We loved the homey feel of the common rooms- the living and dining rooms were so comfortable and conducive to conversation. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The meals were uniformly excellent.
The road to Researchers is a challenge to navigate when it rains.

Lovely surroundings, exceptional service, excellent breakfast.
It was difficult to find.
4.6
Cozy atmosphere, the beautiful garden out the back and comfortable sitting room.
The dinner and breakfast were incredible.
Definitely driving there. The roads are really bad and the Google maps takes you in a roundabout way so definitely contact them to get more accurate directions!

Tastefully and lovingly decorated. Beautifully maintained. The dinner made by Eddie was exquisite. Breakfast was sumptuous too. Full marks for this place.

Although off the beaten track and difficult to find, it was truly a lovely oasis. The staff were attentive and helpful and I was made to feel at home. The breakfast was fantastic!
It took well over an hour for my taxi driver to find the place. maps let us down and no one seemed to know where it was. I was so late that my friend had to cancel our dinner plans.

I chose the Researchers Rest based on previous reviews and their website. They were both very accurate. Eddie, the manager, is a master of hospitality and a GREAT cook. Terrific comfortable stay!

Coffee excellent
Lunch and dinner too
Some more choice for breakfast as some avocado for example

The Researchers Rest is a peaceful and homely place. We loved the attention to details, coziness, and comfort.
Our room was spacious, clean, cool and lovely decorated.
Breakfast and dinner were excellent (great coffee, home made granola, salad..).
The garden is enclosed and well maintained with beautiful flowers.
There is a shaded patio where you can read one of the many books or just watch the turtle strolling around in the garden.
All this is made possible by staff that really cares for the home and guests.
We stayed at several places in and nearby Arusha and this is by far our favorite.
All was great

this place is a hidden gem with great staff and a lovely atmosphere

This delightful house felt like staying in someone's home. It was extremely comfortable, elegantly decorated and scruplously clean. We were so well-looked after and the food was delicious. The kindness of the people working there was probably the highlight – they went out of their way to provide the highest quality service possible. It was a terrific stay.
Nothing. It was a short car ride from the centre of town but that is what we wanted. The consequence was that the location was extremely peaceful and quiet.
4.6
The comfortable feel of the premises and the hospitality.
It was a little out of the way from the city center

My partner and I stayed at the hotel a 1 night before and 1 night after the Safaries. The place was very nice, the staff was very service orianted and the food was great. This is a great place to chill before\after a safari.
The hotel is quite far from everything and there's not much to do in a walking distance.
4.6
The huge avocado tree in the garden, unique interior and amaizing dinner and breakfast.
There was nothing like this.
4.6
Good stop before Safari to have your rest, read some books and have some chill out.

This place is just the most relaxing place on earth. The perfect place to chill the night before or after a safari. Great garden with tortoises living there freely. Fantastic dinner prepared by one of the hotel managers totally worth it. A pure oasis this place with its little library and the sofa area with view to the garden, a very special atmosphere is in the air here that you just have to witness yourself - the pictures don’t do the justice at all. This place is so highly rated for a good reason. Keep up the good work!
As everywhere in Tanzania the internet isn’t the strongest, but it’s too nice here to pick up the phone anyways, so just read a book and put the phone aside.

Everything. Eddie and Joseph are both excellent hosts and cooks. I ate very well. Rooms are so good, garden is great - hot showers, comfortable beds with good pillows, amazing house - and the lounge is so nice to spend some time in. It’s dripping with personality, this place.
It might be a minor quibble for some, but the road to get to the house is difficult even to walk up. So it’s often the case you really have to plan when you leave/get back from town. Under the cover of late-night darkness it’s a case of tuk-tuk to the bottom of the main road, and walk the rest with a torch (quite hastily). And of course, the internet just doesn’t work.

This place is a true gem - to feel like at home, slowly enjoying yourself and definitely having a rest. It is a place with history - if interested, ask the manager Eddie for the details. Researchers’ Rest has unique exquisite details, thoroughly and attentively preserved and kept - starting from bookshelves full of things to read about Africa, to the cutlery and beautiful cups.
Definitely recommended having dinners - absolutely astonishing, so delicious with fresh salad from the garden, amazing fruit and meat/fish. Important note - food preferences are taken into account, therefore there’s no trouble for veggies.
Incredible staff in all aspects!
I wanted to visit one specific coffee plantation, and Eddie helped me to find out all the details, and arrange everything.
And finally .. the garden I was fascinated with and ready to keep on watching turtles and birds walking around freely the whole day.
One more thing - amazing coffee with biscuits ;)
The route to the city center is not hard to find, I made it on foot. The location is convenient for visiting waterfalls, and coffee plantations.

Most important to note is the very cozy atmosphere in the hotel. It feels really good to be there, like a family home in the countryside.
There is a big living room area with comfortable armchairs and couches, facing the open lawn through the bay window.
The staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful. We spent a lot of time with Eddie, who took us to many activities in the area. He is a wonderful person and we are very grateful to have met him.
They also do safari tours, but we didn't try them.
Lastly, we ate at the hotel in the mornings and evenings and the food was delicious every time.
Nothing to dislike

Cooking was excellent
Bit far without car
