This lodge and spa is located in a valley between two mountain ranges at about 5000 feet (compared to Monte Verde 4300 feet) and is considered to be within the range of cloud forest. When we arrived, we were checked in and the host was very nice but failed to give us clear information of how to navigate the privately owned cloud forest with very hilly resort location and four water falls all within the property. Even though we mentioned that my wife is just recovering from knee surgery he completely ignored the fact. It was very cloudy and misty, and we wanted to finish the waterfall trail that evening. There are no clearly marked trail makers, nor the maps given were accurate. Maps were schematic and could not be relied upon for trekking. When my wife and I followed the trail, we reached a fork and had to decide to take either the mystery trail or melody trail. The map or the board showed no information on the level of difficulty. Our check in host just mentioned that they were both in a loop. We took the melody trail which turned out to be a big mistake and we struggled a lot in the hiking. This could have been easily avoided by any indication of difficulty levels by the guide, signboard, or the map. In any case, we made it. The waterfall was just OK, luckily while returning we took the mystery trail which was much easier and well paved though at some forks there were no sign. I do wish the property will improve so the visit will be much better for others in future.

Amazing experience at El Silencio. Staff are very welcoming. I especially enjoyed the bird walk with Jose. Very passionate about the tour. The restaurant was delicious and everything was fresh and prepared perfectly.

Amazing stay! The location is beautiful and so peaceful. The waterfalls are in walking distance and only accessible to hotel guests which made it feel like we had the entire area to ourselves. Everyone was friendly and accommodating to us. They even let my husband request a special meal for his birthday. We will be back.

The property is expertly maintained. The amenities were good. They are currently under construction, adding a new gym and yoga platform. The restaurant had amazing food with excellent service. The spa was very relaxing.

Property is huge and has direct access to 3 waterfalls and you can even swim in one of these. There is just one restaurant but the food is superb! Fireplace in the lobby and in some of the suites is a cherry on top. Because it's so isolated the only sounds you here on your deck are birds and river rushing below. Hot tub on the deck is also great - it's your own, so there are no chemicals added

Staying at the hotel was amazing we enjoyed our time very much. Room was big and comfy with great maintenance from cleaning staff and an overall amazing experience of service from all of the hotel staff. Unfortunately some of the hotel was under construction and our room was close enough to hear some of the construction during the day, although sound insulation in the room was great.

The resort is beautiful. The spa offers excellent treatments. The yoga classes adjusted for the level and experience of the participants. The restaurant provided very healthy local dishes and the activities around the resort were great. The staff was always welcoming, helpful, and truly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Highly recommend.

This is definitely a gem of a spot. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and cozy. The grounds are very private and serene. The food was fresh and excellent. I was disappointed because of two reasons not related to the property itself: 1) I called ahead because my girlfriend had to get back to the airport for a late night flight (not an easy drive to the airport from here). I asked whether we should come earlier and could she get a shuttle back to the airport when it was time, instead of us killing all day waiting for her flight. They said no problem...except that evening when it came time for the shuttle the price increased by $100. What were we going to do? You have to pay it. 2) This property is NOT walking distance to the Poas volcano. If you're not familiar with the area and you want to see the volcano it's over an hour drive from here. Listed clearly on hotels.com is '35 minute walk' and that is completely false. If you're hoping to stay here because it's close to Poas you should find somewhere else

I have spent the trip home trying to articulate the profound and delightful experience I had at El Silencio. I came away feeling rested, rejuvenated, healed, and loved. Its not the food, or the amenities, or the activities, or the luxuries - although those were all wonderful and amazing. In the end it was the people. Every single member of the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were happy, cared for, comfortable, and enlightened by our stay. They are so proud of their country and their resort and they couldnt wait to share all they had to offer in the most authentic way. The key is to surrender to the experience and let go of your own expectations. Then let the rain forest work its magic!

The staff and accommodations were like being cradled in a loving mother{s arms. The food felt like a whole new experience. You could taste the freshness and the love and care that went into each preparation. Fresh squeezed pineapple juice with in'house grown spearment at our complimentary breakfast. Yum!

Cesar, Benicio, Sergio, Sergio the horseman and Orlando made an awesome experience. Each unit has an amazing rainforest view and as each afternoon rainstorm comes through, this makes for a very romantic setting with a huge plateglass window at the toe of the bed. We did all the hikes including the challenging twin falls hike and shorter loops around the property. Take Benicio on the day hikes and also as your equeatruan guide. The horses are very well trained and extremely well-cared for and feed them a little pina and yiu will make their day. There is nothing about this place i would change. The restaurant cuisines will blow you away as well.... top shelf. This was my fiurth eco trip to costa rica and I appreciated the pace and sheer relaxation here.
