Nestled in the trees and featuring fantastically large windows, Wald Haus is a nature lover's haven. Spring, summer and fall enjoy cool evenings relaxing or grilling on the deck. Winter will find families dining and unwinding by the fireplace. Wald Haus offers a full kitchen with lots of extras to make meal preparation an easy event. Enjoy cable TV or watch a DVD in either of the family rooms. Free WIFI is included with every rental. Hikers and mountain bikers will love the location and nearby access to Dolly Sods. Get away from it all and still have the convenience of home with an escape to Wald Haus. This home is pet friendly. Winter access to Wald Haus will require 4-wheel drive.

The house was clean and comfortable. Nestled in the woods, while there are other houses nearby, you cannot see them and mostly you don't hear them either. It is not far from Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Senaca Rocks and so it is great for the hiker. We also enjoyed the fourth of July celebration in the little town of Thomas. All in all a great vacation.

I could tell the house was clean but it was very smelly (most likely due to sitting empty with no air flow) and the carpets were pretty stained. I think the carpets needed a shampoo which might also help with the smell. The plumbing sounds like it has some serious issues, when flushing a toilet or showering you hear very loud humming and an almost fog horn like noise. It was so loud it would wake me and my dog up. There was also only handsoap in the half bath and nowhere else in the home. The yard hadn't been cut the first day we were there, the grass was above my lab's head but luckily the next day it was taken care of. Otherwise we liked the neighborhood, it was quiet and my dog enjoyed walking by the lake. We love the Canaan Valley area and found the location convenient. If this home was maintained better I would stay here again but at the price I think there are nicer places I have stayed in the area.

May 20-25-2024. One of our yearly visits to the valley staying in Old Timberline was nice and enjoyable with the family and granddaughter. The fishing was great in the Trout Pond and Spruce Island Lake. Enjoyed the house and all the decorative decor. The weather was perfect, only rained on Friday a little while, we didn’t even have to wear a coat or jacket. We love Best of Canaan for our rental company, they are the best.. We are looking forward to the next trip in the valley this fall..

The cabin itself is nice. I was a bit taken back by the fees from the best of cannaan. The cabin rents for $175 a night on VIBO but it ends up being $300 a night with all their fees. a bit much I thought.

This was the first time we stayed at this property, and we hope to come back. The house was spacious and clean. It rained the whole time we were there, with a few breaks of clear weather, but it didn't matter. Being tucked into the woods with windows all around made it feel like we were outdoors. There is a great deck that can be accessed from the kitchen or master bedroom. We would definitely stay there again.

House is “as advertised”. Listing was accurate. The two sun rooms are amazing. Deck is a nice area to spend time as well. In close proximity to Canaan Valley State Park (7 minutes) and about 17 minutes from Davis. There’s a well stocked grocery store in Davis. They have a nice selection of local beers there. Or take a short walk to Stumpstown Brewery from the grocery store. We are not used to picking up keys for rentals. Most places have lock boxes. But, you have to practically drive by the rental agency to get to the property. So… no big deal. It’s a gated community so no riff raff and the neighboring houses are almost invisible with the foliage. An added bonus… a short drive to the top of development gives you access to Dolly Sods. There’s a great lookout point a short walk from where you park up top. Great for sunsets.

My husband and I stayed here for a week with our two Britney Spaniels. The house and location was great. My husband and I loved the extra family room off the master bedroom. Such beautiful views!! The back deck is huge and enclosed which was perfect for the dogs to play. We will definitely rent again!

The cleanliness and general condition of the Wald Haus did not meet our basic expectations. The location was excellent for our needs. Property management scheduled delivery of firewood. There were several issues with the cleanliness of the property as it was nowhere near spotless.
Cabinets, shelves and drawers in the kitchen need a full cleaning. We cleaned out three drawers and several shelves to make this useable during our stay.
The owners have a large amount of family memorabilia in the kitchen that is taking up space on the counters and in the kitchen cabinets.
We did not use the 2nd family room built as an addition on the main floor. The 2nd family room has large areas of mold/mildew on two walls near the ceiling.
I cleaned the owners vacuum and purchased vacuum bags to sweep the floors.
The key only worked well in the main entrance, the rest of the door locks including the lock on the garage access door need to be replaced.
Gutters overflowed during moderate rain, and there were several indications on the ceiling of water damage. I used the owner's ladder to clean out the gutters over the deck. The walkway to the deck has washed out creating a safety hazard along the side of the house. Garage door track needs realigned.
I sent emails to the property manager outlining these issues.
We looked at other properties to rent in 2022 to find an alternative to the Wald Haus for our next extended stay in Canaan Valley. I would not recommend this property in it's current condition to a friend or relative.

Our first stay here was in March to ski at Timberline. It was fun to return and visit during the warmer September weather. House has everything you could need for your stay. I recommend bringing tinfoil to line the old cookie sheets and plastic wrap for any leftovers. The patio was great for our toddler and dog to enjoy the fresh air and scenery without running off. Both large TVs have Netflix for streaming tv shows and movies (you’ll need your login info). There is WiFi but it tended to be slow and cut out at times while surfing the web, even after resetting it twice. The beds are comfy, bathrooms nice and clean. The Timberline-exclusive trailhead just outside Dolly Sods was awesome for taking a short hike to the top and walking down the Valley View Trail. We enjoyed playing cards at the large table, watching the setting sun through the trees, and taking in the crisp evening air.Unfortunately, the condition of the house went downhill since our last visit and we were quite disappointed to find a number of broken items (dishwasher rack, disposal, numerous lightbulbs). The rental agency was quick to replace the battery in our smoke detector that started beeping the evening after we arrived (that was a rough night). A number of improvements would go a long way towards increasing the rental experience:-Replacing the missing window screens and putting in screen doors to the patio would really help with ventilation. Replacements screens are still being made.-Due to higher humidity and lack of ventilation in the back living room, there is mold high up on the walls. Increasing ventilation and putting in a dehumidifier would really help. We avoided that room.-Weather stripping at bottom of the doors needs replacing. Creepy crawlies were finding their way in.-Owners should remove the trunk from the large bedroom. It is full of mothballs and makes the bedroom and adjacent rooms smell awful. We stuck it outside on the patio during our stay.

The cabin was beautiful with the decor so fascinating. Brought home a lot of pictures so others could see how picturesque it was. If we had no doctor's appointments, we would have stayed as long as possible. I would encourage others to stay at least a week or more. We were truly rested when we returned was better then described so we enjoyed the wildlife and did not leave it until the day we came home and enjoyed every day. We would reccomend it to everyone who likes the quiet life.

We really enjoyed the property and wished our personal schedules would gave permitted us to stay longer. It was nice to put kids to bed upstairs and just relax in master suite without disrupting kids' sleeping schedules. It was also nice to be able to put our dogs' crate in washroom area so he could rest and feel safe at night. We had deer visit and we loved the sound of the stream flowing near the property. A wonderful property!!! (Our kids' loved the variety of DVDs upstairs. We didn't have enough time to watch all of our classic faves.)

We really enjoyed the property and wished our personal schedules would gave permitted us to stay longer. It was nice to put kids to bed upstairs and just relax in master suite without disrupting kids' sleeping schedules. It was also nice to be able to put our dogs' crate in washroom area so he could rest and feel safe at night. We had deer visit and we loved the sound of the stream flowing near the property. A wonderful property!!! (Our kids' loved the variety of DVDs upstairs. We didn't have enough time to watch all of our classic faves.)

Our family of four enjoyed renting Wald Haus. The location was fantastic for the activities we had planned. If you want to go to the Dolly Sods area for hiking, you will have access to a private entrance with parking. The house is located near Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley State Parks and is within an hour of the Seneca Rocks area.
The home itself is roomy, with a nice deck area and a good sized kitchen. While the kitchen was stocked with most cookware and utensils you may want, be aware that you will need to supply your own ziplock bags, Saran wrap, foil, and so on. We were only provided with three dishwasher tablets and we were there for eight nights so you may also want to bring those as well. The beds were comfortable and the full bathrooms were conveniently located. There is both a family room area as well as a living room. The living room can only be accessed through the bedroom or the deck which is something to keep in mind if two families were sharing the house. Overall we had a great time there and would rent this property again.

The sitting room in the back is full of windows and makes you feel like you're tucked in the woods while sitting there. The main areas of the house were big enough for the five of us to be comfortable. And this was a good central location for the hikes we wanted to do. And the back deck is gated off so we were able to relax with our morning coffee while the dogs roamed around safely on the deck.

Wald Haus had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the things you need for cooking. The beds were comfortable and the house had a good supply of sheets, towels, wash clothes, etc. The house was very clean and well maintained. Over all our stay was excellent.
