About this cabin rental
The best of both worlds! Planning on visiting Acadia National Park & looking for peace & quiet at the end of your day? Pond's Edge Camp completed renovations & expansion of our original 45 year old cabin in 2021 & are offering it for rent for the first time. Our chef's kitchen, spacious bathroom with shower, plus a custom designed outdoor shower are just a few of the many amenities we provide to our guests.
The original structure was built by a local craftsman who used handmade wooden pegs instead of nails or screws & no design plan other than the one in his head, when building the cabin.
Swimming & kayaking in the clear waters of Flanders Pond, with hands down the best view of Schoodic Mountain is one of the treats that can’t be adequately explained until you enjoy it yourself. Enjoy our natural granite fire pit while toasting your marshmallows.
Our rare, large one acre lakefront property offers all of the privacy you might require after navigating the crowds of Acadia National Park. Try & visit Schoodic Point & Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge as well.
If you are interested in hiking less crowded trails, we are surrounded by almost 14,000 acres of protected lands & are minutes from the Sunrise Trail, Donnell Pond Public Reserve Lands, Schoodic & Black Mountain trails which offer stunning views of Mount Desert Island & Cadillac Mountain, Frenchmen Bay Conservancy trails, & much more! If you hike Schoodic Mountain, it offers amazing views of Flanders Pond & you can try & spot camp from up top!
Watch loons cavort & listen to their haunting calls. Bald eagles are frequent visitors. Stargazing is absolutely stunning.
We are not able to offer WiFi at this time, but most visitors can access the internet via their cell phones. We have a TV with built in DVD player & sound bar, along with a great library of movies & books for your enjoyment. We also have a great selection of board games! Minimum 5 night rental.

Second year in a row and it was just as peaceful and beautiful as last. From the Loons to the bald Eagles, to the nightly fires. This place is a great way to shutoff all the craziness going on in the world. Our host Nicole was extremely responsive, and a great host! 5 Stars!

This was the perfect place for a much needed relaxing getaway! The views were spectacular and the grounds felt secluded. We loved everything about it. We brought our standup paddle boards, but it was great to have the kayaks as an option if we wanted them. The pond was extremely quiet all week and it basically felt like we had the entire thing to ourselves. We had enough cell service to answer a few emails here and there, but not enough to actually work which allowed us to really shut down for the week. Incredible stay - thanks Nicole!

The property is peaceful and well maintained. Beautiful home. The only drawback for us was very spotty WiFi reception in case of emergency or if you wanted to listen to a podcast etc or book it was a bit difficult. It would be nice to have a Roku streaming service for rainy days (we had a few) just to maybe watch TV. Otherwise it is a fantastic location. Close to schoodic peninsula and lovely winter harbor. Not far from Bar Harbor either. Owners very responsive and helpful! Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful get away.

Beautiful location right on Flanders Pond. Great for kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing and boating. Property is as pictured and looks out over the pond to Schoodic Mountain. Quiet and relaxing, but the hiking, exploring and great restaurants nearby.

My wife and I can’t say enough good things about this property. The setup of the cabin and surrounding property was so thoughtful, and it was obvious Nicole puts a lot love, care, and attention to detail into it, ensuring her guests are comfortable and well-taken care of. It was so nice in fact, that we didn’t feel the need to leave the area much and even bypassed our original plan to go to Bar Harbor, and instead stayed on the “quiet side” of Acadia, and hit the Schoodic trails. We also recommend climbing Schoodic Mountain - you can’t see it directly across the pond from the cabin.
Thanks for everything, Nicole. It was a perfect and very special place to spend our honeymoon.

Ponds edge is everything and then some. The pictures do not do the camp or the setting justice. Everything you need to stay in the entire time and relax at the lake yet close enough to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor without the crowd. The Hostess was phenomenal at communication and making local recommendations yet thoughtful about giving you your space. Can't wait to go back to Pond's Edge!

What a wonderful spot of peace and tranquility! The cabin has absolutely everything we needed and the owners were fantastic to work with. We ate lobster on the deck that we grabbed from a local spot, grilled, paddled around the lake, saw soooo many stars and were still close enough to spend time in Acadia, Schoodic and in Bar Harbor! This place can’t be beat and really one of the loveliest places we’ve stayed at!

If your looking for peace and tranquility this is it! This is a little slice of heaven set up in down east Maine! If you’re into cooking great food, camp fires, fishing (although I swear there are no fish…or maybe my skills need practice lol) and going for a dip in the clean clear water, then this place is for you! Nicole was absolutely fantastic and extremely responsive throughout our stay. We even extended our stay another 5 days because we loved it! Absolutely peaceful!!

The location is just drop dead gorgeous. Unlike some VRBO photos of a property the photos of this property do not do it justice. As previously stated in past reviews the well water does have high iron content but it is a minor inconvenience. One suggestion we would have is it would have been nice if the TV was a smart TV so you could mirror your streaming services from your phone to the tv making live tv available of an evening. Cell phone service is spotty but acceptable with Verizon. Overall, we highly recommend this cabin and would love to come back in the future.

We spent a lovely week at Ponds Edge!
The cabin itself was recently renovated and was beautiful inside. The kitchen is top notch and had everything we could imagine needing. The furniture and decor were cozy and comfortable. Nicole provided movies and games to play at night. We used both the inside and outside shower, I personally liked the outside the best as there is just something about being in nature!
We lucked out and had amazing weather which allowed us to enjoy the cabin to its fullest extent! We took advantage of the kayaks provided and spent almost every afternoon on the pond. The hubby fished while I mostly took in the sites. We saw a bald eagle, and loons.
We started and ended our day on the dock enjoying the view with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
We spent our days exploring- Nicole sent us plenty of local recommendations to try- Tidal Falls is right around the corner and was a great place to catch the tide going out and see some star fish, the Honey Bee Cafe had great coffee and breakfast, Ruth and Wimpy’s was a fun local dinner spot! All recommendations were amazing. We were close to Acadia and caught the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain and hiked some trails and explored the park by driving from point to point. We walked Bar Harbor and took a sail boat tour.
Overall- we had an amazing stay and are already planning our next return! Ponds Edge had everything we would want and more! If you’re debating, JUST DO IT! You won’t regret it!

We were very pleased with our stay at Ponds Edge. The owners Nicole and John have provided everything you could need. The view of the lake and mountain ( I believe Schoodic) was just perfect. We enjoyed having fires in the pit . We enjoyed gazing into the sky to see the stars. The kitchen had everything you could think of and the view while working in the kitchen is the best!! This is a vacation we will never forget.

We had a wonderful stay at Ponds Edge! It is the such a beautiful and tranquil place. Ponds Edge takes "cozy cabin" to a new level! We loved the decor and overall feeling of "comfy-ness." We loved having our meals on the porch and enjoyed our kayaking day on the beautiful lake. The only reason for the 4 rating was the water issue, which the owner was very upfront about. Plenty of water is provided for drinking and cooking. If not for that, which took some getting used to, we would have given 10 stars! Also, the owner was very easy to reach to answer any questions. It really is such a special place!

If peace and quite is what you are looking for, then this is the place for you! From sitting outside in the morning and enjoy your coffee, to having a drink in the evening and watching the fog creep in, the scenery is beautiful. The dock is sturdy and great to sit at and read. FULLY equipped kitchen, major plus. The owner is helpful and timely with responses. Only negative is the water. It does have an odor and turns orange after sitting for a while. The owner does inform you of this in the welcome packet, however; I did not expect the extent of it. It is do-able though. They also provide fresh spring water for cooking and drinking. Overall most beautiful cabin we have stayed in.

It is beautiful location by Tunk Lake! The loons on the lake add wonderful sounds and bring an almost wild feeling! The cabin is VERY nice inside and very well furnished.. Nicole was wonderful to work with and responded to texts very quickly.. Over all it was a wonderful place to stay and would highly recommend it to anyone!

This is the perfect combination of a quiet cottage that's off the beaten path, but updated with top-notch ammentities. We enjoyed the spacious property and the provided kayaks. The outdoor shower is much more spacious than the indoor one, but its use is weather-dependent (it was a bit chilly the week we stayed!). The location is just on the edge of cellular phone service so it was a bit spotty. The owners have done a fabulous job updating and maintaining this property.

This is literally one of my favorite places on the planet. I love Maine. I guess the only downside if this cabin is that is so peaceful it makes it tough to want to leave to explore and definitely hard to want to go home.

This is such a lovely place - both away from it all and close enough to everything we love to do here. It’s well-equipped and comfortable and you wake up to a view that is just beautiful.
The only complaint we had was the very strong smelling water. We were provided plenty of fresh water, but I still struggled with the smell when showering, etc. When the weather permits, the outdoor shower is much more spacious than the indoor option.
Our host was both thoughtful and communicative.
Overall, we loved our visit to Pond’s Edge and would happily stay here again!

We had a lovely honeymoon at this cabin. The kitchen is very well stocked with very nice updated appliances. The cabin was very clean and cozy.

We loved this property - recently restored/remodeled with a beautiful, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedroom and living room. The deck over looking the lake for morning coffee or evening cocktail -magical. The fire pit in the evening - magical. We had perfect weather so morning and evening kayak paddles - magical. As I told Nicole we were a bit miffed because the main purpose of the trip was to check out Acadia NP but we didn't want to leave the property. Incredibly quiet and peaceful, a truly special place.
As mentioned in the listing there is an odor to the well water which is a bit off putting at first but you get used to it. There is a 5 gallon cooler with lots of extra jugs so plenty of water for drinking. Showering wasn't an issue for me - it was for my wife but I didn't mind it - especially using the outdoor shower which has more room anyway. It's definitely not a deal killer - this place is special!!!
Definitely get your groceries in Ellsworth before heading to the property and I wouldn't recommend driving to the property in the dark for the first time - its a bit remote and dark so might be tough to navigate at night the first time - trust your phone gps and it'll take you right to the doorstep.

This little cabin in the woods on the pond was perfectly lovely.
So peaceful and beautiful there. We even caught a couple fish off the dock. Loved the outdoor shower. The well water should not be a deterrent at all. We loved this place.

This one bedroom, one bath cabin located at the end of a long gravel road is the perfect place if you are looking for a secluded setting on a beautiful lake that's close enough to Acadia National Park and the Maine coast to drive there every day then leave the crowds behind at day's end. Or just sit in the Adirondack chairs, read a book, listen to the birds and look across the lake at a mountain. The host took great care to fully equip the kitchen with just about every utensil, pot, pan bowl etc you could want. The appliances are of excellent quality although we never needed to run the dishwasher. We loved the construction of the cabin: main part is post and beam and bedroom/ bath area is a tongue and groove natural wood , artistically crafted which all adds up to a warm cozy cabin. The cabin's is supplied by a well that was drilled about a year ago. Although there is a water filtration system, the water can contain rust and have a sulphur smell. We learned to work around this deficiency. Nicole told us they are on a wait list to have a sophisticated water filtration system installed as soon as the parts are available. Once this is done there should be no issues at all. Nicole, the host, was easy to communicate with and was receptive to resolving any issues that we encountered. We rated this property 4 stars because of the well water, but once the new filtration system is up and running we would give it a solid 5 stars.

The Pond's Edge is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery that Maine offers. The cabin in beautifully appointed with thoughtful inclusions from the owner. Throughout the booking process and our stay, Nicole was always willing to answer our questions and ensured that we enjoyed our time.

Pond's Edge stay
The lake house is very nicely renovated. Comfortable furnishings and beautiful view to the lake. Loons! and otherwise still and peaceful. The only reason for concern and the 4 star was that the well water was so terribly smelly that we could not shower under it. We had to sponge bath with towelettes. The well water issue was mentioned in the note binder at the lake house but should also have been mentioned before contracting for the stay. In every other respect the lake house at Pond's Edge was excellent and we would stay again in future but only if the well water issue is addressed.

A perfect mid June week in the Schoodic area
The cabin and property are beautifully managed and cared for. The cabin is indeed on the edge of Flanders Lake, with a stunning view of Schoodic Mountain. The cabin is very clean and has a beautiful gourmet kitchen. It is very comfortably furnished with great foresight in to what anyone would want to have in a cozy retreat. I happily made delicious baked haddock and clam chowder in that wonderful stove and oven, and there is a nice grill with all the tools. The locale is woodsy and quiet- we heard loons every night. We hiked every day just around the area. The Furthest afield we went was hiking in the Schoodic Peninsula , and to McClellan State Park. Very close and delightful are hikes such as the short forest hike to schoodic beach on Donnell Pond- and there are other hikes immediately around-the host has provided a nice notebook of information. We rarely saw anyone on these hikes, including on the Schoodic Peninsula except at Schoodic Point.
If you arrive on a Sunday, I recommend you stop at Shaws grocery in Ellsworth on the way to Sullivan, as most other shops are closed that day. We had great breakfasts in Winter Harbor at Chase’s Restaurant (closed Mon,Tues) and Gherish’s Restaurant ( closed wednes, thurs) , and bought great seafood at the Lobstore and at Dunbar’s.
A word about cell phone communication. It’s probably the proximity of Schoodic Mountain but reception is weak at the cabin. We use Verizon which has good coverage in the area, but at the cabin we really had only text and gmail. Once you are out on route 1 you will have full access, but actually we felt that it was a blessing to have just essential communication available in the cabin. It was a wonderful week and very restorative! Top recommendation!

This is such a special, peaceful place!
I am a mom of 4 kids and have been widowed for almost 11 years. I am down to a 16 year old at home and he had plans to visit family in another state this week, I chose to come here alone. This has been the most amazing experience! I am going home feeling like a new woman! It’s beautiful and so peaceful here. I want to go home because of friends and family, but I also don’t want to go home! Thank you for sharing such a lovely place!
