The location was excellent and the staff were very friendly. The honesty bar is a great asset and has a lovely vibe.
I'd booked a more expensive room but as we had our dog my booking was changed to a garden room - we knew this before we arrived and were happy however what we hadn't realised is that we weren't allowed to take our dog into the restaurant for breakfast. As he is an anxious dog the option of leaving him on his own in the room wasn't open to us. The breakfast that was served to our room was outstanding but one of us had to eat sat on the bed due to the room not being very big. We have stayed in lots of dog friendly hotels and we have never had to leave our dog in the room - usually there is a table/tables set to one side in the restaurant to cater for guests with pets. As this hotel markets itself as being dog friendly I do find this strange and having checked their website I can't find anywhere obvious where this is communicated; I really shouldn't have to search to find it.

Breakfast, room & location, all good.
There was nothing we disliked.
4.5
Fantastic location and a brilliant breakfast. Check in was easy as was communication beforehand.
Could hear everything though the walls/ceiling which really affected our sleep. We could hear the people above us walking around as the floorboards were creaking. Bathroom seal was dirty and broken and shower could have been cleaner.

Grei beliggenhet. Koselig rom som bar preg av kvalitetssans og gjennomtenkte valg av f.eks. te og kaffe. Rominnredning var valgt med omhu. Deilig frokost i hyggelig rom med utsikt til hage.

Very local to the town and lovely furnished. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast is amazing.
The bed was a bit hard for me but some might like that.
4.5
A wonderful individual property, a refreshing change from the bland, repetitive and dull.

Very comfortable, friendly staff, and huge bed. Excellent breakfasts. Lovely Manageress. Would recommend.

Great location, looked fantastic, extensive breakfast

I have stayed at this property on a previous occasion and will stay with them again. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location both for the centre of Shrewsbury and also for the river. Handy parking nearby. Clean and comfortable, good value for money. The breakfast was lovely. Overall a good place to stay.
The person that I travelled with did not sleep well she said she was too hot. I personally found it to be fine. I have absolutely no complaints. My friend also mentioned that she likes cotton sheets, again this did not bother me in the slightest.

Excellent location, rooms were clean and comfy. Very good breakfast, lots of choice and very tasty.
Noise from the room above disrupted our sleep a little. Very creaky floorboards when people were walking around in their room kept us awake.

Location, decor , staff and great breakfast
The only parking is a local car park and it was expensive and probably the only down part of our trip to Shrewsbury ...we were told we could pay for the next days parking when we were leaving

Everything
It was a little cold no heating in the morning

Great building, lovely room, fantastic location and the breakfast was delicious. Car park just round the corner.
The mattress was a little bit uncomfortable, it dipped on one side. Maybe time for a new one. Didn’t stop us sleeping though.
4.5
Unique decor. Comfortable room and bed. Great staff. Lovely breakfast
Very noisy plumbing. Hot water never got hot

Stayed in number 14 with garden view, unfortunately the people or person above us were extremely bad mannered! Noisy all through the night, bagging and crashing! And to top it in between the awful noise there was horrendous snoring!

We were made very welcome on arrival with a map of Shrewsbury and lots of recommendations.
Our room was outside but it was part of the main building and was a great room. Small details like plenty of sockets (near mirrors etc) Coffee teas were excellent quality, and the hand soap/hand moisurisers smelt delicious. Breakfast was amazing, we don't eat meat so always a bit concerned about breakfasts but there was lots of choice for pescatarians/vegan etc
All in all a great stay and would highly recommend.

Once again the stay at Darwin's was brilliant. Comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, and a superb breakfast.
Nothing.

The whole hotel is very nicely decorated and very clean. The room was well laid out. Two comfy twin beds, tea/coffee facilities, and a nice bathroom with lovely toiletries. The room was spotless and as it was at the end of the hallway was also very quiet. There was a bottle of water by the bed which was a nice touch. The honesty bar is a really lovely idea, and it was nice to sit with other guests when we came in. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of options including gluten free. The breakfast room is light and airy, a very enjoyable atmosphere. The staff throughout our stay were friendly, helpful and very pleasant.
Nothing not to like!
4.5
The room was clean and comfy, and a blanket and bowl for the dog. Breakfast the next morning more than made up for my lack of sleep (see “what did’nt you like below) with a vast array of goodies and the cooked breakfast was 1st class! Would definately stay again as the staff were so lovely and made you feel very welcome……
The lights at night, very difficult to sleep with so many “lights” in the room…..2 x green fire exit lights,
1 x blue light for heating, and then the strret lights to contend with ( maybe replace the window dressings with blackout blinds, one that covers the whole door)…..hence lack of sleep as stated above!

Location was amazing, the welcome by Ann was 1st class. Room was really clean and well equipped with great little touches. Breakfast was superb and the staff are amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely historic building really cosy and welcoming. Thankyou!

Everything was great! Staff were exceptional. Breakfast was really lovely.

Good quality rooms, friendly staff, great breakfast.
No parking but that’s common for a lot of town properties.

This was the second time we had stayed at this property and once again we were not disappointed. We
upgraded our room to a super king and it was well worth the extra cost. The staff were most welcoming
and efficient. The room itself was very comfortable and very clean. Breakfast has a good choice and the
cooked breakfast was excellent.
The location is very good and central with a very good car park a few minutes walk away.
Overall a very good place to visit Shrewsbury.
4.5
Great location for central Shrewsbury.
Disappointed that we could not have a full breakfast Christmas morning as staff given the day off. Replacement tray was good, however no room to eat properly at a table. Sat on the bed to eat. Would have enjoyed a special breakfast for Christmas Day.
4.5
The quality of the bed and furnishings and bathroom in the room were good. The TV wasn't exceptional so I watched stuff on my laptop instead. The warmth of the room was lovely, helped that it was quite a small room. Breakfasts was very good, my highlight.
As it is an old building, the window to my room did not insulate outside sound that well but I had a decent sleep. The shower had a limited number of settings but it did the job.

Lovely and clean, great staff, every fixture and fitting of a high quality.
The area of our room (12) where the coffee was could have benefited from an extra light. Coffee in the room was good though.
4.5
Lovely comfortable rooms and the staff were very attentive and welcoming.
4.5
Central, with helpful and polite staff.
Rooms were a bit small and felt expensive for aB&B
4.5
The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was great with a lot of choice. The hotel is decorated with ornaments and maps related to Charles Darwin's explorations and discoveries, which gives it a quirky character. Even the tea and coffee-making facilities included a great variety with delicious biscuits. The location is handy, just a short walk from the railway station.
The room was a bit smaller than it appeared online, but fine for a short stay.
4.5
Such a lovely B&B, but much much more. From arriving to a wonderful welcome, to the amazing breakfast (best I’ve had by a long shot) & hubby agreed. Stayed in a garden room, not huge but everything we needed in there.
Nothing
