About this house rental
Perfect Mix of Old and New
Welcome to your private retreat on Cape Cod, just minutes from the beach on the north side of the Old Kings Highway, (Route 6A), on the bay side of the Cape. Sitting on the edge of West Barnstable, Goodspeed House is a recently renovated 1810 Queen Anne Victorian, and the result is a perfect mix of old and new, melding historical architecture with modern fixtures. Set on a picturesque acre, lush English perennial gardens create an enchanting New England setting, reminiscent of Old Cape Cod. The established gardens make it feel tucked away from it all, while still being located near the sea and all of Cape Cod's attractions.
Enjoy a vacation filled with outside living. Go 4-wheeling on nearby Sandy Neck Beach. Dine in the best of Cape Cod's restaurants nearby. Hike the nearby conservation trails or take in art, theater, local gift shops. Or stay home and grill on the BBQ and dine alfresco. Recline in the hammock. Feel the breeze in your hair as you ride the swing. Enjoy cocktails and relax in the jacuzzi at the end of the day. Surround yourself with sun and shade, and enjoy the comfort of this very special place with spaces for everyone to chill in this relaxed country setting.
Love the Beach?
Goodspeed House is a mere 7 minutes by car (2 miles) to famous Sandy Neck beach, making beach days a snap. Sandy Neck, one of the longest beaches on Cape Cod, is a classic barrier beach that stretches for 6 miles along Cape Cod Bay. It is a special place with distant views that go on forever of Cape Cod Bay. And the Neck's adjoining conservation area is a scenic spot to hike, fish and bird watch.
Beach Day, Everyday!
Our included beach pass allows you to spend a relaxing, fun-filled, sunny day at any one of 14 splendid beaches covering an expanse of over 100 miles in the Town of Barnstable. Afterwards, return to Goodspeed House and rinse off in the outdoor shower.
Prepare to Enjoy Lazy Days Ahead
Stroll through the lovely gardens. Gather on the peaceful wrap-around screened-in front porch. Stretch out in the yard on sun-loungers and dream away the day. Luxuriate and soak away your cares in the Jacuzzi hot tub (when weather allows) amidst an intoxicating symphony of perennial blossoms. Grill some freshly caught fish on the outdoor BBQ. Enjoy good conversation and grill s'mores in the firepit. Select a book from the library and pass the time away on one of several inviting Adirondack chairs. Or curl up by the fire in the guest living room on cooler evenings to finish your book. Goodspeed House offers plenty of spots for everyone to enjoy downtime.

The home abuts acres of conservation land offering privacy. Goodspeed House has comfortably elegant rooms featuring antiques with a mix of Cape Cod casual chic furniture and decor. This light and lovely home has all the warmth you'd expect from its heritage – wide pine floors, ship's captain staircase, eccentric ceiling angles, curving hallways and an inviting wrap-around porch, where you can start your day with morning coffee, or retreat to in the afternoon and evening for drinks and interesting conversation.
The dining room is sunny and welcoming and has seating for 8-10 people. The exterior has the must-have outdoor shower, and when weather permits, use of a Jacuzzi hot tub to relax and unwind after a long day at the beach.

About West Barnstable
Like no other village on the Cape, West Barnstable is defined by its history and geography — both of which are evident as you approach this quaint village from the west. Route 6A, designated one of the 10 outstanding scenic byways in America, gracefully winds its way along the northern edge of the Cape. Stately elms and maples line the route forming, in spring and summer, a lush canopy over this former stagecoach path. In the fall, the canopy changes to a blaze of harvest colors.
West Barnstable is home to the amazing Old Village Store, with the best sandwiches around, along with the West Barnstable Train Station & Museum, where you can hop onto an excursion aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad. At Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, you can explore gentle trails of sandy beaches, butterfly-filled meadows, woodland trails, farm animals and expansive tidal flats with million dollar views of Barnstable Harbor and the dunes of Sandy Neck barrier beach. There are kayak tours, boat cruises, or family nature programs available here, as well.
Within a 2 minute drive is Luke's Love: A Boundless Playground located within the Lombard Field Recreational Area. Fenced in with access for all abilities, the playground is set in a rural setting with beautiful gardens. West Barnstable Pet and Supply is located across the street with live animals, as well as the Whelden library.
You'll Love the Charm of Old Cape Cod
Ideal for small retreats, family vacations, or a Cape Cod getaway with friends, Goodspeed House is perfect for a summer of relaxation, adventure or any combination of both. With its colorful gardens, lush green lawns, unique architecture, clean and fresh decor, proximity to beaches and restaurants, and the charm of the surrounding village of West Barnstable, the location retains the warmth of Old Cape Cod. And if you're looking to experience a place with a sense of history, then look no further! We invite you to experience relaxing coastal elegance at this very special place by the sea.

The property is a beautiful, updated, historic house and was perfect for our family (ages 2-65 + a dog). The kitchen is large and well equipped. The grounds are gorgeous. The manager of the property is very helpful responding immediately with beach and restaurant recommendations also information about crib rentals. The host thought of everything to make our stay at the Cape fun including books, games, and everything for a day at the beach. We are already planning a trip for next year!

We enjoyed a wonderful week at Goodspeed House. The house was very inviting with beautiful gardens and unique but lovely decor. Pet friendly made it a big plus for us. The four bedrooms and multiple baths/showers were very convenient for our family of five. We took advantage of the beach pass during most days and at sunsets. The house came with outdoor games like croquet and cornhole as well as board games and plenty of books to enjoy on non-beach days. We liked that there was a screen porch, outdoor patios, and comfortable living room, so we could all be together or have some privacy. I highly recommend spending a vacation at Goodspeed House.

We had a wonderful time at the property with grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles and children. It was nice not to have TVs around so that conversation was what carried us through the week. Plenty of room for people to escape if they needed to and lots of areas to relax

We are three couples and this home was perfect for us! We did not use the 4th bedroom so we each had our own bathroom and plenty of privacy. There is one bedroom on the main and the rest are upstairs. We did fine but the stairs are steep. The house was interesting, clean and very comfortable. The grounds well kept. We had a wonderful time.

We enjoyed our stay with extended family at this great house on Cape Cod. The house was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the screened in porch, fire pit, and the hot tub. Only downside was that it was on the main road and traffic noises at times were loud when we would have liked to be hanging out in the porch. I agree with other reviewer that there could have been more drinking glasses appropriate for a family.

A lovely, gracious and welcoming property with a true
New England seaside feel. All 6 adults - and our dog! - enjoyed our stay. The living room with its extensive and eclectic reading materials, the private spaces (and Wi-fi) for those who need to work, and the gathering spaces for meals and games, a campfire with s'mores, or a nap in the hammock all accommodated everyone's needs. The bedrooms offered comfortable beds and private updated bathrooms. And our dog enjoyed his special placemat and water bowl! There is every amenity for meal preparation, board or card games, or outdoor activities. Most amazing was the fact that although there is a beautiful portable TV and sound system available, it was not used one time by anyone in our family. Amazing! We'd give it 10 stars!!

A lovely week with family at this property. Excellent physical accommodation: historic and renovated, with air conditioning (which was a must with hot weather our week!). Tasteful and thought-out decor. Lovely kitchen and table area, well stocked. Large dining room table for food, and board games. Truly lovely yard, firepit. Beautiful screened patio to keep the insects out; this was a favorite location of several to relax. Very dog friendly. The host was highly responsive to any/all questions or issues that arose. Would definitely come back for another week!

We had never been to the Cape Cod area and went based on a friend's recommendation. We immediately booked this VRBO because it looked so beautiful. It did not disappoint. The house was exactly what we were hoping for. The inside and out alike were well kept, and we felt at home sitting in the back yard by the fire pit or around the dining table having dinner. The property managers were very fast to respond to any questions we had. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone heading to Cape Cod.

Wonderful trip with the kids. House was perfect.

The house was great and there is a lot of space for everyone. The front porch was very nice to hang out on. Very clean and spacious. I would suggest more drinkware as there seemed to be wine glasses but limited other glasses.

A gorgeous property!
Beautiful, stately home in quiet area very near beaches and shops. The house has plenty of gathering space to spread out but was big enough for our family of 9. Bedrooms were beautiful and bedding very comfortable and clean. We loved the details of this home, classic and simple but very well thought out. We’ll be back!!
