The carpet in the master bedroom was badly soiled and extremely poor condition. The exterior looks like an abandoned home. This property should not be rented in this condition.
10.0 / 10.0
Great communication with property. Very clean, unique remodel of a home to have a rental and owner space together. Did not like that the master bedroom has no lock on the door and that the door upstairs leading to oqner’s part of the house can not be locked from renters side.

We enjoyed our stay primarily for the cleanliness and location. It is across from a cemetery, but that didn’t bother us. Quiet neighbors, my husband said. But we loved the covered side porch and the comfy bed.
Only down sides were the bathroom was very small, especially the shower, and the floors are pretty uneven, which would be a challenge for older guests (including the steep and slippery stairs up to the primary bedroom).
Also, it appears that the owners suite is located just down the hall from the guest room. Luckily they weren’t home during our visit, but we had the impression that their space was more separated based on the listing.

The home was very lovely and comfy, just a perfect stay!! Very clean, beds were comfortable, kitchen fully stocked (we cooked Christmas dinner!). The atmosphere was very homey and everything was tastefully decorated. The extras they had for us was very thoughtful.Such a wonderful location, very convenient to everything, and the neighborhood was beautiful. We felt very secure and safe during our stay, and Jon & Megan were superb hosts & very delightful to communicate with! We have stayed at other vacay rental homes and find this to be one of the top homes we’ve had the great pleasure to stay in! I would highly recommend this home to anyone considering staying here

The house was charming! An older home, remodeled with the conveniences of modern life, yet keeping touches of the past. The home was absolutely immaculate, with many necessities supplied. We would definitely stay here again!

Review
Advertised price per night was actually double after fees and cleaning. Guest is expected to wash all dishes, clean the house for the next guest, strip the beds and towels and take the garbage cans to the curb. Ridiculous. Killed 2 roaches in the living room and the house is loud at night with the creaking and settling.

Adequate but not special.
The property doesn't match the picture. The outside needs to be relandscaped. It currently makes the house dark inside being so overgrown. The inside of the house was acceptable except for the shower. The shower on my 42 ft sailboat was much larger or compared to the shower on a typical cruise ship this is much smaller. We had problems with the TV. It turns out the house does not have cable TV, just roku TV. There are no instructions telling you this or explaining it. We enjoyed our stay in New Bern but the accommodations could have been better.

Beautiful home!
What can I say about this home - it was awesome! Beautifully decorated and very stylish. In an awesome location. Especially if you like grave yards. (The neighbors won't bother you)! Close to all amenities. Shopping, sight seeing, restaurants, etc. Would recommend to everyone. Will be back!

Great Time
Strongly recommend this house if you want to enjoy the local culture of New Bern. Walking distance to Front St. and all other downtown points of interest.

better to stay at Doubletree on the River
hazardous parking. cheap or inadequate kitchen knife, wine cork puller, silverware ( no soup spoons), etc.. Had to buy garbage bags, and a threat of additional charges is we didn't help to clean up....when we were paying most expensive lodging in the area. Grounds were overgrown and untidy..not like the pictures. Fisheye lens pics did not give accurate size of closet sized shower..better not be a large person.

Great time!
We had a great experience at this house. Clean and comfortable. Not quite close enough to walk places but only a short drive away from most places downtown.

Felt Like Home
Had everything you could possibly need in a home. The house was clean and spacious as well. Being able to enjoy the outdoors is a bonus with a lovely front and side porch. So much better than staying at a hotel!

Great Family Respite
Great family weekend escape! Loved the close proximity to downtown and walkability of New Bern. Enjoyed lots of great restaurants, several parks for our 4 year old, and even the “Accidental Artist” for decorating our own pottery.

Perfect Location
The accommodation was very spacious and in a great location, so that we could walk to everything. The owners had thought of everything and more, and we loved the Christmas decorations. The weather was quite chilly but we were cozy and warm. We were sorry that we couldn't sit outside on the deck! Always great to have a parking space.

Lovely home
We visited New Bern looking for a retirement location. It didn’t disappoint! And staying in this historic house was so much more comfortable than a hotel. We had coffee in the porch and could walk downtown easily. The one full bathroom is small but we were all family so it wasn’t an issue. Everything was clean and well stocked. I highly recommend this house for a small family group!

First, let me just say that I've never written a review about any property and I traveled a lot pre-COVID, including internationally. I'm compelled to write this review because of the comfort and character of this property, its location as well as the responsiveness to questions by the owner. The historic house has been meticulously upgraded. Plenty of windows throughout. Kitchen is well equipped. Living room area has a comfortable couch and a Roku TV so you can use your Netflix and Prime accounts. The dining room is beautifully furnished. The upstairs bedroom was perfect - VERY comfy bed and bedding, more windows all around. 1 1/2 bathrooms both well furnished. We loved sitting on the big front porch and looking at the Spanish Moss in the trees across the street and having cocktails on the large and well furnished patio.Next time we visit the New Bern area we hope this beautiful place is available. Book it -- you'll be happy you did!

A Great Stay in NC's First Capital
We rode out hurricane Isaias in this house. The owners were hospitable and all of their recommendations for food and sites to visit were excellent.
Easy day trips to Wilmington, Beaufort, Cape Lookout, Atlantic Beach, etc.
The living and dining areas were spacious and were able to use the TV and log in to Netflix, Amazon, etc. to watch a movie or sports. The bedrooms were a good size, however, like all old houses (we live in one), the bathrooms are small, but tastefully decorated.
We would stay here again.

Quick Getaway
My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days to someplace we had never been before. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was a little farther from the center of town than we were hoping but was convenient nonetheless. The owners offered us the use of their kayaks so we spent a couple of hours one morning paddling on the river. It was a very peaceful and relaxing way to start a day!

Lovely historic home
This was a seamless rental experience; beautiful home with thoughtful amenities provided. Easy walk to downtown; also, two blocks away from the library on a quiet street. Note to future renters that the main bedroom is generously sized, but the second bedroom is much smaller. Overall, the actual home is nicer than the online photos! Thank you for a great stay!

December 5 2019
Property was in updated condition with modern amenities and old feel charm. About a 5-10 minute walk to DT New Bern and the pier. Be prepared no local tv channels to watch news but able to stream Netflix, Amazon, etc.
Easy to book online through VRBO and Evolve and quick turn around on emails/check in.
Although not as close to the water as we’d like, it was still a quiet and old town feel vibe,

Great Owners and location
We had a lovely trip to New Bern this past weekend and enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and charming old home. There was an initial misunderstanding due to the original listing description but the owners went above and beyond to rectify the situation, make the property work for our group, and were super courteous hosts. The location is on the edge of the historic downtown area and an easy walk right into town. Beds were very comfortable, the property was clean, and everything we needed was easily located in the home. I would definitely consider this property again for my next trip to New Bern!
