Great location, super friendly staff, good food and drinks

I booked the Hope Hotel for myself and my partner, with my friends booking a separate room. Together we paid a total of over £200. When we checked in, we were taken out of the hotel, and down the road to a ‘guesthouse’ which was effectively a student accommodation. The room was dirty, the lights were covered in dusk and cobwebs. The bathroom floor hadn’t been cleaned so it made my feet dirty, so I had to clean it myself. Following this, the shower didn’t work. The owner tried to tell us breakfast would ‘be over by 8:45’ when all signage said 9:30.
My friends room was just as dirty, their shower did not drain so after one of them showered, no one else could. Their window was broken open so the room was freezing.
My friends complained and received a refund pf £30, which didn’t even cover the charge for breakfast. We were given nothing. This was raised with hotels.com and the hotel said that the £30 was for BOTH rooms? And refused to do anything about it.
The owner was rude and dismissive. The check in staff and bar staff however are lovely, though seem to be working with the best they have.
Avoid, better off in a chain that deals with things when they do go wrong

I like the fact that the property is right the at the heart of the sea and all the exciting activities to do. The down side is the fact that the hotel do not have leaflet of taxis, tours or any other relevant information to facilitate customers moving around or eat out.

27 pounds to park for 1 night was far too much for us

Arrived & was walked out to a guest house that is only comparable to a morbid student house. Horrendous, low quality furniture, not clean & generally uncomfortable to be in.

Mixed feelings really. We booked the hotel as it was on the seafront. However on checking in we were shown to our room which wasn't actually on the seafront but 5 mins up the road next door! This is not good when all your friends are in the main hotel & so is the breakfast hall.
The positives were that the staff were really friendly, breakfast was good, our room was a good size, fully equiped, came with sky should we have needed it & the beds & pillows were comfy.
However the room got very hot & the two fans provided were not good enough to cool it down. The key to the front door of the building was also dodgy & it took us ages to open the door on both occasions.
For the price it was good value but i would have preferred to have been told before hand that we were not staying in the main hotel & feel this should be mentioned when booking.

I booked a hotel room and on arrival after booking in we were walked up the road to a rundown guest house, the condition of the room was unbelievable curtains not hung draw fronts hanging off cracked tiles in bathroom toilet flush handle broken the list goes on! No tv remote which they said would be replaced. Had to book out and rebook new hotel at vast expense.. Horrendous!!

Overall we had a good stay. We had a room with a beautiful view out to sea but unfortunately it was only a standard room which meant we didn’t have our own bathroom. The sheets were crisp and clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, it is a beautiful old building which is very much in need of a refurb.

Only wrong thing is the shower plug is blocked and the cold water running hot

The room was tidy, tv wasn't working neither was the WiFi unfortunately, but I had nice room with a amazing sea view, if the rooms tv and WiFi worked I would definitely give it 10 out of 10! But even though it wasn't perfect I would stay again.

Paid for a deluxe king room in the hotel. After checking in was taken to a house 5 min walk away that resembled student accommodation. Grubby, uninviting, small bed and tiny bathroom. Breakfast was ok.

I was expecting a sea view in a hotel, instead I got a view of a messy garden in a grubby bed sit away from the main building

I was surprised to find we weren’t allocated a room in the actual hotel, instead 200yds away in a terraced house converted into hotel rooms. The room itself was fine if a little tired. Bed was comfortable, smart TV was connected. It was a hot day, and the room was hot, but there were two large fans. The curtains were missing some hooks, and the curtain rail system was damaged. The cold tap in the en-suite ran piping hot before turning cold.

Booked a deluxe king room with en-suite at the Hope hotel for our wedding night. we did not get to stay here, they walked us up the road about 5 minutes away from the actual hotel to a house made up of rooms, the room itself was clean and staff were nice and gave us a bottle cava and hade placed hearts and petals around room. The room smelt a little damp, the bed was 2 singles pushed together so they kept coming apart through the night, the fridge was dirty and had black mould, the shower was really hot or cold with low pressure, the room did not have a fan even though it’s quite warm and as soon as you walked out of your room the whole house and hallway stank of smoke where people are smoking inside! We did have a late check out but left around 10am

My room stank of cigarettes. Unfortunately it really did put me off as a nonsmoker and for my kid. The cleanliness was poor. The bed was made but everything else was dirty. Shower wasnt cleaned. Around the sink wasn't cleaned. It didn't look like anyone has vacuumed either. Found bits of dirt everywhere. Did they honestly think noone would notice they skipped the cleaning?

Local hotel on seafront
Cheap & cheerful
What you get is what you see

So if you’ve seen any of the pictures at this hotel you’d think it was a fantastic place to stay. Which I imagine it is if you get put in one of the rooms that is shown on the advert. Because they must be available as I’ve seen other reviews with photos.
We were not. Just look at the photographs. The rooms are not the same.
It was unclean, there is only a communal bathroom available which should be advised as I would never have agreed to that out of personal choice. The hallway smelt of faeces, everything was old, damaged and unloved. Strange brown handprints on the wall, showered smelt vile, tattered flooring and furniture. Rusting radiators and generally vile appearance.
When we asked for a refund as this was not as advertised it was refused.
If you have two different types of rooms, make people aware. Because we had friends staying at the same place, and they went to the nice part and their room was great, had their own bathroom, as the photos described and it was cheaper than ours.
So yeah if you want to flip a coin and potentially stay in a dive that makes you hate life. Crack on.
If not, book elsewhere.
