A very grand very tired looking hotel. Budget style so you get what you pay for.
We had a 4 bedroom fanily suit for 3 of us and it worked out good value for money. Hotel staff seemed reluctant to want to give us replacement loo roll and tea bags even though we were staying for 4 nights. The cleaning and security staff were super friendly, the reception staff were extremely rude during the whol check in and for asking for extras.

Amazing foyer, so grand, but once you leave the open public areas you quickly see the lack of investment. The corridors are dated, and our room was basic and clearly not updated in a very long time. No plugs next to the bed, lamps wired directly into the walls and no main light in the room. The duvet had a hole in it. Lack of plug sockets in general, thankfully we brought a power bank. The bathroom was poor, the bath was chipped and clearly very old, the shower was connected to bath taps, the mirror had no anti-mist, toilet paper was clearly the cheapest they could buy, and the bathroom door and frame had been painted over so many times it was difficult to close it. There were marks on the doors possibly due to damage from previous guests. The room was clean and smelt nice as we entered. There was a window panel missing from the inner panels, resulting in noise from the street below being quite loud.
Overall it is such a shame that there is chronic lack of investment as the building itself is gorgeous, but my word the rooms are a world apart from that area.
Thankfully we paid just £50 for a 1 night stay, anything more and I'd be asking for a discount to be honest.

No water at the hotel and no real help or offer of compensation payed for two rooms

They made it difficult to check in and were rude in the process. Setting a poor start to a weekend. Best thing about this hotel was the other one down the road

Hotel was lovely, let down only by the lady on reception, who was not very welcoming.

Felt like staying in a prison. Security on the door in the evening were like bouncers in a night club.
No DO NOT DISTURB signs for room door. Member of reception staff burst in to my room in the middle of the afternoon without knocking whilst I was having a nap and woke me up. Goodness knows why! Staff all had attitude plus. It’s cheap for a reason. I won’t be going back.

Although the entrance and staircase are as grand as I’ve seen the rooms were definitely lacking. There were too few plugs and the kettle and table were too far away from any of them to use it unless it were placed on a chair. The rooms are not cleaned daily, the shower went hot and cold at will, the windows are almost black with dirt, the walls are as thin as paper and the noise coming from somewhere in the hotel kept us awake most of the night.

It was fine as I was not spoilt for choice hotel wise that night. Check in was okay, ok staff, but the surprise on my face when I had been transported back to the late 90s because there was no free WiFi in the rooms. The stone hard pillows and no alternatives was upsetting, but I folded a blanket and put it in the pillow case and managed some sleep.
I hope I am never so desperate as to stay in this hotel again - despite it's amazing location.

Check in was a nightmare. Multi layer of proving who you were. Huge queues. So many issues for most guests checking in. Inconsistent T&Cs on website compared to arrival. Room old and dated. Very small window high up. Couldn’t see out. Not much daylight. Bathroom had a puddle on the floor. It never dried!! Marble steps outside are lethal. It had been raining. They were very slippery. Most people were slipping and several fell. When we came back to the hotel at 11pm the security guard demanded our key cards, name and room number - just like a military order! We had only been given one but he got right in my 17 year old daughter’s face causing her great distress. She wasn’t given one but he didn’t believe us. So rude and intimidating, especially for a young girl! We won’t be going back again!

The room was not ready for check in at the given time, we had to wait for over an hour to get it cleaned, which led to frustration and stress.
We didn’t any compensation, and they couldn’t offer us another room when we asked at the front desk.
That’s not the start of the long weekend we paid for.
On the other hand the doorman was the right man in the right place, helping us as tourists pointing out directions and giving great advice, always in a polite tone and with a smile.
The hotel itself was a bit over average, I’d say. Location is perfect, close both to the railway station and city center.

Basic room quite clean and fine for an overnight stay that was more about meeting friends and being out and about although the room rate was very expensive for the quality of room and hotel overall.

Large hotel in Mcr centre, only one lift working, couldn't get wifi! Other than that, nice room and bathroom - if a little dated. Hotel lobby and stairs are beautiful! For the cost in central Manchester this is a good option, but you will have to put up with a few 'wrinkles'!! Lots of parking nearby, not cheap but local to hotel

The Britiannia is a hotel of two halves. Downstairs in the lobby, bar and restaurant it has a wonderfully evocative interior. Unfortunately, the bedrooms are more basic, even for an old building. It's fine for a business trip, but I would only go for the bar and restaurant if it was a more special occasion. The room does not have an iron and the decor is tired. Facing the street with poor insulation it's inevitably noisy. I can't fault the staff at reception and behind the bar.

It was a good experience staying at this hotel and was very clean. Only issue i had was they dont have a bell boy to carry your luggage. Reasonable and everything is close by.

Hotel was absolutely fine. Cleanliness was great and room was very comfortable.
The only issue was, tried checking in after 3pm, as was required, but room was not ready, so had to wait for housekeeping to make ready. That was a bit if a pain.

You get what you pay and sometimes a bit more. This room was really cheap and definitely good value for money for one of us who, the one who isn't picky when it comes to beds. If weighs a little more or move around in your sleep, the beds can be an issue. That said the room was clean and was very quiet even though we slept with the skylight open (we lived on the top floor in a windowless room).
Recommended if you are primarily looking for a room to sleep in and are not picky when it comes to beds.

It would help if the second lift was working and the staff had a list of quests names on display to check when asked for a specific person.

Receptionist are cold or dismissive.
Not having a computer system, but printed out bookings, that as neither in alphabetical order, nor by date, is antiquated.
There's stickers galore in the bathroom with an array of colours. The number of warnings printed on cardboard cards is a joke too.
If guests are playing around with the fire alarms in the rooms, they should get a fine, not a warning not to do so.
The key card needed to be validated each day, which is beyond stupid, as not only am I staying for more than one day, I've already paid for it!!!
No wifi in the rooms is so old fashioned, it's almost a trip down memory lane (one can buy access, which means it's there, Britannia are just cheapskates).
The rooms are alright, and the cleaning is well done (yes, I checked for dust on top of the mirror, tv etc, plus corners were clean), but there's paint stains on the bathroom florr. That's just sloppy, as it would take five sheets of toilet paper and about four seconds to wipe away.
The pamphlet with the hotels history looks like a cheap menu.
And here's probably the worst thing; they write about the history of the building, but they've also given space to Agatha Christie, which apparently has stayed in the previous owners recidence in Cheshire!!!! WHO CARES!!!???
The Britannia used to be a good hotel in the 90's and still looks great, I think, but jeeez it's gone down hill in so many ways.
Cleaners and doormen deserved praise, the rest should find something else to do

Mentioned twice about no hot water in the room. Advice was to run it for 15 minutes before getting in a 3 minute shower. They obviously don't have adequate heating equipment. Having a lack of heated water can pose a terrible health risk.

We have previously stayed in this hotel on a couple of occasions and found it quite pleasant and appropriately priced. This time we booked the price was a little higher but as we hadnt had any problems in the past we was happy to book . The room air conditioning kept coming on about every 20 mins and made the room very cold and was fairly noisy . We stayed in November so didnt feel the need for the air con but it made the night very cold and made our aleep unsettled. There was a side table slotted between the bed and wall but it was too big for the bed, which as we spent the night out didnt realise untill we returned late to the room. The table made sleep very uncomfortable as rested into the bed

First step they says oh upgrade your room with this offering etc because they don't have what i booked already and after that they gave same room which is they trying for extra money free which is good.
2nd step goes in room hairs on bed and hairs on the towel probably previously persons means cleaning staff no done there job properly and no room service also asked about heating because room was cold been refused for because they have a set timings when heating turned on i think it should be in the residence hand when they want to on or off noisy rooms also. Won't be back

The hotel looked impressive outside and in the reception. Reception staff were very helpful, quick and helpful, great experience. Room had all the basics and was clean. Breakfast was disappointing, few items were not available and chef was not really interested.

Highly officious and deeply unfriendly check-in. I should have left at that point. It's more like trying to get into a nightclub than being welcomed into a hotel. Hideous experience. An unnecessary ID process was happening next to me with a party of five respectable women attempting to check in. One had forgotten her ID and was being made to jump through ridiculous hoops when she had credit cards with her and other items that made it perfectly clear who she was. Remember your photo ID.
Room on the 5th floor. Lifts great. It has a very splendid staircase. I paid a low rate for the room but that doesn't justify the terrible accommodation. Bathroom fine. Bed ok. Pillow terrible, like trying to sleep on a rugby ball. The window is very high, not in good condition. Self-checkout, no goodbye, no one gave a damn—hideous experience. I'm in Manchester again next week and will avoid it like the plague and book somewhere else.

The worst 55 pound I ever spend in UK. Practically the bare minimum in the so called hotel. Even a tiny easy hotel is superior in service. Please don’t stay in this hotel for whatsoever.

Arrived early at Britannia Hotel and they kindly allowed me to check in ahead of time. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Great experience overall!
