Senaka was a lovely host and we had a good time during our stay. Breakfast was good. The only downside was there was a mix up with the booking when we arrived so we were unsure if the room was ready for us. Some more signage or instructions to the location would have helped as we arrived at night and struggled to find it. Senaka the host was very accommodating and took us for a day trip wherever we wanted to go for a fair fee.

On reaching the hotel they said we had booked only one room when we had confirmation for two. It took a while after we spoke with Orbitz staff and they spoke to their owner who apparently had the computer somewhere to confirm the correct details. Bad start. Beautiful location but cleanliness and maintenance appeared to be a shortcoming. We had a small scorpion in the room. No one was available in the hotel to ask for assistance. We came in late around 1.00 am and the gate was closed. No signage or information was given on early gate closure. We had to jump over the gate to enter the property. No one was available and no one answered the phone. Free breakfast was provided which was good.

When we arrived in the dark and gloomy reception, the owner barely spoke to us and told us to sit down. His wife then came and said there were no rooms. Tired after a long trip, we were appalled. She then proceeded to say she was able to vacate a room for us, but we would have to pay another 20 USD for it because it was a deluxe room. I asked to see the room and it looked pretty much like the reserved room picture. She then said that picture was before the renovation, that she had to pay the website a comission of 18% and she insisted on knowing how much more we would pay for the deluxe room. I was able to negotiate into paying nothing extra, for if was her mistake, it should be her loss. Room and bathroom were nice, clean and new. Breakfast was very basic (toast, coffee, jam and butter). Large group of tourists seemed to get better service. They were noisy in evening on balcony close to our room. Would not stay there again because of owners.

I stayed here three nights in april/offseason. The room i had was big overlooking the valley. Fan and AC - both working very well. No balcony but they are rebuilding the rooms (construction when i was there) and they will have private balcony/terrace.
The food is very good. Their chef is great and as there where few staying there when i visited i got a real pampered service. Breakfast is also good with fresh fruits, coffee/tea, toast, jam and eggs as you want them.
The owners was very kind and it felt really nice staying there. I planned for a trip out of Kandy to Sigyreha and they helped me arrange - in the end i skipped it and there was no problems.
Close to tamarind is a little shoppingmall with a pharmacy and a licourstore.
The tamarind is located high up with great view pretty close to the mainroad and not far from the railwaystation.
