We absolutely loved it. It was about half-full. The service was top-notch. There were plenty of excursion options and they were handled directly with us after we arrived. The food was delicious and the beach was perfect. We loved surfing, hanging at the beach, and the pools.

Great stay, great service, great cocktails.

Beautiful Place, friendly staff, clean rooms place needs small updates in rooms

Excellent location, very friendly staff, phenomenal access to endless and varied activities on, slightly off or very near the property… beachside spa like you’ve never seen, macaws everywhere, monkeys, sea turtles, ziplines and incredible sunsets.
Staff is extremely friendly but sometimes very slow.
Food is either a hit or way off. Several dishes soaked in soy sauce. Lamb chops excellent one night then tiny and overcooked a few nights later.
The villa needed some basic upkeep… hot water m, toilet, electric, sliders… like it hasn’t been used in months.
The grounds are well kept and teeming with the parrots, monkeys and other beautiful wildlife.
Be absolutely sure to book a massage at Equillibrium Spa on the beach. Heaven !

Food was so good I'd return just for that. Room was missing anything other than the bed to sit on, and no desk space or place for computer--not optional these days. It's the best place I know of to see the magnificent red macaws. It has a beach but it's not really swimmable. There are two pools but they are both quite shallow--not suitable for lap swimming.

View was fantastic. Employees were attentive. Resort had lots of stairs to get to room. Room had cold AC but eating area was outdoors and very humid. Hotel offered lots of tours, activities and spa options. I would stay again.

A truly beautiful and relaxing stay in Costa Rica. Views and property are incredible. The hotel is set up very privately and very relaxing. The beach is great for swimming and the staff were outstanding.

We really loved this property! It was a journey to get to on a very long bumpy dirt road but worth it. The room was great with a small jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed the pool and pool bar, had a nice dinner at sunset and the beach club area was a big bonus. We were only here one night, but I would def stay here again.

The resort is very nice and relaxing. Amazing view. The food was a 5/10, the restaurant and bar by the beach was so much better than the restaurant and bar by the main entrance. They offer free and paid for activities to guest through the resort but the staff didn’t give good descriptions on those activities, the activities we chose (Horseback riding, kayaking, zip lining) all of which cost were very boring and they don’t tell you the cancellation policy before they commit you which should be required. Over all it was a 6/10 .

Extraordinarily nice location, beautiful hotel, small villa style, amazing views, best food and very friendly staff. Very quiet, many activities offered at the hotel location, such as nature hikes, zip lining, with very knowledgeable guides. We had a wonderful time relaxing at the pool or the private hotel beach and especially enjoyed peaceful atmosphere in a very private setting.

If you've ever wondered what paradise is like, this is it! Aside from the absolutely stunning scenery, the staff is absolutely AMAZING! EVERYONE is willing to help out at all times - if they see you waiting for the shuttle and it hasn't come in a few minutes, they will call it for you - regardless of whether they are on the cleaning staff, a manager, or a bartender. I have only two "complaints" which are completely #FirstWorldProblems - 1) the minimal shower water pressure and 2) the spotty / inconsistent WIFI coverage at the villas - which could be a good thing if your goal is total relaxation. You're so close to nature here - from being awakened by the howler monkey, going to sleep listening to the ocean swell, and singing with the birds midday. temperatures are not so hot, but very humid. I can't rave enough about this property - a best kept secret! But don't take my word for it...check it out for yourself.

The property is like an average 3* hotel. It’s such a disappointment compared to the other hotel el mangrove which is wonderful and completely spot on.
The pool and beach are amazing. The views are also cool.
The rooms are dated, dirty and in need of a makeover - more like 2* rooms. The tiles have grime and are gross. We had so many dead spiders and flies dotted around our room.
The staff are either awesome or not bothered. We experienced either very helpful people, or 30 minute waits for a drink. The drivers were really lovely.
The amenities are shocking. The shuttle bus is irregular and just shoddy - ripped seats and just dirty. The gym is a whole new level of awful - the machines are dangerous and just in super bad condition.
The reception isn’t very helpful either.
Really recommend skipping this hotel and going to el mangroove instead.

Property is beautiful and staff is great. Location is remote and best to drive an SUV with 4 wheel drive to get to property...we didn't and had a flat tire and trouble getting up several hills on the dirt gravel roads required to traverse to get to the property.
Beach and surf are awesome. Beach cabanas are great.
Had a few glitches with the jacuzzi leaking so worked intermittently.
Biggest issues were the restaurant menus. Too much "Asian Fusion?" in everything....Ended up going to local restaurants for local food....rice, beans, fish, steak etc

The property is a little tough to get to but once you’re there the views are amazing! The beach that is closest to the resort is a little rocky but still a nice place to go and lounge at!

The plusses: great chef with creative menu, overal excellent food. Staff was very welcoming and mostly super friendly. The location is breathtaking and extraordinary. Although not adults-only, it is quiet and calm. Why that is important? Because the bird life is abundant!
The minuses: the rooms need to be updated and modernized. Bathroom was not at all to standard. You pay literally for everything, starting with breakfast and bottled water! Being a Marriott gold member did not come with any benefits, apart from 25% extra points.
In short a fabulous hotel with flaws that need to be taken care off. Value for money, is not so good now but could definitely improve, not by lowering the price but by fixing the issues mentioned.

One of the most beautiful and dramatic beach settings in Costa Rica. Excellent accommodations in a secluded tropical paradise with outstanding food and service - many thanks to Jose “Joe” and Felipe in the restaurant and beach bar. It’s really an experience not to be missed.

Fantastically situated on the hights of a scenic bay, this 5 star hotel is one of the best in Costa Rica. This was our third stay. The restaurant serves high quality meals. Even on the beach, the meals served are rcceptionnal. There are many interesting activities organized by the staff. Many beautifull birds and facinating animals.

We spent 10 days here in October 2019 and really enjoyed our stay. We traveled with our 3 children (8,5,1.5 years) and stayed in a lovely Casita ("Cedros"). Our unit came with a golf cart which my kids LOVED. It was great for getting around the resort and to Coco's Beach Club because it was definitely too far to walk with kids.
The included activities were great for ages 5+: my kids ziplined 4x (on site at resort) and also rode horses on the beach. Louis and Ronald were both knowledgeable and personable and my kids loved getting to see them multiple times for different activities during our stay. Since we went during the rainy season, the resort was very uncrowded which meant we could easily get into all activities we wanted. Louis took us to see turtles laying eggs at night which we also really enjoyed (add on activity).
The resort itself is very beautiful and well maintained. Our 3 bed unit was spacious and clean and had a lovely pool. The animals and vegetation all around are stunning - Macaws, howler monkeys, iguanas, deer, coatis and all sorts of tropical plants. The beach here is rocky but very uncrowded and naturally beautiful with waterfalls and lots to explore.
The location is quite remote with a small grocery in town. We rented a car part way through so we could go explore Samara and another nearby beach to see hatching turtles.
All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Punta Islita. I would highly recommend it to others looking for a family friendly resort.

Amazing hotel. Everything about our stay was incredible.

Location, views and wildlife were fantastic. We received an “upgrade” from 2 separate toons to a lodge with 2 rooms. Unfortunately the upgrade was remote and at the bottom on a very steep climb away from the restaurant meaning that a transfer was required every time you wanted to go to the main restaurant or reception.

The hotel was nice and very well set up for families or people that are looking to go for a week and have a lot of activities included at no cost (ziplining, golf, monkey walks, horse back riding) without having to rent a car or find outside companies. We didn't do any of the activities but ventured off the beaten path a bit. No one else in the hotel seemed to be doing this... or have a rental car. The beach and both pools are lovely. It is pretty secluded. The "town" consits of about 3 buildings. There is a tapas place right up the road, the guy who runs it's name is Miguel. This is an absolute must!! They're beach club resturant has nice options as well. Enjoy your trip!

Hotel Punta Islita is somehow overpriced located next to the beach and surrounded by mountains.

The resort was first-rate in every way. The staff were charming and very accommodating, the facilities are immaculately maintained, and the setting exquisite. A special treat: the hotel offers activities that are free to guests: bird-watching hikes, money hikes, sunset hikes, horseback-riding, cooking and art classes, and zip-lining. Fun for all ages!

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever visited, with a perfect and harmonious combination of nature and luxury. This place doesn’t take all the credit it deserves, such as being listed among the best hotels in the world as posited by recognized magazines, a reason why potential guests may underestimate its beauty, luxury and excellence through its reviews and pictures shown on the Internet. When you see the entrance and the welcoming they give you as you stare at the beautiful amenities, you won’t have any desire to leave the place, which is perfectly convenient as it is quite far from near by places.
The first day, after a rough drive (went during winter season and river was running water so we couldn’t go through that path and took the long route instead), we booked a couple’s massage. OMG! What an experience! It was a chocolate, full body, 4-hand massage, after which you are left alone to go and shower by the plants and the birds to then come back into a hot tub with champagne for two. DO IT!
The food, although somewhat pricy, it was awesome, worth every penny.
We also did the zip lining tour, which was an incredible experience too.
Fruity drinks (alcoholic too) are made with natural fruits and are AMAZING!
The amenities are simply great. We had a private hot tub in our bedroom. The pools are crazy beautiful (did I say the food was great?...). And the service, extraordinary. These people know how to treat a guest.
