Unfortunately the views at the house are not enough to overcome the lack of cleanliness and quality of amenities in this home.
We arrived at 6pm on our check in day and the house was filthy. Dirty sheets and towels, dirty floors, crumbs on tables/counters. We called the rental company and they did get a cleaner - but due to the remote location, we did not get a cleaner finished with the house so that we could move into our rooms until after 11pm. We lost the first night and had to have all 13 of us sit on the deck until they were done.
The rest of the week was spent mostly outside the house at wedding events and hiking the area - such a beautiful location.
The kitchen, bathrooms and overall house are 'okay' - but clearly has been overused and not fully taken care of. No cushions on the outside furniture, wall hooks that fall off the walls when towels are hung on them, no kitchen knives (had grilled steaks and had to use pizza cutter to cut pieces).
If the home got a mild update and deep clean, the next people may have a better, more satisfying experience.

Beautiful location with hiking trails close by. Appliances in kitchen were a challenge the oven and various outlets were unable to be used together. The hot tub was not operable although the property managers tried. This would have been a deal breaker for us when renting if we had known. Great space for multiple families and we would definitely stay again.

Overall the place is as described. Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had all the tools we needed for cooking and the house was well equipped. The hot tub was a nice bonus with the views of the mountains. The movie and game rooms were set up wonderfully. Our large group was allowed to spread out and never felt on top of one another. The only thing that could be improved on was keeping up with the small maintaince items in the home to keep the home stellar.

Great place. Location was fantastic. The views. Wow. Hiking in the morning and pool in the afternoon. With cooking meals every night the kitchen became a little crowded but that's kind of tradition.

We are a group of 9 friends, ages 68 - 73, who enjoyed our 4-night stay. The beds were great; there was room in the living room for enough comfortable seating for all of us after we temporarily moved 2 chairs up from downstairs; the kitchen was well-stocked (the bowl and fork issues noted in other reviews had been resolved, although there still isn't an electric can opener); the 2 tables each seat 10 people. The furnishings are in good shape. The hot tub was clean & its temperature was nice & hot. The bathrooms (5) were nice; the upstairs (3 bedrooms, 5 people) has only one bathroom, but the main floor non-dedicated bathroom also had a shower. The house had been satisfactorily cleaned. We're actually giving the house 3 & 1/2 stars, because although the weather got down into the 30's at night, we couldn't get the Nest-type thermometer to maintain 70 degrees - it kept reverting to a setting of 59 degrees a few minutes after being set. We were following the directions given by the office to set it, and several of our members were familiar with using this type of thermometer. We'd estimate that the actual temperature of the main floor was in the mid-to-upper 60's during most of the days, low 60's on arising until mid-mornings. This would have been less of an issue if the wood fireplace in the living room has been usable, but it had been filled with plastic cacti and a cheap set of battery-operated "candles" with dead batteries, clearly indicating that the fireplace was not to be used, which was a real disappointment. We used blankets from the main-floor hall closet and our own personal lap blankets to stay warm. The kitchen and kitchen dining area were warm enough due to cooking, but the bedrooms were pretty chilly. The LR thermometer controls the entire house. We didn't use the small outside gas "fireplace" as the tank was old & rusted & there were no operating instructions - it felt unsafe to try it. Some members felt that the house needs maintenance (main microwave is out-of-order (a smaller countertop model was present); messy, dirty garage; wood trim needs re-nailing in the LR over the window; an upstairs closet door is difficult to operate and then couldn't be closed; the main floor bathroom door needs trimming (big scrape on the floor where it's dragging). Although these things did not detract from our enjoyment, they caused some to gripe about the cost. An informational notebook needs to be provided.

We had a great family trip. The house was amazing. Great views, plenty of space for the family. The hike up the mountain was adventurous. But the trek was well worth it. Will be coming back.

Great location and views. Carolina Cabin Rentals was super fantastic in responding and accommodating our request and concerns.
House is really neat layout. Home needs supplies in kitchen which CCR addressed.

This home had everything in it to make you feel comfortable while away from your own home. I really appreciated the availability of a real person to speak to when I had questions. We would definitely stay here again

Lovely place but ...
The house is lovely, the view is breathtaking. Our only complaint is that there were not enough bowls for our Brunswick stew dinner. We had to go out and buy disposables. Still, we would go again, and would definitely recommend it.

Great place for our family reunion
Really a nice quiet location and house, even though Google maps has no clue how to get there, CCR sent out written directions that were helpful. The house was clean when we arrived and everyone one was very pleased with the three levels and the bedroom/bathroom options for each family. The game room was a big hit for the older kids and adults when we were not out enjoying the many attractions in the area. What we really did appreciate was the thoughtfulness of providing for very young children with a couple of cribs and step stools along with the kids nook for the in between age children. The decor was nice and did not have to move items higher out of reach for our smallest toddlers. The kitchen was well equipped and served our group of 16 well. Overall a great place to stay and enjoy family and the many attractions in the area.

Mountain top getaway
The house suited our group nicely. We liked the privacy that this house afforded us, it felt like we were the only ones on the mountain….other than the deer. Lots and lots of deer.
We loved that we could walk to the Emerald Outback trailhead where there was a hike suitable for anyone in our group. We walked up the mountain too and enjoyed having a drink at the bar on Beech Mountain ski slopes. Easy and pretty. We stayed over July 4th and the Beech Mountain fireworks we’re directly outside the house which was wonderful of course.
The house is showing its use and could use some attention. Prior reviews mentioned the need to have better cleaning and I agree with that as well. Neither of these things would deter me from renting the property again.
We had an issue with the hot tub and the rental company communicated with us diligently to try and resolve. I was pleased with their attention to the matter.
In all, the house accommodates a large group easily and I would stay here again.

Perfect Family Getaway
Our family of 4 (3yo and 7yo) traveled with another family (1 yo, 6yo twins). There was PLENTY of room, bedrooms, and bathrooms for all of us. The kitchen was stalked with everything we need to cook and prepare a variety of meals. The washer and dryer were used often -it was nice to have them and easily accessible. The movie room, upstairs playroom and basement were loved by all of the kids (and adults -kept the kids pretty busy!). The view was amazing...they aren't kidding about needing chains -the road to the home is no joke. The view is worth it! Would recommend to multiple families looking for a mountain home getaway.

Great spot for three families
We enjoyed our NC ski vacation staying at Mile High Lodge. We had three families there with a total of 6 kids and everyone fit comfortably. The house was well equipped with lots of extras and sleeping arrangement options. We had some issues with the hot tub, but communication with the property management was good, which we appreciated. The views are fantastic and the home feels comfortable, safe and private.

Needs better cleaning company 😔
My overall experience with the company was good! Check in was easy, cleaning lady was leaving as I arrived at 4:05 and said she was by herself. Upon walking in the home, it was FILTHY. Floors were awful and you could actually see that people had walked in and out with their shoes on. You could see the layers of dirty fingers on cabinets and the coffee table had about an inch of nastiness on it. Thankfully I brought wipes and was able to clean a little bit. The railings were literally black, there was so much dirt. I was contacted the day of my reservation stating the hot tub wasn’t working and they were trying to expedite the process. Needless to say, after daily communication it never got fixed. Unfortunately for us, the hot tub was one of the reasons I was willing to pay the high fee for this home. I’m very disappointed in this experience, and with the amount of money Vrbo charges for cleaning fees, I expected allot better. IF the house were clean, and the hot tub was working it would have been an amazing trip! House is great, and views and location are amazing! Unfortunately, I will not be booking this home in the future. It is not worth the high price they are charging.

We rented the house for a family ski trip. There were fourteen people in our group ranging in age from 14 to 75 and the house accommodated us all perfectly. The bedrooms were spacious and clean with comfortable beds and three of them offering spectacular views. There were plenty of bathrooms for all and hot water was never an issue. The house was comfortable and well furnished with lots of options for lounging after a day of skiing, or having family fun playing pool, foosball, video games or watching a movie in the theater room. The hot tub on the deck was perfect after a day on the slopes. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, even for the large group, with plenty of chairs and table space for all. We used the second dining area for games and puzzles. We would certainly stay at the house agian for a similar trip!

Fabulous! Mile High Lodge
Lovely home with awesome views of both the mountains and the town! We had ages 6 to 60 and we so enjoyed the amenities and the convenient location! We would definitely stay again. The only suggestion is to check the oven. It did not seem to seal properly and did not cook evenly (convection oven).

Mile High Lodge
The only thing that needs addressed is it needs an electric can opener, hand mixer, and hair dryer. If they can put a Keriug out they definitely can afford the items above. It was a beautiful home and we cooked the whole time we were there three meals a day for 14 people. The items above would have helped when we was mashing potatoes and opening can goods for 14 people. It makes it hard on people with tennis elbow to do it by hand. And warning for it's actually 30mins up the mountain to get to the house. But the view was well worth it and so happy the walking trails was within walking distance from house. Thank you for sharing your home.

Great view, a lot of nature.
What a crazy drive to the top of the mountain! An incredible view and great location near trails and Banner Elk. We had a bear encounter on day 1 due to previous renters garbage being available to it. The cabin was great for three families to hang out for the week. If was not as clean as I hoped. There was hair stuck in the downstairs shower drain- a lot of it- and the kitchen light over the island was a fan. To turn the light on, the fan had to be on and the fan was incredibly dusty. Also not sure if much vacuuming happened before we arrived. But, beds were great, and the cabin was amazingly equipped. We had a great stay!

Great Location! Great Views!
House is perfect for big groups, has easy access to emerald trails if you enjoy biking or hiking. The house was 5-7 minutes from town of beech mountain and located on a section with lots of wildlife. We have stayed on Beech mountain dozens of times and this was one of my favorite homes. The only thing that keeps it from being five stars is little details like most board games missing critical pieces, pool cues missing tips, dart tails needed replacing just stuff like that overall a great experience and hope to return next year.

Great house, needs attention
The house itself was fine. Lots of maintenance issues. Needs some serious TLC. Within walking distance to hiking trails, top of Beech Mtn., and The Land of Oz.

Nice but not Perfect
A nice place that has most of everything that's offered in the description, the highlight for us was the movie room and kids toys, BUT beware of things not mentioned. The two major annoyances are:
The lack of usability of the many TVs in the house. Although many signs in the house stating youtubTV, prime, netflix are available, in reality, the owner has decided to not provide and expects the renter to provide their own accounts to be used. We only found this out AFTER we arrived at the unit and paid our money in full. GOSH for paying close to $4,000 for 6 days, you would expect the owner to not cheap out on a $10 to $20 fee - we have cable at home and do not have any of these accounts - BUMMER, at least tell us before we commit money to the rental - deceptive.
The second concern is most (if not all) the dishes and mugs have major chips that are not healthy to use, These are wear and tear items that should be inspected after each rental and replace on a frequent basis. We had to go out and buy paper products to use the kitchen.
Other than the above items, we enjoyed the house and location - nice place.

Cozy getaway
Perfect location for hiking and animal watching. Lots of great activities to do inside as well for rainy days. The only downside was the cleanliness. There were clumps of dark hair in the shower in the master bathroom, as well as hairs in a few of the sinks throughout the house. All the toilet paper had been previously used. The wine glasses/cups were also covered in fingerprints and grime. I would suggest stepping up the cleaning service, especially during a pandemic as well as the high cleaning fee.

The house was ideal for large families and our dog. Entertainment items were enjoyed by our grandchildren (and adults) as Pac-man game, Pool table, Hot tub and movie room were big hits. Views was spectacular. Many trails were close by. Higher altitude, 5,400 feet gave us cool temperatures. We had a problem with lack of garbage pickup and left all in garage.

Beautiful family vacation home
From the moment we walked in the front door & saw the gorgeous view from the wall of windows in the family room we knew this was the ideal home for us. It is a beautiful, well maintained property with 3 stories which allowed each of our 3 families to enjoy a level to themselves.
The 5 children in our group ranged in age from 9 months to 11 years & there were numerous activities & areas In the home to keep everyone busy. The home theater was a hit & we watched monies daily. There Is a game room with a pool table, foosball table, electronic game table, & electronic dart board which was a huge hit.
When we weren’t hiking the beautiful trails or visiting Grandfather Mountain we were totally entertained at home. We used the grill a few times & sat on the deck each morning & evening enjoying our coffee & cocktails.
The home was very clean & everything was in working order. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes etc & there are 2 large eating tables so everyone can sit together. Cribs & a pack n’ play are provided which was helpful for our group. One of the kids room with bunk beds & a twin bed also had a game center to play the switch & other electronic games.
This home does allow pets & we took advantage bringing our 2 dogs.
We were a group of 11 & had more room than we could use.
This is the perfect vacation home for a family or group that wants a majestic view of the mountains, lots of room to relax, & access to many outdoor activities within a short driving distance.
I don’t give many 5 star reviews but this home more than deserves this rating.

The photos are 100% accurate at detailing this lovely property but in person is even better. The home waa clean and inviting, we enjoyed all the fun activities they offered except the hit tub (just did not want to). Theater room was a huge hit and family billiards. All the bedrooms were plush and comfortable. Kitchen was stocked and easy to cook in. Already want to return, fantastic property all around.

It was a beautiful snowy weekend at beech mountain. Our family enjoyed it greatly. Mile High Lodge worked great for our group. There were however just a few items that we would like to mention in regards to the house;
1) It did not take us long to realize that the only coffee pot was a keurig. We had brought a large can of coffee, which did us no good. Had to go out the next day and buy k-cups. Would be great to add a normal coffee pot for people to use or at least to have known that a keurig was the only option ahead of time.
2) Fortunately I brought a hand held can-opener with me to the lodge, which was a good thing because we could not find another can opener.
3) It was snowy and wet, yet none of the doors had door mats. A cheap door mat on the inside of the door, where people could take off wet, snowy shoes would have been great, instead of having to constantly clean up puddles of water on the floor.
4)Trash cans. There was only 1 large trash bin. With a house that sleeps 18, one can is just not enough. 2 would be better, 3 would be great.
5) Coat hooks on the wall or a coat rack of some kind would have been great. We did not find any - we had to hang wet coats on the back of chairs in the kitchen.
6) With it being so snowy, we wanted to clear out a bit of the driveway and a little on the deck, however, there was no shovel in the garage. That would have been very helpful.
7) Towels - we had enough to survive, but a few extra towels and washcloths would have been much appreciated.
8) Lastly, it did not bother us because the yard was covered in snow most of the time we were there, however, when it started to warm up on Monday before we left and the snow started to melt, we did see quite a bit of trash and beer cans that had been thrown out in the yard.
Like I said, our family had a great time and enjoyed the stay and the house. The things we've listed were minor, but would have put the whole experience over the top! On a very positive note, we would like to include the fact that we very much enjoyed the rental process through Carolina Cabins. You guys have been awesome and made the whole experience even better. For our next vacation, we may try a different home, but we will definitely go through Carolina Cabin Rentals. Thank you so much!
