The hotel was beautiful, an old colonial atmosphere in a very comfortable setting, with great views of Kalimpong. Staff were very attentive and the Indian food in the restaurant was excellent. This was our second visit to the hotel, which we fully recommend and look forward to returning for future trips.

Beautiful colonial architecture, old world charm and exceptional service & hospitality

Best stay and excellent hospitality. We loved it🙏

Perfectly fine hotel. Breakfast / dinner was okay, not great. Nothing significant to complain about, but also nothing to rave and compliment about either. The WiFi was slow (not unusual in a relatively remote area). Hot showers are only available morning and evenings to save water. They claim to charge for doing laundry in the room, but the hotel laundry machine was broken.

We stayed for 4 days at the hotel between 29th May to 2nd June,2014. Excellent location, close to the market and local taxi stand. Comfortable rooms with quaint, old world, British colonial charm. Nice patios in the garden outside, to put up your feet and enjoy a cup of tea with a lovely view of the hills in front of you. Frequent powercuts in Kalimpong, but instant hotel generator back up ensured no problems with power supply. Food - we opted for breakfast and dinner included plan - very wholesome breakfast & good dinner service at the Silver restaurant. Hotel staff were very helpful. Overall, enjoyed our stay tremendously!

A beautiful view do the grounds below and distant mountains. Beautiful historic property in original condition.

Other than its location, which is superb since it overlooks a valley with an unrestricted view of hills in the near distance (weather permitting), your stay is made memorable by the quality of the hotel's staff. As this heritage property has retained much of its Colonial charm, so have they, although they are a young lot - which testifies to their training. Accessible, pleasing, courteous and always willing to go the extra mile for you, the service is impeccable.
For maximum enjoyment, you must, of course, have a room on the first floor with "a mountain view." While most rooms (from our experience of two) appear to be spacious and well appointed, the ones on the first floor are significantly superior to those on the ground, particularly if you are fortunate to get one with a view. Our enjoyment and appreciation of the facilities increased 100% - yes, as much as that - when we shifted from a room near the Reception to one with a mountain view (though, because of early monsoon mist and rain, we couldn't get much of it. Still, the promised openness was compensation enough!).
Food-wise, the hotel does tend to be somewhat expensive in season and tends to appeal to the lowest common denominator - large quantities of a limited range of cuisine. However, clearly, it does have the capability to provide more varied fare because when we asked to be accommodated outside the normal buffet meals, the staff went out of its way to oblige. The cook makes a mean grilled fish!

We had a corner room with a fantastic view of Kalimpong and the Himalayan Foothills. The rate included breakfast and dinner. Dinner was a set menu, which we enjoyed not over spicy (possibly this might be a detraction for some people). Kalimpong is beautiful - relaxed except for the central market / bus station area. The hotel has stunning views and a very pretty garden. The service was very good and all the staff tried very hard to please. We would definately recommend the Elgin Silver Oaks.

small rooms and quality of vegetarian food was bad
