Unbelievable location, service and food. Unforgettable

Esperienza magnifica, la pace dei sensi…
Camera con vista sul bosco e onsen privato meraviglioso… Esperienza unica!

It was a highlight of our family’s two week tour of Japan. It was so full of surprises of peacefulness, with dinners and breakfasts served privately, with courtesy and creativity. One of our servers seemed friendly enough to participate in conversations, and she explained modestly she had been a Japan national track and field competitor in competitions in Columbia, Brazil, USA. It was an inspiring two days.

The location and setting are perfect. Unforgettable. It allows to completely immerse into Japanese culture. Beautiful room views and delicious dinner and breakfast.
The one thing is that the bed mattress is quite thin, which means you can feel the floor. But still, completely worth it.

We were looking for a very authentic Ryokan, that will allow us to feel as close as possible to traditions, in food and travelling. It matched all our expectations. The staff was incredible.
Even this was exactly what we were looking for, adapting to the food for the children both for breakfast and dinner was a bit hard. They enjoyed the room, the Onsen and some of the food. Just be mindful how flexible they are in their eating habits.

Very traditional. Outstanding food!
Sleeping on the floor mats was challenging.

The place is a one of a kind accomodation. We were travelling with our children three weeks in Japan and wanosato is a special place. Entering the accomodation there is a authentic entree with a (smell of) fire, pots and pans and a hans and grettle atmosphere but in a sense of style kind of way. The staff was more than amazing in making us feel home and comfortable. The onsen, we had seen many after two weeks of travel but this one is beautiful. There is a private time lock for the family to share men and women in a real cave. Beautiful and very relaxed. The food was amazing. After many ryokan stays, this food was remarkable refined Japanese food and at the same time accessible. This place is definitely worth a visit.
Nothing. The place was beyond expectations

Wanosato is a rustic, beautiful and peaceful Ryokan, where you fall asleep listening to the soft gushing sounds of the river flowing right next to you, Waking up to the view of the beautiful river right in front of you is so surreal. The villa is not old or dated. The whole place is meant to look rustic and au naturel, a place for one to detox and recharge, away from city life.
We booked our accommodation with half board, which I highly recommend as Chef Kakuta Yamato prepares exquisite and delicious breakfast and dinners that not only taste excellent but also look aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Our waitress-host Aoki Rin, who is always cheerful, joyful and attentive, makes us feel so welcomed and all our meals taste even better. The fireplace at the reception is so warm and calming, and warm sake was served by an elderly staff, who also showed us some magic tricks. We sat by the fire, sipping our warm sake and chatting with strangers-turn-friends. Last but not least, the Ryokan has a beautiful onsen, which we can book privately for about an hour each day, relaxing after a whole day of walking and sight-seeing. Overall, the stay at Wanosato is one of the best experiences my husband and I have experienced. Kudos to the staff and management at Wanosato!
Everything is perfect

nice and quite. relaxing atmosphere.
This property is further away from the Takayama station and town but it’s a heaven. our room was facing the water fall and the bush. Excellent breakfast and dinner. staff are very polite and helpful. Hot spring is not crowded.

location was 10/10, helpful staff, original accommodation, traditional Japanese style.
the main room was unbearable with smoke, the kimonos smelled like smoke, our bathroom was very cold. also I wished that the sake man could speak English to be able to communicate with us and tell us stories as we were sitting by the fire.

The staff, food and ambiance of Wanosato were fantastic.
Dinner and breakfast we're both outstanding showing off Hida local produce including Hida beef.
The onsens are very special with great views of the river.

Every aspect of my our stay was incredible. Food, room, amenities, service were all immaculate. Not to mention the view and the traditional building themselves were extraordinary. If I ever come back to the area, I will most certainly be staying a couple nights.

Nice room with river view. The 10 course kaiseki is beyond expactation. Good value for dinner and breakfast.
We got a free upgrade for our honeymoon trip. Thankyou. The Sake by the Fire is real traditional Japanese style. And there are not many people when we stay there.
The private onsen can be better. The location of hotel is next to the road which can be seen.
4.7
The service, the history, the amazing food, the beautiful nature, the incredible architecture, the authenticity and the relaxing onsen. Worth every penny.

beautiful location, so peaceful.

The meals were delicious and beautifully displayed.
The snowscape scenery from the room is breathtaking. The staff were most friendly & helpful.
The private Onsen session is really good.
Whilst the heating in the bedroom is warm enough, the sitting room is still a bit cold. The corridors are cold too.

Wanosato had atmosphere to spare, featuring a marvelous blend of traditional architectural elements and modern comforts. The meals were not only delicious but beautifully plated on yakimono of various shapes and colors. The baths were very pleasant (and totally empty of other guests!). Best of all was the unbeatable location, next to a murmuring forest stream blanketed in snow. We could not have asked for better Christmas weather, as we were treated to gentle snowfalls during the entirety of our stay.
This is not a complaint so much as a suggestion -- the baths, though gorgeous, would benefit from the addition of a rotenburo (open-air bath) to drink in all that gorgeous forest scenery while bathing. And though the staff was in general very hospitable and welcoming, the front desk receptionist's demeanor was surprisingly chilly (perhaps because she was stuck manning a very chilly entrance room?).
4.7
Service were impeccable. very good amenities in the room and in the onsen.
We had half board and food was pretty good!
I had stayed in Ryokan with very good Futon. unfortunately I hoped the futon they use can be better.
4.7
at this price point, the facility seems limited such as no private onsen in the room,
