This is a tired hotel that is trying to do its best. Lovely location on the loch and gives easy access to places of interest. Reception is not covered from late afternoon and in the morning, there is a phone number to use in case of emergency. Food ok. If you have pets with you be prepared to be a 3rd rate guest. Table not laid out for you, the only tables to use are at the entrance to the guest lounge or next to the swing doors to the kitchen. So not a relaxing time. We were there for 2 nights, and our room was not serviced after our first night. Not what i would expect for a three star hotel. I would suggest you check out other hotels in the area, for a few £s more we could have stayed at Stonefield castle, a few miles down the road set in its own grounds!!! We live and learn!@@

Had an overall great stay! Very clean and nice staff. The only thing that’s negative worth mentioning was that it took a very long time to get hot water in the shower and the tub. And after the hot water was running in the tub there was no way to get the cold water running. Except for this, a comfy bed and nice breakfast made this a nice stop along the way.

A bit outdated but the friendly staff, free outside hottub and infrared sauna in the room made up for that!

Building is run down. Service was poor.

We were there for 3 nights. Room was clean but way going to restaurant was disgusting, carpet is muddy. There was no hot water in the bathroom/toilet, had to use tap ice cold water for freshen up in the morning, informed to staff said they can't do anything the engineers will come after 12 noon. Rooms are very noisy can hear even toilet flush and jumping and all from other rooms

very bad experience and horrible rooms, i had to leave the next day and drive back home, my holiday was ruined and i dont wish anyone should visit this hotel

The Grey Gull Hotel is an old building and requires much renovation. However our bedroom was large, clean and we enjoyed our one night stay. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. Would certainly return especially at the price it is at present.

The bed was uncomfortable: springs could be felt, with slanted (unleveled) to one side, hot water took 16 min. to warm up- never hot, weird whole in ceiling in bathroom. Staff super nice and safe location.

A comfortable friendly hotel in a super setting
Kind helpful young staff
I hope to stay there again

Room was clean. Restaurant staff was kind and courteous. However, there was no hot water in the room, and the front desk was unattended. After a long travel day, the expected hot shower was not realized.

It is an old hotel which needs a lot of work doing to it. However our bedroom was spacious, had been updated, had everything we needed and was very clean and the B&B price per room was mist reasonable. The breakfasts were very good, and a lovely view of Loch Fyne from the dining room. All the staff we spoke to were very welcoming. Would certainly come back again if looking for accommodation in Ardrishaig.

Needs money thrown at it!

Room was absolutely massive and bed was super comfy. Only downside we had was that the hot water took forever to get to a decent temperature and it wasn’t really all that warm but just had to go for it really so probably take a mark off for that. Other than that though thought the room was perfect.
We had dinner in the restaurant and it was absolutely tremendous 10/10. Actually the second time we’ve ate there and never had any faults with the quality of the food.
One other downside and it’s not really that much of an issue personally but can see it being for others is that the place appeared to be severely short staffed so there was often a long wait for drinks and all that but like I say not really an issue for us and we were happy enough to wait.
Would be more than happy to stay here again.

Very sweet hotel with a lot of charm and country feeling. The manager was welcoming and supernice. We felt like family taken care of.

A real shame here with this hotel, we received an email in advance of staying inviting us to the grill that evening and to be honest it sounded good.
When we arrived, well this is when strange things started
To begin with no one on reception, a note to call the emergency number, but only an out of hours number listed.
Off to find someone, anyone and finally found a couple of gents in the restaurant who looked like a startled rabbit in the headlights, who then called back for a nice lady to come and look after me. Turns out she was housekeeping but had been landed with a host of extra responsibilities (really does deserve being recognised for that Extra work), so checked in and informed the grill wasn’t working due to lack of gas!? Anyone someone was coming later and they will get it sorted, fingers crossed
The car park seemed to be drastically under available and it was like a crazy parking game trying to find somewhere
Short of space now, so we had water come thru when the room above was having a shower, the door rattled at night so ghosts were trying to get in, the dressing table assumed you had very short / no legs, whilst to turn off the bedside lights you had to stand up out of bed. Really incredibly badly designed room & we had to use the ironing board to prop the door shut to stop it sounding like someone/thing was trying to get in.
Whoever designed this room but have been smoking something really unusual. The finishing around the tiles was skipped during snagging

Stayed in room 1 for a business trip.
Really nice and helpful staff. It looks like it is slowly being modernised as it is an old building but facilities are good with a great location.
Definitely want to return in future for leisure with my partner.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel is very comfortable. Prices very reasonable. Some basics not provided such as shower gel, shampoo, conditioner. Sauna in room most enjoyable.

The food was great, as was the location. The hotel is tired, and in need of a refurb. We had the family room. The toilet door did not have a lock, and the latch didnt match up with the door keep plate. So when having a shower, we had to keep the door shut with towels. The shower was poor as well, not very strong, not much pressure. Apart from that, the room was clean and comfortable, and we got good nights sleep. We were in room 17.

Hotel was great and so we stayed an extra night as the area was great just what we were looking for in Scotland
as we were traveling around .
We had a slight issue at first as we were in a party of 4 and
had to get a extra bed in the room but the Staff wee great and when back in the area we would like to stay again
great staff very helpful

We stayed for two nights at this Loch front hotel. Food was good breakfast and evening meal. Close to small town centre with Crinan canal to rear.

i dont think it is a 4 star it needs a paint job and new carpets the breakfast was good had a meal first night the wife got the steak pie and it was swimming in gravy way to mutch for size it came in the reception was very good and helpful

Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was reasonable. The shower was extremely poor, if you want a warm shower the water just 'trickles' out, and when you try to get more power it turns cold.
Also in my room the toilet flush handle had obviously been replaced, but it didnt work very well and took a few attempts before toilet flushed properly. The first impression of the hotel isn't so good because the front door looks shabby and in need of repair. A wee bit more attention to the maintenance and decor of this hotel would really improve it, but as it is at the moment I think its overpriced.

Overall a great stay with a generous breakfast.
Please note, the 4th bed in a family room is only suitable for a very small child, not a big 11 year old! Thankfully, the hotel wasn't full and they gave us an additional room free of charge.

The rooms were extremely small and be prepared to carry your luggage up flights of stairs. We could feel all the springs through the bed. You had to sit sideways on the toilet because of how small the washroom was. The view was beautiful however and the staff lovely.

Disappointed to note the exterior is a lot more ran down than the photos depicted. A vending machine meets you as you enter the door.
We booked a double room, sea view and jetted bath through hotels.com
It turns out jetted baths in the photos with the coloured lights, no longer exist and the photos on Hotels.com are out of date. The hotels hands were tied so I took this up with the website.
Given room 5, clean enough with a new carpet. The TV remote was spotless.
Few things could be improved:
1.The mattress. I've stayed in bothies, tents, 5 star hotels and caravans and this is the WORST mattress ever. So hard you feel bones in your body you didn't know existed. Awful sleep both nights.
2.Basic Nescafe in room with no decaff. One spoon and pack of biscuits between two
3.Plug access hindered by new top to desk
4.Unclear which is showergel or shampoo as unlabelled but used my own. Grouting and mastic needs redone, no toilet roll holder
5.Ironingboard needs replaced
6.Dangerous door from our corridor downstairs opens straight onto a step
7.Disappointing bland breakfast. Cooked was fixed choices, porridge comes plain regardless if you order salt or honey as 'its easier' for the chef. Continental was cereal and toast. No yoghurt or fruit
8. Coffee at breakfast in dispenser was rotten
9. Chain on room door didn't have a keeper
Wouldn't have booked if we knew the true state of the place as photos deceiving. At £220 for 2 nights, would expect a little better

I suspect this was a much grandet hotel in its day. It does need to catch up on the building. But now that they are past COVID I suspect they will get caught up.
Staff like everyone we have met in Scotland has been super friendly.

Our stay at the Grey Gull was great!..ok so it needs a little updating but the addition of being the only hotel in or around Ardrishaig with hot tubs at a reasonble price reflects this!..The meals were lovely and good options for all the family...service was good and staff friendly...all in all we would certainly return if in the area..🙂

Warm welcome. Hotel room was quite small and the en-suite was very small. The shower door was broken, the wash hand basin was too small to use to brush your teeth. The bed was old with the springs almost poking through. The windows didn’t seal well and the noise from traffic woke me up every time a lorry passed. The food and service in the restaurant was very good. Well cooked tasty and good service.

Staff very friendly, professional, laryna and kevin fabulous hosts! Nothing too much trouble!
Service was brilliant,
Our room (15) was very clean, comfortable and well equipped, the bed was so comfy, the best sleep had in ages !! Would definitely recommend this hotel !!

I booked this hotel as a reward night as I had to visit the area. The day before And on the day I was checking in I tried phoning several times to book a table for dinner none of these phone calls were answered. On arrival there was confusion about the booking until it was sorted out that I had already booked. After getting my room although the heater was on the room was very cold. The fact the towel rail in the shower room didn’t work did not help. No toilet rolls also suggested that staff who service the rooms are not as diligent as they could be. It could have been that work was recently completed in the shower room as it had dust on the floor.
Getting a table for dinner was no problem and the food itself was good.
The beds were clean and firm and the sleep was ok.
After checking out I received an e mail from the hotel through hotels.com saying here is your invoice. They have been mailed back asking what invoice however I have had no reply yet.
In summary an OK hotel but not one I would go back to if other alternatives were available.

Hotel was okay but the service was slow especially at Breakfast where we waited so long over 1 hour,we thought it was because it was being cooked to order and when it finally came it appeared to be what was left black pudding would have broken your teeth, sausages un edible as were other items on the plate and it wasn't hot .
3.0
The hotel was a little dated. The room we had was very large and comfortable. The restaurant food was ok but the tables were sticky - not cleaned down properly. There was a small tour group staying but the staff managed to provide good service in the restaurant. Close to the ferry port to Islay so a very transient overnight stop.
