Nice little traditional and quirky pub a couple of miles outside of Holmfirth. Our room was very small and basic but it was warm and cosy with a comfy bed and perfectly fine for our overnight stay. Parking opposite was a nice bonus as you don't get that if staying in the centre of Holmfirth and have to park in one of the public car parks. A regular bus stops right outside and taxis are easy to get. We would definitely stay here again next time we're in the area (hopefully in the summer next time).
Room was tiny but that was fine for us. Tiny criticism - the lead from the kettle doesn't reach the plug socket so you have to put it on the floor to boil it

Location excellent, Good beer & food, welcoming host.
Being an old building some noise (creaks etc) and some road noise early morning but you can't move the road!

Friendly, good food and drink and comfortable.
I stayed in room 1 and the window provided no barrier to outside noise. However it’s not a busy area and didn’t bother me too much.

The location. The bed was very comfortable
The breakfast was average. Coffee wasn't great
6.0 / 10.0
Location, well cooked breakfast. Comfy bed.
Lady who was behind bar on arrival was very unwelcoming, didn't really speak just to ask for payment upfront which wasn't an issue. Showed us to the room & asked what brought us there. She couldn't have been less interested if she tried. We went down to the bar later that evening and nobody was in except the miserable bar woman. Another couple came for a drink but she made little effort to speak with them either although the younger bar man who came through, did chat with them (he knew them)until they finished their one drink & left. The bar lady came and sat on our side of the bar but again made no effort. I think she is in the wrong job! The room was quaint, but I don't think it had been dusted for a very long time. Even the kettle had thick dust all over it. My 'bath' towel was not much bigger than the hand towel. Thick cobwebs everywhere. I live in a conversion & know spiders are rife in old buildings but they were old webs. Wardrobe door opened every time you walked past it, handle missing off drawers.
Bed was comfy so slept well. Breakfast was well cooked & enjoyable. Same bar lady was serving breakfast...Still no interaction with any of the guests. The only time she half smiled was as we left and she said enjoy your day.
We enjoyed our trip away but I seriously think that bar woman needs to up her game as you can't attract more customers if the bar staff are miserable & don't interact with the few customers you do have on a weekend. We passed another pub just up the road and that was packed, maybe they get service with a smile in t9here! I've worked in hospitality all my life & I wouldn't have lasted long dishing out service like we received.

3 mature friends stayed here to attend a wedding nearby. Can't fault our stay. Staff were very helpful. We were given an information sheet when we arrived with every bit of information we could possibly need. Bar area was really nice. I didn't realise it was so closely connected to 'Last of the summer wine'. Breakfast was very good. I would definitely recommend.

This is a lovely old Inn with excellent food at a reasonable cost. Good selection of ale and wine. Has the added attraction of its connection with “Last of the Summer Wine”
No wardrobe in the bedroom due to lack of space.

The room was very spacious and clean, tea and coffee making facilities, towels provided and a shower couldn't fault it but the food was amazing the landlord and landlady very welcoming and friendly, the young waitress on our second night absolutely lovely. We would definitely stay again.
There was nothing to dislike.

The room was lovely, nice and clean. Plenty of tea/coffee etc. We stayed on a Friday night and we’re going to parkrun the next day. The owner kindly let us check out at 10.30 so we could return after parkrun for a shower. We ate there on the Friday and the food was amazing, especially the chips ❤️. On the Saturday morning they also made us some breakfast sandwiches to take to parkrun which was great. Lovely location.
The fan in the bathroom is extremely noisy, but nothing major.
