This place was amazing. They do a chef-run dinner that is completely worth doing. We loved our time here.

Beautiful property which was an old tea factory. The room we had came with a well stocked kitchen and tons of amenities (including laundry on site). Check in was easy and communication was great. Anna included lots of recommendations for food, hikes and sites to see on the island. Would return.

Really enjoyed this stay outside of the city center and really thought the property was incredibly beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone who is open to have a more nature stay and privacy

The property is truly magical. They have done an amazing job with the design. Truly breathtaking sitting on top of a small community and close to the downtown. I proposed to my fiancé here and we can’t wait to come back.

Hotel room was damp, dark and moldy. The room requested for a couple with two children - upon arrival we were directed to a room with four twin beds (2 on one floor and the other two in a loft). Due to the climate conditions in the room, your belongings will never be fully dry and the mildewy smell sticks to your clothes and suitcase. The shower/water heater will only provide for two quick warm showers and the others will have to take cold showers. In addition, there are any number of insects in the room e.g., ants, crickets and other native species. Additionally, the WIFI was non-existent and the administrators/managers of the property were largely absent. We caught glimpses of them as they were driving off/on the property. The location is also not particularly centrally located - so be ready to drive if you intend to use this as homebase. This is as no-frills as you can get; there was nothing within walking distance to go to for breakfast. The hotel offered breakfast (for a price) which consisted of: yogurt, granola, small portion of cheese and ham with local bread, OJ and tea as well as, hot milk and cereal.

Pico do Refugio was our favorite place we stayed on Sao Miguel island. The location is convenient although the narrow roads leading to the property are a bit challenging. It's on a section of charming farmland - the grounds are so peaceful and full of character. Our apartment was very comfortable for two people. Lovely design details throughout. We did not get the breakfast, but it's an option. If you are looking for a great alternative to the larger-scale hotel/resorts, we highly recommend staying here. Looking forward to coming back again and again!

We had a great stay at this old tea factory. Mafalda was amazing—she made us restaurant and activity reservations and recommendations. Be sure to get the breakfast box of local cheese and yogurt to eat at the picnic tables by the pool. The room was clean and spacious with a full kitchen. The lobby is accessible 24 hours, but there’s not always someone at reception. However, Mafalda was available by WhatsApp and was super quick to respond. If you’re looking to get out of the city, the location is easily accessible to major roads and we loved it!

The property is absolutely gorgeous. The pool is lovely. The grounds are to be explored. Service was super helpful, personal, and thoughtful. Location is fantastic - near enough to Ponta Delgada but far enough to be relaxed and remote. Yet still near several great restaurants and the beach. Would love to stay here again and explore the different unique rooms.

This place is great. The staff was amazing. The in-room breakfast you can order to have dropped off at your door in the morning was a real highlight. The hotel is centrally located on the beautiful north shore and we found it the perfect spot to launch our daily tours from. Don’t Think twice - book it!

Cannot say enough good things about this hotel, everything from answering emails regarding phone coverage before we left, check-in, breakfast, suggestions for places to see and eat - were excellent. Staff professional and really helpful, our rooms were clean and larger than expected. Will look forward to going back kater in the year!

The hotel is amazing (I checked all the other hotels and that's the best one), the staff were really nice, and two of them speak English. The rooms were really cleaned. The location is 20 min driving to the city (Ponta Delgada) so you will need a car. I took a loft and an apt, the loft has one bedroom with a queen bed, and the living room has a twin bed and two Futons. The apt has one bed room and one futon. The supermarket is 5 min drive. The enternet connection was only in the lobby. I went in 3/2015

This was our first trip to the island of Sao Miguel and we were on our honeymoon, so to say that Pico do Refugio was exactly what we were looking for is an understatement. Ricardo in the lounge was incredible with all of the information he had about the island and how and when to make reservations for everything (which he took care of for us). Any question we had that couldnt be answered via the internet (thanks to complementary wifi), Ricardo took care of. We did do a bit of driving but most of the places we wanted to get to like: Furnas, Ponta Delgada, Vila Franca do Campo were within 30-40 minutes. Ricardo even gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat and do a bit of shopping in the area of the hotel. The hotel oozed modernity/style mixed with rustic Azorean quality. An incredible place for someone who wants an Azorean experience but isnt ready to give up plush living.

Nice quiet self-catering apartment rooms in a quite remote location. It was bigger than I expected and the facilities were all good. Cosy log fire to keep warm, and a swimming pool which would have been nice in hot weather. The old buildings have been really well renovated and there's a nice artist's studio type reception area looking out over the hills. Could easily have stayed for longer for a relaxing time away from it all.
