Great location and very clean and warm. There was a lovely snug opposite our room with a wood burning stove, so cosy!
There was some noise from the room above but this was very quickly resolved.. the manager moved us to another room for our second night.
4.3
Not very easy to find but good location once we did. Room large and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped and useful.
Sign at door said there were no vacancies when there were several rooms still available. Location not where shown on maps, including Booking website.
4.3
Comfortable, smart, but no frills
The walk up from town necessitated the use of a car.
4.3
Other guests outside the window talking after midnight and before 5.30 am
4.3
High quality hostel, sorted us out after a long wet cycle
4.3
Good communication prior to arrival. Friendly staff, basic but clean facilities.
Bed was too firm!
4.3
Nice choice of breakfast
No staff on sight when power to the lights failed
4.3
Excellent staff , very clean hostel
4.3
Relaxed, friendly, simple and informal. The rooms are perfectly adequate for a walking group. En-suite shower and toilet in the 4 person bunk rooms for ideal. Nice indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Kitchen was fine, but if all residents decided to cook in there it would be pretty congested. We made breakfasts and packed lunches there and tended to eat out in the evenings. Loads of options in easy walking distance.

Location was excellent for our needs
Some of our food went missing
4.3

Nothing, it was perfect for what we required
4.3
Overall we satisfied with the hostel facilities.
4.3
A welcome rest after a long walk in the South Pennines

While the hill will put off some walkers, the fact that it is so close to a train station and a proper little town centre with pretty much all anyone will need makes the location a very big win. It's a new enterprise, really nicely put together and compares very favourably indeed to most hostels I've experienced. Very clean, very likable, they even have muesli for breakfast - I will certainly be coming back! And the staff are wonderful; handled my eccentric elderly parents with real warmth and humanity (thank you!).
Wish the floors creaked a little less loudly at night, but that's a hazard of life.
4.3
Clean, welcoming, delightful.
Lovely supplies in the kitchen. Comfy beds. Really nice style.
Struggled to fit the duvets into the covers and the fitted sheets onto the mattresses! Everything was just a fraction too small!
4.3
Brilliant - lovely building, log fire, comfy, clean, and a very friendly hostel manager dog who liked cuddles :-)
Walk up the hill - way steeper than I expected! Would get a taxi next time.
4.3
Location perfect at the end of a long days hiking
Everything to my satisfaction

Good location
Should give more information about having to climb hill from town centre we had someone older with us
4.3
easy to find and good location for Pennine way hike. good kitchen facilities.
nothing to complain.
4.3
Nothing in the room apart from the bed, very sparse but this was probably due to the fact that I hadn`t checked properly what the hostel was providing. Missed having a TV. For the price we paid it was very disappointing and would not stay again.
4.3
Great location, friendly, well informed staff, great chill out areas, outside seating, kitchen with all the crockery/cutlery needed, fridge with essentials, all areas kept spotlessly clean
Nothing
4.3
Great location near the centre of town. Clean efficient. Great value for money.
Nothing.
4.3
Great location, tucked away up the hill a little on a calm street, only a few minutes walk from town. Even though it was fully booked when we stayed it was nice and quiet
4.3
Super friendly staff and vegetarian kitchen
4.3
Clean and friendly.
4.3
Location and clean dormitory, friendly staff.
No TV in communal area
4.3
Well-designed rooms, with loo, shower and sink within the room (rather than shared facilities).
Lovely staff.
Location is up a steep hill. Check the times of the last bus up from the town, as they seem to stop quite early!
4.3
Lovely kitchen. Comfortable and clean bedroom and lounge
No towels in room. Don't stay in hostels usually do not sure if that's normal
4.3
visually the building is stunning in beautiful surroundings. we loved the whole experience
being opposite the kitchen meant we were kept awake a bit by people being loud after 1am. wasn’t a huge deal as the people were just a bit drunk and didn’t realise how noisy they were.
4.3
warm welcome from the manager Gill and her lovely dog. was allowed to check in early
we were in room one opposite the kitchen. unfortunately we had to get up around 2am to ask people politely could they be a bit quieter as a group were standing in the kitchen with the door wide open being really loud for quite a while when there’s a common room provided for socialising. it wasn’t a big deal they were just drunk and didn’t realise how loud they were I think. just kept us awake a while.
