About this house rental
This is the only large holiday house for 10 or more guests on the North West Coast of Sutherland and you would go a long way to find such a luxurious, spacious and yet cosy house. Originally a crofters cottage, the house has recently been extended and refurbished throughout to provide a very high standard of accommodation with 7 bedrooms, 5 of which are en-suite and everything you would expect from a high-end holiday house. For example, there is high speed broadband Wi-Fi throughout the house, Digital TV with Apple TV and a DVD player (with a big selection of films) , a large 4 oven gas AGA, a heated dog room, a games room, bread making machines for those who love the smell of freshly baked bread in the morning and even an ice cream maker. The ever changing and much photographed Clashnessie beach is only 200 yards down the drive and the waterfall (after which Clashnessie is named) is just a short walk up the strath, with lochs for fishing beyond (permit required). There are many walks from the house in all directions, with views of Sutherland's iconic mountains: Quinag, Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Canisp. In addition, sea kayaking, bicycling, horse riding, fly and sea fishing are all available locally. There is excellent Red Deer stalking on the Assynt and neighbouring estates and the Rivers Inver and Kirkaig offer accessible and wild salmon fishing by separate arrangement. Experience Europe's last real wilderness and return to the warmth and comfort of our much loved family holiday home. This is as far from an average holiday let as you can get! Catering is available by separate arrangement with Linda, our housekeeper.

Lovely family home: comfortable lounge, comfortable bedrooms, great showers. Kitchen unbelievably well equipped- imagine having 2 dishwashers- fabulous. Short walk to the most amazing beach with wonderful view from the house. The scenery is spectacular.
Important to do huge food shop at Ullapool or Inverness as local shops not that close and very expensive. The drive to Drumbeg and onto Kylescu has amazing scenery - never seen better but camper vans are a scourge and should be banned.

Inchnafearna is a wonderful place to stay for a family group - comfortable, welcoming and fantastically well equipped. The booking and access process was very easy, with clear instructions. The weather was wet and windy during our week there, but we managed to walk to Clashnessie Falls, trekked up Stac Pollaidh, visited Clachtoll Broch, swam in the bay a few times, had pies from the wonderful pie shop in Lochinver, and took a wildlife-watching boat trip from Ullapool. When the weather was particularly wild, we enjoyed playing games in this cosy home and taking it in turns to cook in the wonderful kitchen. The aga made it particularly welcoming! We would love to visit again.

A fantastic week of walking, swimming and sun. A brilliant location and a great house for a large group.

This is a great house for a crowd with open, welcoming kitchen/living room with a view in an amazing isolated spot overlooking a beach along the NC500. Sheep in the front and the waterfall a wee walk in the back.
Good spot for a family or a big group of friends (lots of twin beds, and nearly all rooms have private bath) with amazing facilities to feed a big group (two dishwashers, two fridges, good pots, pans etc). The AGA kept things toasty, and there were loads of games, books and you can keep connected with fast wifi.
Few quibbles: there was no laundry soap, kitchen sponges, beach towels or shampoo - stuff you need, and that many visitors might expect to find in a rental house in this price bracket.
The instructions about the house and surrounding area seemed somewhat out of date. Garbage dump days had changed, the oyster guy has been out of business "for years" he said. But overall, lovely!

This is a lovely warm, comfortable house with great views out to the beach at Clashnessie Bay. Our group of family/friends thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lairg review
Beautiful spot. Ocean and beach in front. Waterfall behind. Hills to the side covered with heather and lots of little lakes. We picnicked on top of the hills and spent days exploring. I don't think anyone knew about the hills except us because we never saw anyone there. Runners in the family ran the single lane roads into Lochinver to visit the Pie shop and to Drumbeg just because it was there.
There was very little traffic - almost none from about 8:00 pm until 8:00 am. We worry that the North Coast 500 will change that. We had planned to visit tourist spots in the Highlands, but didn't because Clashnessie was too good to leave.
The property manager was wonderful. We were able to hire her to cook and bring us delicious meals.

This is the perfect holiday house for a family which includes grandparents, adult children and grandchildren. The house is spacious and has all the facilities you could possibly need. In fact the equipment is amazing. The house was clean and everything worked efficiently. It is set in the most beautiful scenery with beach, waterfall, mountains to climb and beautiful walks through moors and beside rivers. We could have stayed for ever!

On arrival at the house, we noticed the very long grass in the garden and no swings for the children so the children were unable to play in the garden during our stay. Unfortunately, the grass never got cut even although the housekeeper/owner had arranged for this to be done. The windows in the sitting room and kitchen were very dirty and we couldn't see outside. (after contacting the housekeeper/owner, the windows were cleaned the next day). There was a lot of thick dust on the book/DVD shelves etc in the sitting room which was disappointing.
The Eagle and Deer bedrooms downstairs smelt very damp and the carpets showed areas of dampness and were dirty. Headboards and curtains were tired and dated. All en suites and the bathroom are carpeted which is not hygienic.
It's a super house with loads of space and great that it has so much kitchen equipment, toys for kids etc. The games room was very disappointing as there is no space or room to do anything. (not as pictured on website). The house should be checked for clean windows, grass cut and swings fitted prior to guests arriving.
Also, it would have been useful to have a floor plan in advance, to be able to allocate bedrooms easier.
The responses from the owners and housekeeper were very quick and helpful.
We would definitely recommend this house to people as it's a lovely house and in a beautiful location.

A lovely family reunion week in this extremely comfortable and well appointed property. The views over the bay were superb, and the large open plan living room worked really well for a big group.

Pros: Amazing location!!!! Clashnessie falls at the back of the house and clashnessie bay at the front! Both within walking distance. Sea views were amazing throughout the day! Communication from the owners was very efficient. And we had absolutely everything you could possibly need in the house! Lots and lots of games for the kids to play, so when they weren’t at the beach, they were very well entertained in the house. So many places near by, literally 10 minutes drive. We did not want to leave this place! And would definitely book again
Cons: the open plan kitchen lounge area was way too hot and that was because of a baking oven/stove was continuously on and we were not able to turn it off. So on a warm day it was extra hot. Also the cleanliness of the house was not great. Kitchen was not clean, and certain rooms were dusty and tables were sticky. One particular room had a horrible damp smell, and the window would not open at all, so that did not help

amazing location everything catered for
This property is obviously a well loved and well used property as it has all that you need for being in a wonderfully isolated area. Catering and sleeping large numbers was no problem the accommodation was very comfortable. So much more than on the blurb which took us by surprise (in a good way) - bread makers, fish kettle, picnic stuff, heated wetsuit room, maps and walk books, two fridges, two dishwashers, multi coat hooks I could go on!

Wonderful house in a great location
This is a great property, all very comfortable and spacious and exceptionally well appointed. We had a week of good weather which is not guaranteed but being so close to the beach was great. We swam in the sea, in lochs, kayaked, barbecued on the beach and cycled. Age range from 6 to 80 and everyone enjoyed it., It is remote and 20 mins or so from a shop.

A great place to stay!
Very beautiful house in a wonderful landscape near the beach. The house offers enough space for 14 persons and is very well equipped, especially for the kitchen but also for leisure activities. Really a great place to relax, cook, do hiking trips etc. We even managed to swim in the sea, but therefore you have to be lucky with the weather.

An incredibly comfortable, beautifully furnished house, only yards from a white sandy beach!
We were lucky enough to spend a week in this incredible house as part of a larger group of friends. The house is incredibly well appointed, very cosy, yet unbelievably spacious for a large group of friends and we enjoyed an amazing time there with great weather from start to finish. The house has amazing entertaining space and plenty of bedrooms so we had big family gatherings around the dining table, long hill walks and lots of fun exploring the local beaches by boat. We picked our own mussels, dived for scallops, spotted seals and fished from the boat in beautiful (but rather cold!) turquoise waters...who needs the Caribbean!! Clashnessie is a very special, idyllic hideaway with dramatic views of cinematic calibre in every direction, where one can enjoy getting 'away from it all', breathing in lungfuls of clean, highland air and pinching oneself that this is all on one's doorstep (we live in London!).
I would highly recommend this wonderful house in this jewel of the Scottish landscape. This house and the surrounding area has everything. It is a glorious and very beautiful escape from the real world which offers peace and 'pinch-yourself' scenery coupled with an invitation to explore this dramatic, rugged and completely unspoilt landscape and you leave feeling much better for the experience!

A perfect Easter week in Clashnessie
Superb accommodation in a beautiful location. A couple of minutes walk to the beach kept the young children very happy. Walks up spectacular mountains in the locality for the older members of the family.
The house was superbly kitted out. Spacious kitchen/dining room provided with everything necessary. The AGA was great for the cooking and also kept the dining room/lounge very warm and cosy.
The electric piano was a pleasant and welcome surprise.
All the bedrooms were excellent with en-suite.
The house was very well maintained by Linda Macleod, the housekeeper.
A superb house for a full family get together.

Beautiful setting and so lucky with the weather . What a stunning place this part of Scotland is . The house was perfect - really well equipped and very comfortable for two families . We loved the beach and the waterfalls.

Idyllic
Sat in the beautiful setting of Clashnessie bay this house is like a home from home. With stunning beach and waterfall walks from the doorstep there is no need to get back in the car once you arrive.
The house comfortably accommodates two or three families.

Ideal Large Group/Family Accomodation
We had a large extended family group of 15 covering 3 generations. The property is as presented in the listing. Large, clean, well maintained and very well equipped.
Edward provided excellent support, immediately responding to any questions we had.
Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread ( there are two bread making machines) or sitting in front of the log fire, overlooking the beach, very relaxing.
Beach, waterfalls, plenty of hikes and some really fantastic scenery in the area, so the energetic have plenty to do.
Throughly enjoyed by all.

Ideal Family Retreat
We spent a week at the house with an extended family of 15. The home offers plenty of space. Dual dishwashers, dual washers, fully equipped kitchen down to dual bread machines and even an ice cream machine. The smell of fresh baked bread in the morning was great. Sitting in front of the wood fire in the evening overlooking the beach even better.
Although winter, so many of the area facilities/attractions were closed, there was still plenty to do if you don’t mind a little hiking. Some absolutely stunning scenery in the area. A bit of a drive to reach Clashnessie but well worth the effort.

Paradise for the Brave
This is a holiday house that has everything you need for the perfect experience of arguably Scotland's most stunning region. The house itself is large enough for two or three families to stay in clean and comfortable rooms, and with a large Aga-heated kitchen and communal area. The location is almost impossibly picturesque - a waterfall a short walk behind the house, a beautiful bay and beach in front. It gives door-step access to some of the most stunning scenery and hiking in Europe. The house comes with wetsuits for those brave enough to swim in the clear water of the bay, and if you're lucky you might be joined by a seal or two. Deer, birdlife, highland cows and sheep outnumber people a thousand to one (at least). The location is also historically significant and lies within the Assynt Crofters Trust area. This is Scotland at its best and the house is the perfect home from which to explore or, when the weather decides, stay warm inside with friends and family. It's well worth the journey.

The perfect family holiday house
Inchnafaerna is the perfect family holiday house in the perfect location. This is the second time that our extended family of 14 have holidayed here. The setting could not be bettered, just back from Clashnessie beach and with wilderness, hills and a spectacular waterfall to the rear. The children spent hours in the water and on the beach. We climbed hills, walked, participated in the Assynt Highland games and ate seafood fresh from the fishermen at Lochinver. The house is extremely well equipped in every regard and warm thanks to the large AGA. We love Clashnessie and we shall return.

Wonderful house, in a great location.
We stayed for a week during half term and had a fabulous time. The facilities were first class and the house was very clean and well-maintained. Everything was of the highest specification and the owner was extremely helpful and quick to respond when we had any queries. I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending the house and very much look forward to visiting again.

A wonderfully comfortable and relaxing house in a superb position.
We have just visited Inchnafearna and had the most wonderful week in this very comfortable and relaxing house. There were eight of us and the house easily accomdates this number with most rooms having their own ensuite bathrooms. The house is above a beautiful remote beach and we loved the large living area and kitchen with its spectacular views. Every possible gadget and piece of equipment has been provided and all the booking arrangements and information were very clear. It is in the most superb area with unique scenery and wildlife and all in all we had an amazing week (with plenty of sunshine too!)

Great location, well equipped, recommended
Just as described - well equipped, comfortable and clean. Very handy for the beach, great views. Suited our party of 14 (including 4 kids) very well. Minor problem with hot water was sorted, although not quite as quickly as it could have been. Would recommend it at any time of year for a secluded getaway.

Everything we wanted
A beautifully sited, very well equipped, large house. Room to spread and relax. Great walks from the door and a warm room to gather at night, eat and toast the day.
Loved it!
