The heating was too high in the house.

Chris was a really good host, and extremely welcoming. The room in this lovely timber home was large and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with loads of hot water, though would benefit from the refurbishment they are planning, in particular removing the carpet. We had one night here to break up the number of hours driving on our road trip around New Zealand so it was a convenient stop-off outside of Dargaville.
We went to Dargaville for supper and were very thankful we hadn't stayed there as the town is sadly very run down. This property is definitely a better option. Given it is a timber house it makes a lot of noise as it contracts in the night, which when topped off with pinecones (?) or other tree bits and pieces falling on the roof made for disturbed sleep. Unfortunately, the dogs barked and bickered incessantly while we were there which we found annoying. Breakfast, in comparison to what we were graced with throughout the rest of our 4-week trip, was average. Perhaps it is the optics or we expect too much but we found the large containers of cereal, microwaved eggs, and instant coffee a little disappointing. Chris was such a nice chap. Very difficult to give feedback directly to your host and, typically English, we said we had a good night and gracefully thanked Chris for the breakfast. Reviews are about sharing our perspective to other travellers, who may of course be very happy with what was on offer. We hope they are able to get the renovation they are looking forward to and with a few easy adjustments would make this a place we would want to stop off at again.

Great hosts and helpful. Location just outside town but wonderful property. Lovely breakfast.

Chris was lovely and a great host. Loved the pool area, and view. Room was very comfy - we essentially were just staying for a rest and the bed was great.
The house does make quite a lot of noise. Not for you if your a light sleeper

Breakfast was delicious and plenty of it. Room was nice and airy with comfy bed. If you are a pet lover like us, it was great to have these animals around. They remained in the main house, so were not in the guest room.
Perhaps if breakfast spreads were in a smaller plate/container, rather than in the original tub or jar, so that it is easier to use and looks fresher.

A very comfortable room in a great location with lovely views of the river. Chris & Roxanne we’re excellent hosts & couldn’t do enough for me. Fabulous breakfasts & the offer for me to eat with them in the evenings if I wished was very much appreciated (although I didn’t need to take up the offer). having a hot tub & pool available to use at any time was an added bonus.
it was a little hard to find with no sign on the road and only the house number to go by - I was very glad I had sat nav. A little bedside table would be a useful addition

Comfortable and very cosy private guest room under the rooftop; amazing fried breakfast accompanied by a good chat with the lovely owner :)

The B&B is a little bit outside of Dargaville and offers a very nice view over the Wairoa River. The host was very courteous and he cooked nice breakfast for us in the morning and we got nice information about New Zealand. The room was spacious for two persons. Large TV and internet connection was good.
The house was quite noisy (wooden house) and the barking of the dogs in the night was a little bit annoying.

Beautiful setting overlooking stunning landscape. Comfortable bed and delicious cooked breakfast.
Ear plugs are needed if you are a light sleeper as this beautiful timber home contracts and expands during the night.

Located on a hill the house has an amazing “log cabin” interior and our room was on the upper floor, overlooking the pool and spa and beautiful garden. Our room was spacious and cosy and the bed was amazing and very comfortable. Our hosts, Chris and Roxanne, were extremely kind, helpful and interested in our holiday, offering great advice on places not to miss and best roads to avoid delays etc. The food is great too and we enjoyed a hot cooked breakfast. A great place to stay!

The tranquil environment, good breakfast. Comfortable firm bed.
Helpful host Chris.
The pet dog barked nonstop when owner was absent. Quite some banging noises on roof structure?
Suggest that small fridge be moved to outside the room or in the bathroom as the noise was quite loud when it started the motor every tens of minutes.
Would appreciate a signpost of the B&B at the path entrance.

The room was clean and tidy and well presented.
On the first night we were met outside and told that he was going out to a rugby match. We were shown the room very quickly and he said the wife is out and I'm going out. Just lock your door when you go, and off he went.
The bed was very hard.
Were kept awake with the cracking of the lockwood. It was horrific and could not sleep. Then in the morning the hosts were up early and slamming doors and cupboards. We ate breakfast with the host at the other side of the bench and taking away each item as we had used it. He had already told us he was going to a rugby match. We felt like we got shoved out the door.

A great place to be and we enjoyed our stay. Room was magnificent and loved the choice of channels on a very modern TV. There were some odd bangs and noises in the night that we thought may be tree detritus or infrastructure expansion, but in hindsight maybe not? Thought to mention it next day but didn't like to think it may be seen as a criticism. However, we should have mentioned it. Breakfast was great. Enjoyed Chris's cooked. Our only regret is that we didn't do the garden tour! Would certainly recommend Norfolk Gardens to friends.
A bigger road number sign would be good. We went right past first time without spotting it.

Very comfortable bed and clean room. Fantastic breakfast! We were totally spoilt.
The swimming pool and spa was amazing and the hosts so kind and great to talk to. Even posted me a charger we accidentally left behind.
Only thing was that the room was rather warm as no air conditioning and the fan made some noise. However not helped by the fact that the weather was especially warm and humid. Overall a great place to stay.
