Puerto Alto is in a crazy location (as the name suggests): quite high in place on the mountain curve, alongside the tree tops and with an amazing view on the coast line.
There's lockers in the rooms and mosquito nets on the beds.
The surroundings of the hostel itself are quite beautiful, it's worth it taking them a peek.
I would say this is a place to stay if you plan to enjoy it for itself, or if there's something closeby you plan to visit, rather than if you just need somewhere to stay for exploring the coast between Tayrona and Palomino.
Very important: REACHING THE HOSTAL IS HARD, specially if you have luggage, children or someone who's generally physically unprepared. The way up is EXTREMELY steep and it can only be done by walking or by mototaxi (if you can find one). I can't stress this enough, this info should be very visible to people before booking.
The hostel has a techno vibe, with colored strong lights lighting the place and techno music playing somewhat loud in the common areas in the evening, so even though you are surrounded by wild nature you cannot really enjoy this feeling properly at this time.
I found the food and drinks quite pricy (clearly made for western standarts) and when I stayed there loud constructions were starting quite early in the morning.

Puerto alto offer a great view, a swimming pool who is great.
The price are really high for the services who are offers, the staff really don’t fit with our expectations.

I didn't have a chance to experience the property. I hiked all the way up in mad heat so they can say the reservation is cancelled because of some party, while on booking it was still confirmed.
4.5
It had an amazing view, free water and a pool.
Our room was beautiful and the experience here was unforgettable.
Definetly 100% worth it
The walking up is long, dont underestimate it

Literally paradise. Ocean breeze blowing up the mountain through the jungle... was getting high just breathing. Having a dip in the pool after scaling the driveway is a great representation of pain/pleasure. Was caught off guard by how amazing the food was from their simple kitchen. Planned to stay there 2 nights. Ended up staying 2 weeks visting the all the amazing spots along the top of Colombia. Budget friendly launch pad to visit Palomino hippy party town, crash after El Rio parties, Santa Marta for supplies, Punta Gallinas for where the sea meets the desert, Tayrona National Park for breathtaking beaches.
Hike up the driveway was not for the faint of heart. When they say its not suitable for people who are not fit, they are not joking. The struggle is worth it... but i took every opportunity to ride on the back of a motorcycle up and down. Worth the 12000cop. Lots of bugs and animals just roaming around so not suitable if that's not cool with you. Internet sometimes goes down in the entire area so not an issue with the hostel, but the infrustructure in the town.

The view of the sea
It’s literally at the top of a mountain. You will spend about 40 minutes, and you will have to walk or pay for a motorbike that can be dangerous. So I don’t recommend this place.

The property has the best view of the Atlantic Ocean coastline in all of Santa Marta, an amazing pool, super friendly staff, and delicious chicken burgers

Great staff, best sunset view you'll ever see

This was one of the best Hostels we've been to in Colombia, absolute incredible view and really cool vibe up there. The whole team of the hostel is super friendly and we loved to hang out with them :)

The hotel's view is amazing and the staff is really nice.
Getting to the hotel is very difficult is on a very high mountain and you have to walk 15 minutes up. You can also get a motorcycle but it is very tilted. Also, the bathrooms are ecological, not very clean, and do not have privacy. Was uncomfortable using the bathroom.

The view was amazing and you can watch the great sunset. Also the staff is really friendly.
The way up to the hostel was to steep and a bit dangerous. Also the food was not that good and costs a lot of time to prepare. I can’t recommend this hostel if I’m honest.

The staff were really nice and helpful and the food being made was amazing but a bit expensive for us . we had a private room with an amazing view, the room was basic and further away from the main hostel but nice and in nature, the cat joined us in the night! the pool was amazing with a view of the beach and other areas you can chill, lots of music at night.
the walk to the room was a bit long and the walk up there is crazy! would Reccomend a bike but we did walk
2.5
Amazing view and a nice pool up the mountains. The food was good!
There were construction works and debris everywhere. Didn’t receive any basic info/guidance at check in. Felt like we were disturbing them with our stay. Lots of noise all day. No vibe at all.
4.5
We stayed in the basic double which has the most incredible view, you have a completely unobstructed view from bed! Everything we ate from the hostel was soo delicious! the walk up to the hostel is gruelling but definitely worth it for the view, it is a hidden gem
Our room lacked some privacy as there are curtains for doors and they don’t quite cover everything
4.0
Stunning place with an amazing pool, a great retreat for a max of 2-3 days as there is nothing around
When people say that the road up to the hostel is steep, believe them.. definitely take the motor taxi!! Main downside of the Hostel is no communal kitchen

The view is magical
The staff is really cool
The food it s very good
Good vibe no crazy loud music

All good

The view is incredible and it is all nature and has a very hipster/alternative feeling, but you have to go up quite a way
I gave one of the guys my clothes for washing and they confused bleaching agent with detergent, so the clothes were damages. I guess this can happen but the communication afterwards of how to deal with the problem was not very good and their offer was far under the value.

Apart from the things stated below Puerto Alto is a lovely location, the lounge area is really cool and the people working there were also really nice
Be careful! This is only for the tougher ones!
We stayed two nights in Puerto Alto and had some serious struggle with the huts, beds and matresses. Though we were aware of the ongoing rain season we didn't expect sleeping there to be that gruesome. There were so many holes in the roofs and so many mouldy matresses that 'resting' there had nothing to do with finding some 'rest'. Curiousity driven we checked a few of the other huts out and had comfirmed that ours was just like the others.
Not sure wether they've committed to any repairs by now, so keep an eye on the date(:

I loved the View! Absolutely spectacular! The pool was very refreshing and clean. The view from the bunk bed was stunning!
It was a little bit difficult to enjoy the sleep because each move, each step was moving the bed at some point. But I slept pretty well the second night.

incredible view and hostel. however the walk up there is extremely challenging but there is an option to get moto taxi with your bags so definitely do that! there were no other guests staying at the hostel however there were about 15 staff working. all lovely. our room view was amazing
the hike up was too hard and there was no atmosphere because no guests

Really good vibes in the hostel! The staff is friendly hand helpful. The hostel with the best view of the Caribbean coast! Plus, they have really good meals available in the restaurant. Recommended.
Keep in mind, you have to do a little hike to reach the hostel and the path is very stiff.
