Location near the school where we were attending a music festival
Virtually no staff on duty. Ran out of toilet paper but no spares provided and no staff on hand.
At night there was a crowd of drinkers just below our window and the noise continued until 2 am. There was a warning of loud music but it stopped at 1 am.

Decor could do with a good tidy up going out for breakfast to another place to be told the sign at the bottom of the stairs telling us where to go should have been taken down

Beautiful view from room, staff very friendly and welcoming, Breakfast average, bar meal good. nice atmosphere in bar.
Expensive for what you got and breakfast was extra on top. Felt let down for money paid unfortunately. Dearest hotel on our North Coast 500 trip and not up to standard for price paid.

bed was comfy and the curtain were blackout.
upon arrival you had to sign a noise waver which we weren’t aware of upon booking. The bar was very loud and playing music until very late (2am ish) then at 4:40am the neighbours started a conversation which could be heard very clearly through the wall. the shower had mould & spider in, and was also up the corridor with a broken window. the light also didn’t work.

Very friendly and helpful staff and lively bar with an open mic night when we arrived. Perfect situation for the ferry terminal. Very comfy beds.
Separate bathroom down the hall. Decor is very dated however it has new ownership and they will be updating. Will definately stay again.

This "hotel" is a dump.
We arrived in the pouring rain having followed directions to the car park which resembled a council rubbish tip. The fire-door was wide-open so we entered the building behind two other people who had arrived at the same time as us. We found ourselves in a pokey reception area cluttered with folded outdoor furniture and parcel deliveries but no sign of life. We rang the bell and waited; nobody came. The office phone was ringing, nobody answered it. The rest of the place was in darkness, the bar, kitchen, chairs on tables in the dining area, all deserted. There were a few keys on the counter, one key was labelled Room8 so we decided to find the room ourselves. The staircase was very dark until we turned a corner and a motion sensor light came on to reveal shabby carpet, damaged woodwork and shoddy repairs. Eventually we found Room8 on the top floor. Our hearts sank when we opened the door. The room was cold and uninviting, the carpet was badly stained, the walls painted ghastly dark brown with a greasy sheen. The bathroom was no better. There was no light switch, only the two-inch remnant of a cord dangling from the ceiling, fortunately we are both quite tall so were able to reach it by standing on tiptoes and stretching upwards. The toilet seat was falling off, the waste-bin was broken and although we didn't like the look of the shower our decision not to use it was based purely on the ambient temperature in this very cold room. There was no central heating except for a wall-mounted electric heater which didn't work. There was a portable oil-filled plug-in heater next to the bed, this 1.5KW appliance was totally inadequate for a room of this size but there was nothing else so we plugged it in and kept it switched on throughout the night.
After finding our own room, we went back down to our vehicle via the same door to get our luggage, when we tried to get back into the hotel we found someone had locked us out. We had no option but to walk around the block in the pouring rain to enter through the front door with our bags. Around 5pm we ventured outside to find a restaurant, (we had considered dining in the hotel until we actually saw the place). On our return we noticed a piece of paper stuck to one of the front windows, it said, "For arrivals before 4pm please check-in at the Ferry Boat Inn behind you". We hadn't seen the notice on arrival because we had followed their directions to the car park at the rear. Later on, we spent about an hour watching TV in the room but were so cold we decided to try and get some sleep and checkout as early as possible in the morning. We slept in our pyjamas, hoodies and socks with the little heater on full power but it was not a restful sleep and we left the hotel at 6.30 the following morning without seeing the view we'd paid extra for. The cost of our room was £104.50. Coincidentally the young man in the room next-door was leaving at the same time. We chatted whilst defrosting our cars, he told me he paid £42 for a similar room to ours with the same outlook I.e. a view over the harbour. He booked directly with the hotel, was also cold during the night and had also slept with the little oil-filled heater switched-on throughout.
Our experience at the Argyll Hotel has completely altered my opinion of Booking.com and destroyed my faith in their website.
I have used booking.com on several previous occasions but this is the first time I've needed to raise a complaint, their Customer Service and complaint-handling is poor to say the least.

Nothing. The room did not have an ensuite which made the stay for one adult and two children awkward. But much worse than this was the very very loud folk music played in the bar below which meant nobody could get to sleep until after midnight.
Advising clearly that there was no ensuite and that it would not be possible to get any peace or possibility of sleeping until after midnight.

Lovely views from the room. Food in the Restaurant was very delicious
Well where to start...the pillows were flat, the shower felt like it only had two setting, boiling hot or freezing. We were woken up in the early hours from the street noise outside of what seemed like the whole of Ullapool had congregated. Found it very hard to get back to sleep and seeing as we had a 9 hour drive home the next day was not ideal. Maybe the hotel should invest in better windows?

Friendly staff, comfortable beds great location with nice views.
Ensuite is tired and needs upgraded.
2.9
convenient location
filthy, noisy, dated/falling to bits

Small but clean room and a great Full Scottish Breakfast in the morning. Good value for money charged.
It would have been nice to have a slightly bigger room and the hot water tap in the sink had to be run forever to get any hot water out of it.

very friendly and accommodating staff - held a table for us for dinner even though we arrived late. great location right on the water! very clean!
there was a private bathroom as advertised, but it was across the hall - not connected to our room. being a pub, it was a bit noisy late into the night, but that was to be expected.

breakfast was very good.even if I came a bit to late I was served anyway.room was not big and not 5stars (anyway room vas better than I expected for the price I paid)but cosy and clean.beds very comfortable, view through my window was incredible.port and snowy mountaint top was visible through it.
only one thing was not what expected,i came with my family and tv in my room was small andin place that only from one bed we could watch it...but because we came there not to watch tv I do not counting it as a problem :D .so basically I have no issues about it

how close to the coast we were
water ran cold for shower, it was cold in the room couldn’t work the radiator

Cosy room with good view (front of Hotel). Excellent breakfast and friendly staff and good bar meals. Great location.
Stairs were a bit steep but that's the trade off to stay in a nice traditional old hotel
2.9
Great hotel/pub nice room overlooking the harbour. Lovely food served downstairs in the pub sat in front of the log fire. Very dog friendly.
2.9
Excellent location with beautiful views. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice open fire in the bar area. Seating outside when the weather is good. Comfortable beds.
Cobwebs in the rooms. Paint scrapes on the walls where luggage has scraped the walls. Could do with a total refurb. Bathroom had cracked bath panel, tiles that had been replaced but no grout round them. Damp on the wall at the top corner. As said earlier it requires a total refurb. It’s a shame as the property has so much potential but requires investment to reach a reasonable standard.
