About this house rental
** Check out the Playhouse on the Netflix series The World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals. It's included in the Gourmet Stays episode.**
The Playhouse is the PERFECT venue to house friends and families of brides and grooms. Unfortunately WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE WEDDINGS.
Featured in Berkshire and Boston Magazines, #1 on VRBO in the Berkshires.
Built by Westinghouse and then part of a Vanderbilt Estate, and the first property in the world to be powered by AC electricity, The Playhouse is a renovated iconic Berkshires property that once served as a theater space for America's greatest innovators, with visitors from President McKinley, to Nikola Tesla and Lord Kelvin, and is now hung with fine art, and includes an in-house yoga studio, two kitchens, seven sleeping areas and five bathrooms; amenities include lakefront access (an 8 min walk), and the best Berkshire views. Come relax at this historic home under 25' cathedral ceilings, connect with friends and entertain inside, or on the Victorian-style courtyard.
We are close to multiple ski resorts:
Bousquet 11 min
Butternut 20 min
Catamount 30 min
Jiminy Peak 35 min
Feel good about your stay: all electricity comes from our rooftop solar panels. We reduce plastic waste by using eco-friendly soaps and cleaning products (with reusable containers).
One 84" smart TV and (2) 60" screens for family movie viewing (Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, etc). As we encourage unplugging, the house does not have cable tv.
Nearby: Wyndhurst Manor and Club (Golf and Spa), Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Company, The Mount and Jacob's Pillow (we LOVE Jacob's Pillow) performances are all within a few minutes of this centrally located property on the Lee/Lenox border. Wow! My partner and I hosted her sister’s bachelorette party here and had such a blast! What an incredible home. The open floor plan was the perfect space for our large group to gather. Many wonderful memories were made at The Playhouse!

What a lovely space to stay and have a family reunion! Soo many lovely amenities in the house and the location is amazing.
Hosts were extremely responsive. I’d give the entire experience a 10 out of five 😊
My entire family asked to do it again next year👍

My family and extended family (13 in all, ranging from 8 to 80+) gathered to celebrate a milestone birthday for a week. It's a truly beautiful place, with lots of room for all (we even fit 13 at the dining room table without squeezing) right in the heart of the Berkshires.

We stayed at the Playhouse in the days leading up to our wedding (at the Mount) and used the space for prep the morning of as well. The space is huge with beautiful high ceilings and a lot of history. Seems like it would be a great space for a large family reunion or other get together as well. Super convenient location with a lot of activities.
Hosts were very easy to reach and responsive when we had an issue with a package delivery to the wrong location. No complaints at all and an absolutely wonderful property in a gorgeous location. Highly recommend!

We spent a weekend at the playhouse for my sister in law’s bachelorette and it was absolutely amazing! The house is huge, gorgeous and was perfect for our group of 10 girls. Daniel was communicative and responsive when we had questions during our stay. The house was stocked with everything we could need. Clean bathrooms, comfortable bedrooms and so much more!! I would definitely stay at the Playhouse again

We had the most SPACE ever for our winter Berkshire stay. Room enough for a yoga class of 11. Sleeping spaces are separated and unique. The historic property is clean and modern - pristine! Cool artwork, huge windows, fun games, books all found here. Thanks to our host Daniel and staff for an excellent stay!

This is a beautiful and comfortable (and very spacious) house. It was the perfect spot for our core group (7 people) and extended group ~20 people for Christmas Eve celebration. The host and property manager are genuinely kind, accommodating, and very responsive. Truly a great rental.

It was a rainy weekend, so we mostly stayed in the building, taking advantage of the 'game room' downstairs.
We had one minor issue with the oven, which the local manager took care of promptly.

Even though it rained the whole weekend, we couldn’t ask for a better place to stay at. The gourmet kitchen had everything we could need and more. We used yoga studio for yoga, sound baths and meditation. The house was spacious and its rustic, yet modern vibe, together with art pieces displayed throughout, made it feel so special! Thank you Daniel and Ashley for being patient with me and helping me exceed expectations of all guests that joined me for a wellness retreat at your place. Everyone was comfortable, relaxed, with plenty of privacy if needed. We all can’t wait to be back!

It was a delight to stay at this house that was fully equipped with all kitchen items for great meals and great light for spending time with family in the large living room. The art pieces in the house gave the place a unique feel, and the open area from kitchen to living/dining area made it wonderful for connecting with others.
Rooms were well sized and had comfortable beds. The AC control is a bit quirky, but one can get a knack for how to control the different zones of the house.
Location is great - nearby one of the best ice cream places in the US, close to Tanglewood, Jacob’s pillow, Shakespeare theater, zip lining in Catamount, and boutiques in Lenox.
Thank you for a lovely vacation with family!

This property is very clean and has a great kitchen (with everything you could possibly need) for cooking and a huge table for dining with friends. The property owner was extremely responsive and helpful.
The sleeping arrangements are as follows:
1 primary bedroom (queen-sized bed) with ensuite bathroom which has a bathtub (in the bedroom) but no shower. This bedroom is in a 3rd floor loft space and is the most private.
On the main floor there is:
1 bedroom (queen-sized bed) off the kitchen uses shower and bathroom across the kitchen.
1 bedroom with 2 twin beds (which can be pushed together to make a king-bed - "mattress bridge" and additional sheets provided).
1 bedroom (queen-sized bed)
The last 2 bedrooms share a bathroom with a small shower.
Downstairs there is:
1 bedroom with a full or queen sized bed which has a large bathroom with a shower next to it.
Also downstairs is a large "yoga room" with several air mattresses next to one another along with a bathroom with a shower.
Any other beds are either pull-out couches or air mattresses.
Once we sorted out where everyone in our group was sleeping, we had a great stay and enjoyed the property very much!

The openness and unique design of this historic home provided a great setting for our group get-together and celebration. The bathrooms were clean, and there were plenty of beds, towels and service wear. The welcome flowers and gifts were a nice, appreciated touch. And any questions while on property were answered quickly and thoroughly.

Cannot say enough good things about The Playhouse! The owner and property manager were accommodating and responsive, the house is well-appointed with everything you could need for your stay there, and my group felt right at home! Plenty of space for all of us, and plenty of things for all ages to do there.

We had a msot wonderful stay at the Playhouse. From start to finish, from going through the reservation process to checking out after our stay, it was smooth and pleasant experience. Communications with Ashley was easy and immensely helpful. Daniel's details on the house/rules/expectations made our entire experience a very positive one. Sound system, TV, high ceiling, flow of space, amenities, all made our stay very comfortable. I would highly recommend this place.

This is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind property. We loved it as we did sharing it with family and friends. We hired a superb local chef who prepared dinner for us one night. The art, furnishings, and views were very nice. It was terrific to work with the owner and manager. We look forward to returning. Thank you!

This is a fantastic property! We hosted my hubby’s 40th with both of our families. It was such a great place to gather everyone and spend quality time… game night, telling stories by the fire pit while making s’mores, and cooking together. The layout is perfect. The kids had a blast in the game room downstairs! We had dinner catered on Sat night and cooked on Sunday in the amazing kitchen. The owners were very responsive and welcoming. I’d highly recommend. Thank you for allowing us to create wonderful memories with our family!!

For 38 years, the East and West Coast branches of our families have shared Thanksgiving week together. We have rented numerous homes in New England. The PlayHouse is absolutely the best, and the new owners have made it even better. The main kitchen is stocked with everything you might need, the showers are wonderful, there are many flexible gathering places, plus sleeping arrangements to allow privacy and fun for adults and teens/children. There are extra bedding, towels and other supplies -- unheard of in most houses. A delightful welcome basket is provided. There is plenty of parking. Any questions are answered almost immediately. It is a historical treasure filled with modern conveniences, and while the views are open, inside is filled with warm spaces for your family to share or spend in solitude. We absolutely love the PlayHouse and look forward to spending more holidays here.

There is a lot of wow factor in this home!!! It was perfect for our group, the grandkids got to run around with no worries of them getting into trouble!!! 1st night I made dinner and must say the kitchen is very well equipped . The beds are really comfortable (My only wish is that there are king size beds, my husband is built like a football player) Next night Heirloom fire catered dinner... the whole experience was out of this world!!!
Sunday had lunch at 51 Tavern... another amazing experience, went to High Lawn for snacks.... Love the gift basket ( The Chocolate is to die for!!!)
Thank You Thank You Thank You... looking forward to visiting in the warmer weather!!!

We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday with family and it couldn't have been a more perfect home. There was plenty of space for everyone to interact in the common living areas, and the kitchen was well stocked with anything you would need for cooking in. It was in a great location with convenient access to the cute towns of Great Barrington and Lenox. Also right up the street from a great ice-cream farm (Highlawn). Interaction with the owner and property manager was always very responsive. I recommend for larger family gatherings as there was plenty of space to accommodate our party of 14.

We came here to do yoga, eat good food, and relax amidst the demands of everyday life. This was my second time bringing a group to this space. It’s truly a special property that I feel very connected to. Beautiful, good energy. The kitchen is amazing If cooking is your thing! We took a nice walk to the lake, I recommend. We already booked for next year!
