About this house rental
Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area has a game table with board games available, a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, high-speed WiFi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!
There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai or at the living room game table.
My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).
Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.

We really enjoyed our stay in the beautiful home. The kitchen and view were sensing and extremely well equipped with everything we could need. So much attention to detail to make a comfortable stay.

The house was charming. The screen porch was a great place to hang out and relax.

It was a lovely house to spend nearly 2 weeks in. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We picked lots of fruit from the property, lounged on the lanai, and had fun watching the planes and geckos eating insects. The large yard was very nice to have young children use up some energy.
The proximity to the downtown and beaches, while still being 'out of town,' was excellent.

The house was charming place to stay with lots of space, beautiful deck with views and a birdwatcher's delight. It was out of the way, but close to town and right up the road were waterfalls. Very peaceful and clean.

Reviewer Comments:
We enjoyed staying in this plantation home. The location in Hilo was close to everything. It was clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies. The beds were comfortable. It was clean, except for a huge ant problem in the second bath that made it almost unusable. We did understand that bugs are part of that environment. We really enjoyed the huge lanai and spent a lot of time there. The property was large and enjoyable to walk around. The cleaning people showed up early, well before our check out time and asked them to return later. They assumed that they could hang out on the lanai til then, however the screen door was locked. They then sat on the front steps for awhile. We assume this was a miscommunication but still inappropriate.

The four of us LOVED the Hilo home. I went into the backyard & picked an orange 🍊 off the tree & two ripe lemons from underneath the tree. The beds were clean & comfortable. No A/C, No problem really! The climate in Hilo is very nice & perfect for open windows. The house is about 3 minutes from Downtown Hilo. Don’t stay in a hotel. Stay at the Hilo House.

We just wrapped up our wedding and wanted a few quiet days with family to unwind from all the festivities. This house was unique, large enough for our family of 5 adults & 2 kids, great views and a bit quirky/historical in All the best ways.
My only critique is that while there are lots of eating tables in different areas, there isn’t one big enough for everyone to sit at if you have a group bigger than 4.

I can’t say enough about the amazing plantation house! Our daughter and her family joined us for part of our stay. We spent evenings in the large screened in porch, enjoying the skies and all the fun night sounds. Even the frogs😉 loved the little black and white cat that visited us daily! The location was ideal for us as well. Able to drive to the volcano park easily. And along to coast to Waimea
We would definitely recommend My Hilo House!

We loved staying at this lovely vacation home. It was clean, comfortable and cozy! So much Hilo charm. Huge space, especially loved the wrap around screened-in porch. We hope to return in the future.
4.8
A very spacious plantation house with character and charm. Well-equipped kitchen with lots of prep space. Little bit of noise from traffic on the road, but otherwise lovely and quiet. Pleasant outdoor lanai to enjoy the lush gardens.
Minor suggestions: the grill could use a clean and some paintwork needs to be done in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Overall, a great place to stay on the outskirts of Hilo with a view of the harbor.

My wife, two sons, & their wives spent a wonderful 8 nights over Thanksgiving at My Hilo Home. The property was better than described, within walking distance of downtown Hilo. The 1926-built home has a gigantic front lawn and a screened-in gigantic patio with a view of Hilo Bay. Kitchen has all the pots, pans, etc you will need for any meals you decide to cook while you are staying....also a gas grill in a covered gazebo just off of the kitchen. Property was clean, well-maintained, & a fun place to stay. Had a question on keys that was answered quickly by the owner. I highly recommend this place for anyone spending some time in Hilo. As far as dining....read and follow Yelp reviews.

Reviewer Comments:
I stayed here for 4 nights during September whilst visiting the East of the island including Hilo and The Volcanoes National Park along with my wife and son and we all loved the place. The house is full of history and interest with its large open and airy rooms, tall ceilings and huge veranda and we really enjoyed staying here. The kitchen is huge and well stocked (though it takes a while to work out where everything is with so many cupboards). The main living room is huge and wonderful to spend an evening in and the bedrooms are large and all the beds we used were really comfortable. There is no air con in this house and getting home each evening the place was warm but we found that by opening windows and doors and turning on the ceiling fans the place quickly cooled down and was a very pleasent place to be each evening. We loved the garden, the views from the property and watching all the local wildlife and whilst the frogs were pretty noisy each evening we quickly got used to it and we all slept well each night. It was a pleasure dealing with Saltwater who have made the whole process very easy so thank you for that. All in all it has been a great experience to spend a few days at this lovely property and my family and I would thoroughly recommend a stay here if ever you come to East Hawai’i.Thank you.

Our family enjoyed the comfort and spaciousness of the home, especially the screened in porch. We spent our time between the porch and the kitchen when we were home. The reservation staff is very attentive and promptly responded to me when I reached out. Thank you, Kekela!!
Everyone, especially my granddaughters, loved Betty, the cat. She is the sweetest. Enjoyed the various fruits on the property and occasional romps of the wild boar family. very relaxing home after daily beach time and sight seeing.

Our stay at "My Hilo Home" was very pleasant and fulfilled all our expectations. The home is very spacious and comfortable. The seven of us had ample room. We enjoyed the well-lighted and well-appointed kitchen which had all that we needed to prepare meals. The covered and screened deck was a favorite place for the family to have our meals. We definitely recommend this conveniently located home as a wonderful Hawaiian rental.

Most of the time pictures on VRBO make the house look bigger than it actually is...not the case here! This place is great! Wonderful kitchen with fantastic view, awesome screened in porch and comfortable beds! Easy access to Hilo town and just a 2 mile run up to Rainbow Falls. We had such a relaxing time! Note: there is a really sweet kitty who apparently is not supposed to be fed but sure is a lover!

Beautiful place to stay.

Lots of room to spread out. We loved the Lanai💕

House was clean and well stocked but yard was overgrown almost to the knees. We had 4 children under 12 that could not play outside. Called the property manager who said she’ll request yard work but no one came. Our stay was for one week.

Overall we really enjoyed our trip to Hawaii, but we spent most of our time away from the house. Upon arrival, it was very warm inside, even with all of the windows open and fans running; after the first day, the weather cooled off a bit and got cloudier, which seemed to help with the indoor temperature for the rest of our stay. While some may very much enjoy the charm/rustic nature of this house, it wasn't exactly what we were expecting - the frogs at night were extremely loud, we dealt with flying termites and ants in the bedrooms and kitchens, and we encountered multiple geckos in the kitchen, which left their droppings on various surfaces (and if not cleaned up promptly, a stream of ants would soon be seen). A cat also came by every time we ate a meal in the home, which was a bit of a nuisance. On the plus side, it was located very close to downtown Hilo and Rainbow Falls, and it was about a 45 minute drive to Volcanoes National Park (which was awesome!). Overall it wasn't a great fit for us, and we would not stay again. However, if you're into more of a camping/rustic feel, I think you'd be quite satisfied.

We loved My Hilo home. It was very convenient located. My family and I loved to take breakfast at the kitchen nook and diners in the screen porch. It was truly a pleasure to be there. Thank you.

Our family and us all traveled from Texas to Hawaii to celebrate our wedding. This house was perfect for our needs and allowed us to all stay in one location together. We loved the fact the house had alot of charm and enjoyed the porch and views. We had to contact the house management a couple of times and they were easy to get ahold of and promply addressed our needs. They were very personable as well. Thank you for such a great experience.

This is our second time staying at My Hilo Home. It's one of our favorite places on the Big Island. It's secluded and quiet but very close to town. The house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need for a wonderful stay in one of the best cities Hawaii has to offer. Would definitely recommend!

Nice place but more essentials would be nice ie. Toilet paper, condiments, foil and the bbq was filthy and wouldn't heat up.

The rental property in a perfect location that was close to everything in town. The house had a lot of character and was very charming. It felt almost secluded with the location that it was in. Neighbors weren't to close and it was quiet. The only time we needed to contact the property manager for an issue she was on top of it and continued to make our stay very comfortable.

Very pleasant house, withe large rooms, with nice furniture.
The kitchen is a bit old and there are only 2 restrooms in the bathrooms, for 8 person's it's not enough.

We appreciated staying at My Home in Hilo. Everything about it was excellent but especially the veranda and the kitchen. The location and ambiance of the space was perfect. So appreciated the super responsiveness of the management company. We have already recommended this space to others who we know visit the Big Island...and look forward to our own return.

This home was just what we were looking for, clean, very comfortable and in a great location. It had a great porch and plenty of space. We will be sure to visit again.

The house is truly remarkable - a historic gem that doesn't disappoint. The large kitchen has a wonderful view and you can spend a lot of time on the Lanai and soak in both old and new. Great place with lots of room and tons and charm!

This was such a great property. Our favorite part was the huge screened patio. The kitchen was perfect for our needs. We stayed their with our two adult children, two parents, and one boyfriend. We never felt crowded and all slept really well. Location is perfect. Just a few minutes from town but had a country feel bing out on a private farm road.
