It seemed amazing but I came in the dark and left in the dark early morning
Reception closing at 9:30 pm meant I had an incredibly stressed bus ride from stansted airport to get there in time as I booked late. When I arrived however my host was very accomodating given I was a last minute booking and changed my room to accomodate my large suitcase not needing stairs she went above and beyond to order a taxi and process my arrival and departure. It was excellent service. She also stayed in the line to help me find the right bus in time. Without her help I could not have arrived from my very delayed flight in time nor could I have arrived for my next 7 am flight in time .. excellent service

Very nice property, very clean and lovely new carpets, pillows were a bit flat for me as I only like one pillow & two made it too high, best take my own next time. The owners were lovely as was the housekeeper, so friendly and the breakfast was first class. Highly recommend this guest house.

The cooked breakfast was exceptional! And the service was very good. A lovely place for a short break.
We were in room 15. Around 10pm - there was a noise a bit like a generator or something industrial from the next room that produced a loud whirring sound for around half an hr - which was a little off putting.

Quaint 17th century building. Bedrooms beautifully clean and comfortable.
a warmer welcome would have been nice and a brief explanation about services that were available including booking breakfast.

The setting and the welcome. Also the room was comfortable, clean and quiet.
The temperature control in the shower was stuck on hot and it took some force to release it. Limited cereals for breakfast and no choice of bread for toast.

Beautiful surroundings. Most comfortable bed. Very clean. Lovely hosts
A bit further than I would have like as the taxi fare adds to the cost. And the shock of finding the cost of the room appearing twice on my bank account. The owner explained why that happened and has advised Aviivo to release the 2nd amount but so far nothing has happened

The Grange is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac and has excellent views across woods down to Shanklin Chine.
The Grange is an interesting building with attractive gardens and a sunny terrace. The self-service bar is a good idea. The public rooms are well positioned and pleasant to use.
Eating out: we would recommend Pendletons which is 200 metres away and for a curry, The House of Spice, a little further away.
For a bed & breakfast, it is very overpriced at just under £150 a night. We were happy to pay a bit extra with the expectation that the offer would be above the normal standard. This was not the case with The Grange.
After the first night, we spoke to the manager to express our concerns about the quality of the room (see below). She was sympathetic and did offer to see if there was alternative accommodation in Shanklin. However, we were surprised by her reaction later on that day when she told us that unfortunately she was unable to find alternative accommodation. She said “well, it’s only one more night.” I agree it was just one more night, but it was a night in an inadequate room and with the expectation of a sleepless night in an uncomfortable bed. We would have accepting that we had to put up with the situation but not at £150!
The Room
The room (no. 2) is set out for disabled guests. It is very small set out as an L shape to accommodate the bathroom. One of the beds was constantly squeaky and the occupant had two sleepless nights as a consequence.
There was only one chair. It was explained that as the room was designed to accommodate a wheelchair, there was only room for one chair. Consequently, we brought in a metal garden chair from the garden. As it happens the room is much too small to accommodate a wheelchair.
As the bathroom is set out for a disabled guest, the sink is at wheelchair height and is tiny with an overlarge tap. The shower is not designed for a disabled person in any case as there is a step up to get into the cubicle and a slip mat was not provided.
We mentioned these issues to the manager who told us that the owners were aware of the issues.
After booking and prior to arrival, we were not told that we would be occupying a room designed for a disabled guest. We might have accepted the room but not on the basis of its very small size and the inadequate facilities. One previous reviewer mentioned that they had seen larger sinks on a plane.

Breakfast was finished by 8:30am which I felt was a little too early
The bed was squeaky and made a noise on both sides when either of us turned over, it was comfy but disturbed us when trying to sleep.
