, a serious disadvantage is the condition of the wallpaper in the rooms. They were stained and one painting was missing, a nail was sticking out on the wall. Water was dripping from the air conditioner onto the wooden table, it should be infused. The hotel has no activities at all, no spa, no gym, no yoga. Aggressive monkeys stuck to us right behind the hotel.

The old colonial building is a perfect hideaway to the hectic city and great to relax after sightseeing. The pool is small but integrated in the garden with a tree overarching it.
We noticed on the 2nd day that we had booked halfboard (for 1 of the 2 rooms) and were proactively reminded about it. The dinner was extraordinary with a nice presentation of high quality food.
Room booking was cumbersome and it took us many efforts to be able to book 2 rooms for us and our 2 teenagers.

The hotel is ideally located; lake-side, right next to the Antiquities Museum and Visitor Centre and close but not in the town.
in addition to it’s prime location the hotel has excellent facilities including a very pleasant restaurant, anti-room, small but nice pool and terrace for relaxing. The room we had was spacious, comfortably equipped and with the excellent bathroom. There was plenty of hot eater if required. Aside from these plus points the staff were pleasant and helpful, the food excellent and cost reasonable. The hotel provided an excellent stay.

The location is very good. It's close to the Museum where you can buy the ancient city ticket easily. It really saved our time

We have been there in the hotel in December 2019 first and it was not a question that we will return to the Ekho Lake House once again. We spent five days there and among them two at the Queen Elizabeth II Royal Suite following we received a nice upgrade from the staff. The best hotel in Polonnaruwa, near to the archeological sites and the lake view is fantastic. The staff is outstanding, thanks once again for your hard work.

Small and well run hotel, very friendly team and amazing location/view of the lake!
Food really tasty (and an excellent Sri Lankan curry!) We ended up staying an extra night over Christmas and even had a visit from Father Christmas (complete with sunglasses!) and received a delicious Christmas cake! Thanks again for looking after us so well.
Nothing to not like

The location and setting is beautiful, staff went above and beyond
Would have loved a Sri Lankan breakfast! Was only offered western (it was still delicious)

Hotel location was perfect, Polonnaruwa museum was just nearby. You can also watch beautiful sunset overlooking the reservoir just by the pool side.

Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room. The staff were friendly.
The rooms are old and not well cared for. They were dirty. VERY OVERPRICED for what was offered.

Excellent location close to the ruins. Lovely view across the lake and the pool offers a great way to refresh oneself after a safari. The Sri Lankan food in the restraint was super tasty.

The location is beautiful. Food is delicious!
Our room was not cleaned. The bathroom was not cleaned either. There was hair in the bathing area. Somebody put trash in the laundry bin and it was not cleaned. Bed sheets were wrinkled also I found a human hair in the sheets. I had to call the reception and ask to clean the laundry bin and also asked to change sheets as well.

We had an amazing experience here. We stayed in the Royal suite, it was unforgettable - all the details, aesthetics and facilities were amazing, the private garden area and hot tub were our favorite. The service was exceptional and the communal restaurant and pool were both excellent. It also has a perfect location.

Ekho Lake House is absolutely stunning. A colonial villa perfectly located just across the street from the Ancient City of Polonaruwa. Food is top notch, the rooms and views and views of the lake are fantastic.
The only downsides were:
1) the restaurant is closed for renovation. It would have been nice to know this in advance. However, the staff served an excellent three course meal to our room, so ok.
2) they have a staff member with a BB gun to shoot at the monkeys. To be fair, the monkeys are everywhere and I understand they can steal your food, bags, etc. However it was very unsettling to have a man with a gun hanging outside your room.

We only stayed one night at the property to visit nearby historical sites.
The property is overlooking a lake with a garden in front and small swimming pool overlooking the lake. There are steps down to the lake, parts of which you can swim in. If you walk just behind the property there are interesting historical sites; which you don't need a ticket for.
The rooms are tastefully decorated with a sitting out area overlooking the lake, view is amazing. Apparently Queen Elizabeth stayed at the property in the 1950s.
Breakfast and evening meal was good with a nice view of lake. Helpful, friendly staff.
Nothing really, however word of warning there are quite a lot of monkeys about so keep your door shut and locked so they don't get in.

Location is superb. Hotel is great but it could use a bit better maintanance. Breakfast was ok. Staff was very nice. They arranged the bicycles for us to go and explore the Polonnaruwa. Pool was great too.
It could be a bit cleaner

..Lovely lake view. Nice outside seating. Good waiter service. Nice room. Great ruins just outside hotel part of ancient Polonnaruwa....no charge for those and some of best. Nice small infinity pool
Food not that good a la carte. Room access odd ...through dining room. Bedside sockets and lamps not working.
6.0 / 10.0
Amazing views from the pool. wonderful sunset.
The staff (managers) were very slow and close to being unkind. Especially compared to the other hotels in Sri Lanka.
10.0 / 10.0
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. They tell you to feel like home, but it is even better. Pool with fantastic view, good food, nice and big rooms.
Windows and glass doors need a bit cleaning.
