Bayfront and perfectly rustic in the best ways, Saganook was built in 1902 as a summer retreat and studio space for a then-famous woodcarver and sculptor. The interior boasts eclectic decor, exposed ceilings, and a spacious layout that will allow everyone to find their own favorite place to hang out in a classic Maine setting! This four cottage compound conveniently located in Brunswick sits on Middle Bay, so you won't have to go far to kayak or boat on calm waters. Some eagles often hang out in the trees on the property and on the rocks, so keep an eye out for them! Located on a peninsula with 1,200 feet of private waterfront allows you the space to unwind and relax or enjoy the large grassy yard to take a nap in the hammock. This private waterfront also includes both remarkable climbing rocks and a pebble beach!
The large cottage offers two full bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and one and a half bathrooms. Spend time gathering on the sun porch or covered deck. The kids will love the experience of sleeping in one of the two cabins that come from a classic Maine summer camp. The first building, the 'boys cabin,' has two twin beds which may be put together to make a king should a couple want to sleep there. The 'girls cabin' is the same layout and located just a few steps from the boys. A larger outbuilding, the 'Holmes cabin' offers a double bed and two twin beds. These three cabins share a bathroom and shower facility accessed from the yard. The fifth building is a spacious studio perched on the rocks with water a few feet away on three sides. Enjoy the view from the back porch of the entire bay leading out to the ocean with islands in the distance. It is a favorite spot for everyone who stays at the property.

The property was everything we wished and more. The description did not do it justice. Some of the things the description did not mention are privacy. The property is remote. It is spread out and you dont see or hear neighbors. Perfect if you bring a dog. The studio building mentioned is beautiful. There are three beds but also a deck over the water. Perfect place for sunset cocktails. It was a great surprise. The views are carzy beautiful. There wasnt a moment someone was not in one of the rocking chairs on the porch. There are several hammocks, great for afternoon naps. Three kayaks (two singles, one double). A hodge-podge of kids bikes are available. The second bathroom is a powder room accessible from outside (clean and nice) and a great outdoor shower setup. We all preferred the outdoor shower to the indoor one. The dining table only seats eight however there are folding tables and chairs available on the screen porch. The screen porch is a great place for ghost stories right before bed. The beds were comfortable, plenty of towels, however you may want to bring beach towels with you. We did and were glad. There is a clothes line available and gas grill. The house is rustic, lots of knickknacks which are a bit dusty. It is the quentisential new england beach cottage many new englanders grew up going to. I highly recommend.

We enjoyed beautiful views on this lovely point. The beds we’re comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped except no dishwasher. The furniture was comfortable. Loft bedroom lacked adequate privacy and noise protection but had a great view. We loved the outside shower and toilet. If you enjoy a rustic typical Maine summer camp this is for you.

You cannot beat the location of Saganook or the fact that there is plenty of room for family to come stay. This was me and my husband’s third year and we love it. Our kids and grandkids join us (ages 10 months to 17 years) and they love it every bit as much as we do. As usual, we were sad to leave paradise and come back to reality…!

This was one of my favorite vacations ever. The scenery is absolutely stunning. The house has pretty much everything you might need. We will pack much less next time we go back! It is incredibly peaceful and quiet. 7 nights went very quickly. We had 4 adults and 6 children (ages 10-14) who were never bored and we never felt on top of each other. There is so much space to explore. One of our favorite things about Saganook was drinking coffee each morning on the rocking chairs on the porch facing the bay. For my husband the bird lover, Saganook offered amazing birdwatching. There are two access points to the water. There is a pebble beach down a steep path secured by a rope. The second access is on a rocky outcrop by the studio cabin. It is easier to launch kayaks at high tide. We look to going back, hopefully annually!
