About this house rental

Quiet, in-the-woods privacy only begins to describe the setting for this large, family-sized log-styled home in the Vallecito Lake Valley between Durango and Bayfield Colorado.  Four bedrooms, plus large sleeping loft puts up to 16 people in beds.

The large living room is filled with light from the huge windows, and the moss rock, pellet stove anchors the room. The open floor plan includes a dining room with seating for ten, a breakfast nook for more dining space and the country kitchen.  The enormous sleeping loft, complete with four queen beds, pool table and full bath is open to the living area below.  One bath on the upper loft level and two baths on the main, ground level. Streaming TV only with YouTube TV set up for guest use. Outdoor patio dining tables & chairs currently seat 12 people.

LOCATION: In the heart of the Lake Vallecito recreation area, you are near the marina, hiking, biking and ATV trails, fishing, hunting, ice fishing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling - the San Juan wilderness area is at your doorstep! Vallecito also has a few restaurants and general stores. Appx 25 miles to downtown Durango and 50 miles to Purgatory Ski Resort.

During winter storm events 4WD is required.

Consistent with most Colorado mountain resorts, the home does not offer air-conditioning.

Outdoors, the back patio is large enough for the whole group to enjoy the woods that surround the home, complete with grill and outdoor dining and enough seating to have a grand picnic right at this home.  In front of the home, a covered porch with benches and open grassy lawn provide space and fun for the kids without have to leave the grounds.   Fisher-people have use of a stainless steel cleaning table and sink well (located in the trees, away from the home) with water supply from a lawn hose hookup.

This is one of the most private, low traffic homes we have experienced in the area.  Expect peace-and-quiet and a relaxing escape while staying at this home.  Access to the home is via state and county paved roads plus flat, well-maintained gravel roads in a quiet neighborhood.  Though the home is surrounded by mountains, it is easy to drive to year round, as the location is in the flat, river valley area.

There is ample parking for multiple vehicles and a boat, snowmobile or horse trailer, so bring your toys to enjoy more of the activities offered by this long-standing, adventure-filled resort lake community.

Cancellation Policy: A non-refundable payment of $300 is required at the time of booking. This $300 payment is applied toward the total amount due and is only refundable within 72 hours of the time of the booking is made. If your arrival date is within 30 days of booking, payment in full is required at the time of booking. Cancellations or changes to stay dates, including changes that result in a shortened stay, are not permitted within 30 days of arrival, and any such changes will result in a penalty. Cancellations or changes that are made within thirty (30) days of the arrival date, forfeit the entire reservation amount while cancellations made more than thirty (30) days in advance of your arrival only forfeit the $300 payment made at the time of booking. For reservations that are at least thirty (30) nights, the cancellation policy above increases to sixty (60) days prior to the arrival date. We do offer travel insurance.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: 10 of us came for our son's graduation from FLC and enjoyed a home big enough to host us all together, and big enough to each have plenty of space. While the drive to Durango is a bit far (45 minutes) it is beautiful. Would love to come back and stay here again!

We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately extreme temperatures caused it to be very hot making it uncomfortable in the house during the day and into late evening. It would have been 5 Stars all the way around if we could you or have used the A/C due to the unusually warm weather.

The house has so much potential! The kitchen can use some additional supplies and organizing. Pack toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, napkins, dish washing liquid. They do supply a SMALL amount. The house can use a good cleaning, the blinds are dusty and the windows are dirty, but nothing deal breaking. The property manager was easy to get a hold of and responded quickly, they were willing to accommodate us on our check out day due to unforeseen circumstances.

We had such a wonderful time with family. Our ID family met with our CO family for a high school graduation celebration. The home had great accommodations for all ages. The kids loved the upstairs with so many fun games too. Thank you so much!

More than 25 house issues around poor or no maintenance and poor cleanliness. Here are just a few examples concerning plumbing, electrical, lack of supplies (supposedly provided per the description): No access to the front-door from parking due to piled up snow and massive ice blocks on the front porch. I requested clearance of this 5 days before. Maintenance showed up at 4:10 (10-min after check in) as family guests were arriving. We later discovered many lights burned out on the high ceiling, no dish strainer, no dish towels nor cloths, no dishwasher soap, master bathroom faucets were loose we had to fix them, laundry room smelled like cat urine, variable speed did not work on the fans above the fireplace - only supper fast, fan not working and out of socket in upstairs bathroom, the sink plunger in the master bathroom was stuck closed, several blinds are broken or will not open and close properly, pellet stove was filthy. Each time we lighted it took 30 to 45 minutes to ignite, by day three it took 1.5 hours for it to ignite even after clearing some of the barely accessible ash. Dust and dirt everywhere in the house, dirty carpets that I had to vacuum before guests arrived. Nephew found a 1" dead bug on the carpet by the front door. Front porch and sidewalk were strewn with muddy forest debris besides the ice. We had no access to the back patio for barbeques and our planned picnic due to the roof-snow piled 8 feet high, where it was most convenient rather than placed/pushed onto the lawn with a tractor beside the cement slab. Part of the front window view was blocked with 6ft of piled snow from the roof instead placed aside and on the lawn. Of course, for a house with three full-bathrooms for up to 16 guests, does it really make sense to have only one 40 gallon water-heater? Management refused to remedy any issues before or while we were there. It appeared this house had not been used or cleaned for a year. I was offered apologies by text and phone and then nothing was done about it. Or I was thanked for informing Management about issues that they would take care of after we leave. What kind of professional service is this when you pay a huge non-refundable cleaning fee for a clean and functioning accommodations that are supposed to be working and ready to move into? House was clean, area was beautiful and quiet. Water heater of 40 gallons was small for the size of the house. It was farther from Durango than we expected, around 50 minutes.
