Stayed before and will return. Beautiful hotel. Warm and welcoming staff. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.

Excellent attention to detail

It is difficult to rate our stay at Ashdown Park because we never got a chance to stay there. We were in a car accident en route to the hotel that day. We contacted the hotel through Expedia to notify them as soon as possible (approximately 4:30PM) about our travel situation. They delayed the decision on our room charges for a day or two and then informed Expedia and us, that they would be charging us the full amount for both rooms. I realize this is within the rights of their cancellation policy, but it was another downward turn in what had already been a difficult situation.
Needless to say, when we're back in the UK, we won't be staying at Ashdown.

A really enjoyable stay with accommodating staff who were friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit.

Beautiful location to relax and chill And best part you can bring your dog.

Wonderful country retreat. Great service and friendly staff.

Stayed to celebrate a number of family milestones - absolutely beautiful surroundings! Very family friendly , large rooms the indoor pool as a big hit.
Service was slow in the restaurant due to a function and although this was frustrating the staff did their best to reconcile. We will be back 😊

Beautiful hotel, gorgeous views from our room and thoroughly enjoyed eating in the restaurant whilst someone played the piano. The pool was especially tranquil, had it to ourselves the two times we used it. If everywhere had such nice changing facilities I'd swim everyday. Will definitely return.
4.3
This is a beautiful hotel, the building is magnificent with wonderful views. The staff are really good. Dan was particularly helpful with settling us in and advising us. The main restaurant is lovely and breakfast there was excellent.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday with an overnight stay and wasn’t disappointed. The service from when we arrived to check out so first class. We had a meal in the main restaurant which was fabulous, breakfast good too. I would recommend having a massage at the Spa as my husband and I both said how good it was.
4.3
Beautiful grounds and buildings, however let down by very very old tired bathrooms.
Restaurant experience is very nice.
4.3
double charged for child
promised services not delivered
decent breakfast
over expensive and tasteless restaurant - brasserie

Absolutely brilliant place to stay. Snooker, table tennis, pool, spa, golf and even tennis although the rather not permitting on our stay for outdoor activities. Food and drinks superb too. Lovely place would definitely recommend

Lovely stay . The food was very good and we were made very welcome by the staff. However the lighting in our bedroom wasn’t good. We like to read and the only place you could read was in bed. Our bathroom was looking rather dated.

Wonderful, a very special place

This is my 4th visit. The building and lands around it are still gorgeous but the amenities seem to have gone down a little. They no longer have the steam room in the ladies changing room which is a real shame and their spa treatments are just way too expensive, so unfortunately we gave them a miss this time.

Second time staying here...first time Nov 21...enjoyed as much as then. Arrived at 1130 and can use Spa facilities before check-in time... however our room was ready on arrival so we put bags in room and then went off to Spa area Difference in breakfast set up..last time was menu choices taken at table...now buffet help yourself, however just as delicious and lots to chose from...cooked full English, fresh fruits yoghurts. Cereals pastries cheeses smoked salmon, juices .. tea coffee snd toasts bought to your table. . Staff very attentive over the weekend . Bed turn down service in evening very nice touch.

We come to this hotel quite frequently but this is the first time we booked through Expedia. Not Expedia's fault but the room we had was a tiny one with a small double bed, the TV remote didn't work properly so had to press the buttons on the TV, the shower control fell off. We have had a good experience in the past, but this time fell well below the level we have had in the past for the money we spent.
The restaurant was excellent as ever, although there was one waiter who seemed very eager to please, almost un-genuine. Difficult to say, but I certainly don't expect anyone to bow to me at a hotel.

Booked this for my husband’s birthday and upon arrival we were so impressed at the hotel grounds and it’s a beautiful setting. We arrived and sat down for a drink. It took us a long time to find someone to serve us and we sat outside where all the tables were either dirty or had glasses left there for some time. We ordered 2 orange juices and lemonade and it came to a staggering £20.70! Just couldn’t believe it. The hotel emailed me the bill before checkout and I replied saying that amount was ridiculous for 2 soft drinks but they didn’t reply. A couple of members of staff were a little abrupt and overall sensed some disengagement. It was a shame as it was a rare weekend away but it wasn’t as I expected sadly so I wouldn’t return.

Was placed in a room that was unbelievable far from the main entrance. No lift for luggage and it had a terrible buzzing noise from a boiler that made us change rooms so we could sleep. Was placed next to a room with a crying baby at 5 AM.
Spoke with the staff about our disappointment and unacceptable room allocation. They said sorry.
4.3
The hotel was absolutely stunning and the grounds were gorgeous. It felt like a real luxury place. Our room was huge (deluxe) with a gorgeous jet bath. Although the decor is very dated, it didn’t take away from the experience. The view from our room was magical. The breakfast was delicious and such good quality.
4.3
Pretty average. Place is showing signs of tiredness. Could do with an update throughout.

Most staff especially Paul was welcoming hospitable knowledgeable and engaging, except unfortunately the young lady receptionist who was argumentative and inappropriately took method of payment

It's a shame that the owners do not keep care of this hotel. It is a beautiful park, castle and there is quite a lot one could enjoy here at the right time of the year. However, the hotel seemed very lonely during our visit. The rooms need a good cleaning. With exception of only one member we encountered in the tea room, the staff is not at all trained or polished. Unfortunately we were there at a very warm time and the hotel was not a all prepared to deal with this kind of weather. They offered us a fan that was about strong as a light whistle blowing. After further pursuing the matter, the second day we were told that there were rooms with air conditioning, in fact. This after we spent a night in a room where the temp measured 87 degrees fahrenheit. Again, a sever lack of understanding from the staff. I would Recommend a stop by from anyone in the area to see the gardens and the building itself, but find another hotel to stay and you will be much happier.

I have stayed here many times and always enjoyed it but the hotel seems to have dropped their standards. The interior of the hotel was looking tired with flaking window frames and sills. In my room the curtains would not close, the light above the sink was broken so shaving was difficult and the wi fi was very poor. The bar was being run by only one girl and probably needed two more helpers.
4.3
What I liked:
The views and nature.
Did not like:
On site is restaurant is way over priced for the quality
golf equipment is old and worn out
Pay for 4 star luxury and get 3 star results

I'll start with the staff who are super friendly and very helpful.
Unfortunately the standard of the hotel is definitely not 4 stars and we were really disappointed. It's an old hotel and I can understand renovations are challenging but we have paid a very high price (over 500gbp per night) and it felt like a waste of money. What bothered us: king size bed that in fact was 2 mattresses put together - very uncomfortable, no basic kettle / coffee machine in the room, no AC in the room, food was horrible at breakfast and despite having to book it, by the time we arrived there was barely anything left and it all looked horrible - left overs and dropped pieces of food on the buffet table not cleaned up - just disgusting frankly. The hotel smells badly in different parts of it - gives a horrible impression as you walk through it.
What we liked: beautifully maintained garden and grounds around the hotel and staff service. Sadly that's all we liked.
4.3
House keeing absolutely superb. We were so well looked after. Service in restaurant outstaning. Food first class.
4.3
Overall we had a nice time. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food and drinks were good. Our stay was however impacted by the fact that the room hadn't been cleaned when we entered (a mis-communication between Front Desk and Housekeeping I think they said) and that the bed was broken, which obviously we didn't find out until bedtime. There was also cobwebs and dirt in places that you wouldn't expect if a thorough inspection of these sorts of things was being done - e.g. chandeliers in the fancy dining room and what looked like dried blood over the wall in the downstairs ladies toilets. So overall it felt like the bones of the hotel were good, but more attention was needed to the detail, as it's not a cheap place to stay.
4.3
Lovely stay. Staff polite and pleasant. Buffet breakfast unfortunately cold.
4.3
The property is stunning and location beautiful
Staff tried really hard but waiting staff were totally chaotic. Had to order wine for dinner 4 or 5 times, only to be told it had run out. Arriving at dinner we weren’t greeted for ages, then sent out into the holding bar, only for other couples to be seated first.
The rooms a little dated for the price
The golf is fun and very cheap. Nice pool
4.3
Lovely setting and interior. All round great place to stay!
4.3
In fact a very good, nice and relaxing hotel with a very good restaurant, serving very good prepared quality food. Only, the service in restaurant, was below average. The quantity of servers seemed more important than their quality.
4.3
Shabby, dirty, poor service, broken jacuzzi , not really a spa (no sauna or steam room) and items added to restaurant bill that were not delivered as they didn’t have them!
4.3
DBB rate was not great value. Mould in the hot tub area. The main house is gorgeous and the grounds incredible.
4.3
Disappointing. Doesn’t meet expectations. Positioned as a luxury hotel, featured in johansens (Conde Nast), but in reality it’s a marvellous building that houses a jaded hotel with relatively unkempt grounds. Most fixtures and fittings are from the 90’s with few meaningful updates. It reminds me of the architectural refits of old buildings in the 80’s/90’s with an oversupply of security-glass fire doors, oddly dissected rooms and nasty carpets. Maintenance clearly keep on top of this well - a Herculean task - but that’s not enough. The hotel needs money spent on the aesthetic. Most importantly, coordinated by a fresh and dynamic pair of eyes. Wasn't expecting Lime Wood…
The exterior is imposing and grand. Unfortunately the arrival experience was weak. The entrance to the hotel features a council office style rubber welcome mat, half obstructed by a plywood ramp that might be suitable for a slimline golf trolley or roller cabin bag? Reception welcome was underwhelming. Not intuitive or engaging. Oddly, if you book a master suite (the best room/suite, but with dubious allocation) you get given a room number, no acknowledgement of a suite booking and you’re sent off with the porter. Nothing special, person centred or rate appropriate about the experience.
Did I complain during my stay? No. I felt the reception staff were disinterested. On check-out, did they ask if we enjoyed or stay? Any conversation at all? No.
F&B staff is good.
More to say, but there’s no more space.
4.3
Room large & comfortable. The Full English breakfast was the best I have had for a long time! I stay in at least one hotel nearly every week so I'm in a position to judge!
4.3
Very nice stay.

We had a wonderful stay that included two excellent meals and a lovely afternoon at the spa. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful grounds and chapel with its unique stained
glass windows. Although not cheap this hotel is incredibly good value for money.
