We stayed Friday for 1 night while visiting the Christmas markets. Great hotel and spa formerly the money. We paid for dinner bed and breakfast and ate in the Fat Abbot on site pub. Bus to York took about 30 mins and was every 15 minute £2 each way.

Two night stay for some Xmas shopping. Room clean and comfortable, nice touch with the Elemis toiletries. Enjoyed using yeh spa facilities and lovely meal at The Fat Abbot next door. Have stayed here a few times and it’s always pleasant.

We stayed for my birthday on a two night stay on arrival we were given a cottage apartment away from the hotel which we hadn’t booked so after complaining we’re given a room in the annexe which was clean and comfortable the receptionist on arrival was not helpful at all with very limited information about the hotel
The hotel needs a refurbishment and some of the staff were not friendly at all ( but not all)

The room was located directly over the Friar Tuck pub. After consulting with reception regarding noise in the evening, I Was told music ends at 9pm. So no need to swap rooms. This wasn’t the case whatsoever as it finished as expected around 11.15pm. Reception wasn’t interested when informed!

Staff looked sick of their life. Room was cold and radiator control broken so couldn’t turn it up . Waited on hold for 10 minutes to contact receptionist. Room was dated and tired. Hairdryer was faulted smelled of burning and screeching. Reported on check out. Spa was nice. Fat Abbot restaurant on site only served Sunday roast menu on Sunday so had to eat at Thai restaurant next door which was lovely.

It was chilling night away. Spa good however sound rooms not as hot.

The customer service at check in/check out was so poor I can only liken it to going through border control except even then I would receive eye contact from the guards! One of our party travelled separately and had exactly the same experience so sadly not a one off. This gave us a terrible first and last impression which is sad as not reflective of the rest of the staff we encountered during our stay who were all friendly, polite and efficient.
Our room was spacious with comfy bed, the decor was a little tired and as per other reviews the bathroom had smashed floor tiles and clumsy repairs but the shower was hot and powerful.
Breakfast was great and we liked the buffet style.
The spa and pool was an added bonus and the main reason I booked this hotel along with the convenient location.

Was a lovely stay, we really enjoyed the size of the room, the breakfast and the facilities. Only downside for us, is we had to walk through 2 seperate weddings to get to our room which made us feel awkward and rude. Would suggest a seperate entrance for hotel guests.
Also TV would be better if we were able to use the smart TV functions.

Lovely building, our room ok but bathroom needs a renovation toilet panel falling off sink loose and hot tap making a high pitch noise

Lovley looking hotel. Good food at the local pub. Unfortunately the pub was so full i had to eat very early. Could order room service but £4.50 is a excessive

We both really enjoyed our visit this week, particularly the spa and the breakfast both of which are of a really high standard.
As guests we both felt very welcome, the room was good and well cared for, the walls were not too sound proof but that guest in the other room wasn't making a noise late at night so it wasn't an inconvenience.
If i was to make a suggestion it would be to allow the use of the spa a couple of hours before the 2pm check in as this would have made our stay perfect 👌

Room was quite dated & basic for the price. I was put in the lodge where the walls are paper thin as the person in the next room was snoring & it was like they were in my room with me, also a tv was on in the room next door at 7am so not much sleep, breakfast was average. Tired drive back to London

We arrived with expectations of coming to a 4* hotel after looking at your web page on Hotels.com.
It soon became apparent that the room 12 allocated was nothing like we were expecting. The room was dark, dingy and cold. There were issues with the room and we complained to 2 members of staff and asked to be moved. This we were told was not possible due to a wedding party taking up most of the hotel. Because we were with family, who were allocated a room of better standard we stayed.
We soon heard running water, which transpired to be a problem with the toilet cistern, your members of staff didn’t have a clue how to fix this and getting a plumber wasn’t available. My husband temporarily fixed this.
The lourve doors were ineffective for a bathroom and dangerous. The shower screen did not fit correctly to the bath and water leaked through and on to the floor, after climbing out I slipped on the wet floor before realising water was there.
There was no hot water from the taps, no heating if you required, although it would not have worked as there was no rad valve on. The windows were not secure with parts missing.
The shower isolator switch pull cord is missing, which is against electricity regulations for a hotel. This room is certainly not worth the £144 we paid. We then complained again at reception on checkout, as it was a different person, she told us to write the faults down as she could do nothing as no manager available.

Hotel was busy and full on the Saturday as it also hosted a wedding. We were located in the coach house away from the main building which was fine. Breakfast was friendly service and plentiful

Sadly the pool was out and that was the main reason for us visiting that particular hotel

Had a lovely stay at this hotel. What a beautiful setting, the grounds were impressive and the location means it’s easy to hop onto a bus into York.
The on site pub was convenient after a relaxing visit to the spa.
My room was in a quiet location with lovely views. The only negative was the room was a bit chilly on waking.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would stay here again.

Hotel was nice and clean, pool and leisure facilities were good. Had 1 issue where somehow the window in the room opened between check in and returning to room. Reception adamant nobody had been in the room. I took a photo of the view from the window as I left the room, therefore showing the window was closed. Reception advised that they spoke to the manager but they did not come to me, just asked reception to report that nobody had been in. So how did the window open?

The property requires the decor updating and in the room we occupied there was mould on the tiles at the base of the bath. We stayed for two nights and used the tea and coffee facilities on the first day. On the second day we were out all day and found that the tea facilities had not been replaced and no maid service had been in the room.

It’s hard to rate as we didn’t get to stay in the hotel,we were shipped off to above the pub, every time someone washed there hands in the pub toilets we heard it,as well as the music, but it did stop at 11 pm, but was back the day after, the shower screen has a gap between it and the bath so every time you showered it flooded the bathroom.
No Wi-Fi, in the rooms above the pub, and you then have to brave the weather to go for breakfast, as it’s in the hotel
On a positive note the room was clean, and the food was good for breakfast and also in the fat abbot the food was excellent ,and the staff where ward and friendly once the music stopped we slept well

Beautiful property located just south of York within a rural location which was perfect.
The spa was a great and breakfast in the morning was really really good with a great selection of food and very attentive friendly staff!

We arrived on sat 31st August , there was a wedding being held which was fine but as we wanted a drink in the bar before our meal it felt like we were in the way , no lemonade for a mixer had to find some and no ice as they had ran out! Half way through our warm drink a young waiter appeared and asked have you done with those, I think he meant the glasses but still half full, as we payed to stay in a 4 star hotel I would have expect a better standard, the hotel looks very tired around the edges , bath panel rotten, wall paper stained and ripped, the pool area was rusty on the steelwork and carpets with faded tape covering holes. So all in all not impressed and wouldn’t recommend find a proper 4 star hotel instead.

Lovely setting in a old manor property. Full use of spa facilities upgrades to an average experience the otherwise lackluster things. No toiletries other than small bar of soap. Went to ask for more and they could not find any. Bath tub was very dirty upon arrival along with dust and cobwebs throughout room. Room very hot despite a cool day outside and desk fan on througout. Service was slow in the breakfast (buffet style but had to flag a server for coffee despite being there quite a while. Observed others in same situarion) and dining room.

This was a trip to mark our 53 wedding anniversary and my 76 birthday.
We were impressed by the style and surroundings of the hotel. Service was exellent. Very friendly. Very comfortable lounge. Nice outside space. The room was very comfortable. On the down side we had no hand rail in the bath shower. And found the hotel a bit too quiet. But overall we had a nice stay.

had a lovely stay grounds and gastro pub fab, room was quite tired but clean and the bed was comfortable, view from the window was nice.
The breakfast was lovely the only issue we had was flies in the pub on the terrace and even in the room but that was our fault it was such a lovely day we opened the window

The location was easy to get to York town centre. The spa was very disappointing. The spa area had no hot water. The sauna was cold. No notice was given of this issue. Work required to the property. Window latch’s broken and gaps in the windows in our room.

Would definitely stay again, room was very nice and very clean. Breakfast excellant if a little pricey. Lovely setting. Evening meal in the adjoining building was good but could have been better. Calamari not great in the starter, Mange Toute raw and the bottle of Shiraz we ordered was poor.

This our second visit to The Parsonage, and we were just as thrilled to stay there this time. It's in a beautiful setting with a well-maintained private, lawned garden to the side and rear. The rooms are of a good size and very clean and well presented.
The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. Once again, Elaine proved just how suited she is to hospitality. Cheerful, friendly and very helpful, she is a great ambassador for The Parsonage.
The Fat Abbot serves lovely food and is so convenient. A real treat.
We've already booked our stay in August 2025. The Parsonage is a great find. We wouldnt want to stay anywhere else. Great value, great service, great venue.

Check In: Waited at the reception desk for 20 minutes before we even saw a staff member. There were multiple other people also waiting. Turns out there was a wedding on and the ONE person working on reception was running around the whole property to check if rooms were ready as house keeping were not communicating back. Everyone's check-in was late, and some wedding guests didn't get into their rooms until 2.30 or later with the wedding due to start at 3pm. The guy himself was trying his best, but had no help or support from anyone else. I think we got to our room almost 90 minutes late.
Hotel Room: TV Remote didn't work. Room is outdated and was also dirty. All cups were dirty and most of the room hadn't been wiped down in months. To sleep you have a choice of listening to a constant loud buzzing should you keep your key card inserted, or if you want no lights or anything else to work until morning, you can remove the card and the buzzing stops, but so does everything else.
Breakfast: Walk in to a sign that says wait to be seated. To wait and then be shouted by the person on reception to just walk in. Again no staff anywhere. ALL cups dirty once again. Raised this to the staff who mocked my wife for the way she spoke and then came back to say we can't find any clean ones so these will have to do.
Check out: Tried charging me again as their system was down so just guessed. They called me later for outstanding charges. But still can't pay as nobody every answers the phone!

Was unable to sleep till gone midnight due to loud music and bottles being dumped in the bin. Told reception for them to turn round and say what do you expect the races were on and we are hosting a wedding.
