Fantastic location, great nightly activities, loved the beachfront restaurant

They have such a nice Bar with really great food and some nice craft beer.
3.5 / 5.0
The shared room was very nice, clean and comfortable.
The rooms were on the opposite site of the road from the rest of the property, which you had do cross during the night as well. The food and drinks at the restaurant/bar were EXTREMELY expensive. Lastly, the “laundry service” was non existent, instead we were recommended to go to the nearest laundry. It was VERY expensive and the laundry service ruined my graphic t-shirt. VERY DISSAPOINTING!

The staff members were very nice!. It was nice and clean.
The shared bathrooms were in a different roofing site not on the building where the rooms are.

They had a lot of great events - music in the evenings, dance, etc.
The guest policy. I was never told that guests from outside were not allowed at all after 10pm. A friend came from across town to be turned away the security guard. Another night I had a love connection during a public party and my guest was not allowed to come to my room. I mean, I get it that security is a worry, but honestly, this felt worse than summer camp, not a hotel where I'm paying $200+/night. Of anywhere I have ever stayed in the world, this hotel managed guests and security the worst I have ever experienced.

The nature, the ocean and the river are amazing.
Very Loud music in the restaurant from 7am until 9pm. Admin staff are excessively friendly, like demanding attention.

The girl at the front desk was so kind.
The bathroom was covered in black mold and I was eaten alive by bugs in my bed. I have welts all over my legs. Including welts that became blisters and itched SO badly. I had to leave at 5am and didn't sleep at all dut to the bugs.

It’s really close to the main beach in Puerto Viejo. They had good activities available and a good workout space that you can use at any time.
The staff were super nice and helpful. The rooms are nice, well set up as Selina’s always are.
It wasn’t the most social hostel. I found it harder to meet people here. The food and drinks from the bar are quite expensive. And it’s a 10 min walk out of town, absolutely fine in the day, but you may not be comfortable with it at night if you’re a single woman.

We stayed there for 2 nights and met so many cool people. The room was good. We got tattoos in the tattoo studio in the hostel, they were so nice and the tattoos turned out perfect. Also they were very helpful to book a shuttle.

Nice chilling area and close to the beach. The room was spacious and clean
High prices for hostel food and not such a we'll equiped kitchen. We expected a bigger pool based on the pictures.

I loved that it was right on the ocean in what felt like a jungle. Though you couldn’t swim it was extremely peaceful to listen to the birds and monkeys in the morning. In the evening there was always a group activity like karaoke, salsa dancing, or live music. Staff was super friendly and laid back. The 10 bed dorm was across the street so if I wanted to go to bed early it was away from the bar/music area and lobby.
Be aware it is outside of town so after dark it isn’t advised to walk the lone road by yourself. That meant eating dinner at the hostel every night, and while the food was delicious and staff friendly, it’s a tad expensive and boring. The bathrooms for the larger dorms/tipis are outside and they tended to get dirty pretty quickly, but the staff was quick to clean it at least once a day.

The site was nice and the bar leading to the beach was nice.
Welcome drinks activity by the fire was good
Quite a small location for selina, and far from the centre. Also really expensive for what it is.
They have a good photographer to demonstrate the pool area... 😉

Good location between main town and Playa Cocles.
Overpriced hostel, no hot water in private double room which the reception staff knew was an issue they just hadn’t got fixed. Poorly equipped shared kitchen, no lighter fluid to ignite hob, missing plates and mugs. Despite being guests, Selina offered more expensive yoga classes and bike hire than anywhere else in town! The bar/restaurant was a nice vibe but way too pricey!

It was close to the beach and there were lots of animals around.
The Tipi rooms were quite small and the facilites inside could have been improved a bit.

nothing
Diego, the manager, is not a nice person. He pretends to help you with everything but when you ask where the bus station is to go to San Jose by bus he refuses to help you because he wants to sell you the shuttle which is very expensive. Swimming pool is dated, bad mattresses and wifi in the room. The shared kitchen is poorly maintained. There weren't even pans to cook pasta.

The Beachfront property is a typical hostel with a nice, small pool, regular activities, bikes for hire etc. It's located just outside of Puerto Viejo so you get less noise from the town while still being within walking distance.
There was an issue with our booking which meant we were put in a different room. There was a problem with the hot water in our en suite which meant we didn't have hot water for 3 days. We tried the communal showers but they were cold too (apparently a separate problem). We asked for a partial refund because of this but the reception staff weren't able to confirm whether they could offer this, how much, or when this would be done.
On 2 of the nights there was loud music from the bar which continued until late. If you're wanting to get a good night's sleep request a room over the road and take ear plugs.
We also hired bikes for $10 but my tyres were flat and they only have reverse breaking. I'd recommend hiring a bike with proper breaks and gears from a specialist shop.
Reception staff were quite dismissive of our complaints and just said "is a hostel, that's what you should expect".

Great hotel/hostel with good sized private rooms. Hotel is in a great location with good facilities.
Only slight negative was our shower had no hot water, not too much of any issue though.
1.5 / 5.0
it had a pool
and only one guy at the reception had a good service
and the salsa teacher was awesome
the staff was not very nice
the A/C was not working well and we paid a lot for a private family room
no activities compared to other Selina hostels I have visited before
no facilities to pass the time, I have seen Salina hostels with pool table movies room and etc.. but there was nothing. pretty boring and not worth the money, also at the restaurant we ordered a chicken burger and the chicken was a bit hard to chew which I never had before.

This was our second and last Selina-stay during our vacation in Costa Rica. The location was really good: close by the center of Puerto Viejo, the sea and the beach was literally in the backyard of the hostel so you could walk to it in no time.
They’ve created a cosy vibe and they did their best to create an atmosphere where you can connect with other travelers. The staff arrange activities and entertainment-evenings so there is a lot to do in the Selina if you want. The main area was good too! The pool was in the center and was surrounded with the bar, comfy chairs and hammocks. There was a lot of space to hang out and chill. The restaurant had a very varied menu (typical Costa Rican food but also the typical Western food) and what we ate was tasteful (not included in the prices of your stay!).
Also, there is a common kitchen where you can choose to cook for yourself. At the time we were there, the kitchen was a bit nasty and some equipment wasn’t there. It depends on the cleanness of the other travelers who uses the kitchen but maybe the staff could make an effort to keep the kitchen clean too.
Little side note: we loved to see the staff doing their best to create some fun and entertaining evenings but our room was in the main-building next to the common area so we heard every little noise. The music and the sounds of other travelers during the late evenings (and sometimes the nights too) gave us not that much sleep.
Overall a good place to stay but I think, now we can compare with our other accommodations, we aren’t that much “blown away” with the whole “Selina-hostel-vibes”.

I liked the pool and the wide variety of activities offered, if you are willing to pay. They had some free activities (karaoke night, games night), but for everything else you need to pay (yoga, bike, surf board, etc.). A/C in the 12-dorm room was working well. Really close to Cocles beach. They look like they have a nice co-work space where you can close curtains, so less distractions for workers.
Strongly NOT recommend. I spent 4 days in Wolaba hostel first, then 2 nights in Selina. I was quick to go back to Wolaba for my remaining 3 nights. Filthy kitchen when I arrived. Felt disgusted to cook there. I know they have a restaurant, so no incentive for them to have us cook, but a bare minimum of cleanliness is expected. Restaurant is expensive (4$ beer when the cornerstone is like 3 mins away by walking...). Rented a bike for 3 dollars more than in town, the seat was loose the whole time I used it I spent two nights, two showers with ONLY cold water. It's a crowded place, so I guess more chances of unclean kitchen and cold water, but still. By paying more than other hostels, I expected better. The shared dorms are on the "wrong side" of the street, where it is clearly not as fancy as the pictures
