The short answer is that my hosts Anne and Jack made my stay here just the best. Their warm hospitality went well beyond my expectations. I loved the lovely linen bedding and decor as it made the cottage feel so classy. The kitchenette had all the supplies I needed for light meals over my 4 day stay too. One of the best things is location. It was an easy walk to town and all the points of interest. (Try stargazing with Luca or the exquisite tea room with Kate.) Waking up to the early morning bird song each day in this garden setting will be among my fondest memories of the Summerhouse in the garden.
The weather .. but still the cottage was warm and cozy.

The location and view of the garden. The bed/bed linen.
The Hosts weren't very informative. We weren't given any keys to the studio. The gas hobb didn't work. We put a thawed chicken in the fridge & it froze! The studio wasn't very clean & there was rubbish in a plastic bag behind the microwave that had been left there from the last occupants. I rang the host to ask if we could be upgraded to a bigger room & she advised the cottage had already been let out & was available when I booked. The cottage/cottages weren't advertised on booking.com and should have been. Definitely wasn't 4 star as advertised.

The location is easy walking distance to the town centre. The summer house is separate to the man house, with a walk through to the swimming pool, which was a nice surprise. The bed was very comfortable and the room quite spacious.
We are quite security conscious so it was a surprise to find out there are no keys and you can't lock the house when you go out, so we took our valuables with us.

Lovely location - host extremely friendly. Use of pool a bonus.
Teacups tiny and one was cracked, no hairdryer, only one face washer between two people. No bathroom toiletries and not a lot of tea bags. No bedside light and not a lot of rubbish bins.

Excellent hosts close to town. Loved our time here.

Breakfast wasn't included. We didn't expect it.
This place was tired and needed considerable maintenance. Examples:
The light in the kitchenette often needed a nudge to relight it
The kitchenette sink tap waved around. It was loose.
You can't open the cutlery drawer very far because it catches on the adjacent folding door.
The lock on the door didn't look like it would work. We were not provided with a key but, as the property was quite secluded, this insecurity didn't worry us.
The plug in the bathroom basin either prevented the water from draining or didn't contain the water.
The half-flush on the toilet didn't work. Fortunately the full flush did!
The kitchenette, while quaint & provided the essential facilities, was very awkward to use. For example, as there's very little bench space, you have to place the heavy kettle or the fill-in sink top insert onto the floor to make room for plates or other items. A large 4-slice toaster is provided which, while unnecessary for a two-person studio, occupied most of the scarce bench space! The one plug-point was dangerously hard to reach, which was required in order to connect the kettle or the toaster or the microwave oven.
Wifi was provided but didn't work because of a very weak signal level.
The price was $230 per night. At this price, we expected 4* level of accommodation. In our view, given its ordinary facilities and poor state of maintenance, a reasonable price would have been $120 per night.

Super friendly host made us feel so welcome. Everything was presented with such care.
Due to potential adverse weather we were offered to stay in an alternative unit to the summerhouse but we opted to stay and we’re glad that we did. We had a nice weather day and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool, which was really nice.
Just the weather

The accommodation was private, peaceful and an oasis in a wonderful garden setting. It reminded us of an escape in a large English estate. It was comfortable and cosy. The ideal location for a restful get away
We weren't able to stay longer!

Walking distance to everything- we only used the car to go home to Christchurch! Beautiful linens, a quiet location and manicured garden- wow!

In the end we did not stay in the Summerhouse as Anne kindly upgraded us to the cottage at no extra expense as the weather was forecast to be a bit unsettled Therefore this review applies to the cottage.

Private and everything we needed including the ensuite bathroom and kitchenette. Welcoming and friendly hosts. The Summer house was quaint and a lot of planning and thought around the decor and facilities had gone into making this experience very relaxing and enjoyable. - Thank you Anne & Jack :)
Didn't like the cobwebs and spiders inside the summerhouse on our arrival. A little bit of maintenance & cleaning on the Summerhouse would enhance this immensely.
