About this house rental
Do you value history, have an eye for design and would love to stay near all the local attractions in Reykjavik?
Then this property might be just right for you. This fine home is nestled in a quiet residential street within easy walking reach of Reykjavik downtown, where you will find the best restaurants and the key tourist attractions.
The house was built in 1939 as a single family residence, and as such, it is a substantial property in art deco style in one of the earlier settlements of Reykjavik. It is now split into two separate apartments and this is the upper two-floor apartment.
It is ideal for a family stay and it includes all the comforts and amenities of modern life, whilst still retaining the original character and features.
There are two large bedrooms and one for a smaller child. The master bedroom has a super king size bed (180*200cm), the second bedroom has a small double bunkbed (140*190cm - the upper bed is suitable for children only) and the small bedroom has a child sized bed (75*160cm). The private drive is heated and there is access to a laundry/utility room in the basement.
H5 is a treasured home-away-from-home and a favourite family activity are evening swims at Sundhollin, the Reykjavik Pool, located only in a 3 minute walking distance and open until late in the evening. This is great all year-round and in any weather.
The house stands at the edge of Klambratun, a local park that includes children's play areas and houses Kjarvalsstadir, a beautiful art museum with a lovely bistro. Other key tourist attractions such as Perlan (ice cave, nature exhibitions, zip-line and restaurant), Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja Church, boat trips, downtown restaurants and shopping streets, are all within walking distance.
The surroundings of Reykjavik offer many fantastic opportunities for day trips. The natural park at Thingvellir and the sites of the Golden Circle are classic, and a trip to one of the amazing lagoons near the city such as Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon is a must. If you are into some hiking, there is also no need to go far, as hike up the city mountain, Esjan, is well worth the effort! Registration nr HG-00016445.

Anna was a great communicator and was very helpful throughout the entire process. Mattius was kind and resourceful. The home was beautiful and a great place to start and end each fun filled day.
Thank you, Anna!

Wonderful home with beautiful touches and comfy features that immerse one in Reykjavík life from the moment you walk in. Very cool.

Our family of 3 stayed in this home for a week.
Pros:
*Short walk to city center, which our 7 year old could do with (little to no) complaining.
*Quiet neighborhood and private parking.
*Comfortable bedding.
*Games available to play.
*Great cooktop that heated water extremely quickly.
*Fantastic communication.
*Friendly host and caretaker. Caretaker was great with our child.
*Laundry facility available.
Cons:
*Laundry is shared with the caretaker and it was not clear ahead of time which washing machine was his, so we accidentally used his machine. He was gracious about it, but we wish it would have been abundantly clear (labeled?) which was available for our use.
*There were 2 washing machines and one dryer. Not sure if the dryer is shared with the caretaker.
*Upstairs bathroom could have been cleaner.
*Dining room smelled old – it was clean but it’s an old building, so something to take into account if you are highly sensitive to smells. Was only an issue for one person in our party.
Sidenote, not pro nor con:
*It is clear that you are staying at someone’s house and not just a rental property. The host’s personal belongings were visible (albeit neatly put away) (e.g. cold weather clothing in the drop zone).
Overall, a lovely stay. We recommend it.

A nice, quiet, walkable neighborhood. Off street parking was great- we rented a car for longer trips away from Reykjavík. Plenty of space for my family. Comfortable beds.

Really comfortable home base during our family trip to Iceland. Located right near the cute shops and restaurants in Reykjavik, next to a big open park/ field kids to run around and play, parking and laundry were awesome for our adventure.

This home is in a great location with the perfect balance between in the city, quiet by the park, and a home base for daily treks. It is large, extremely comfortable, and truly felt like having a home.
Anna and Gummi took care to settle us and ensure all was good.

We have visited Iceland before, and I knew I would prefer a home where we could prepare a few meals, do some laundry and have a little space instead of being crammed into hotel rooms with our teenage children. Anna’s home was a quiet retreat where we could do all of the above. The house was spotless and her house manager was always available to help with anything we needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We had a wonderful and cozy stay at this property for a week in March. Everything you could need as a family in a beautifully appointed house. We have very happy memories sitting down for a family meal in the dining room and then relaxing by the fire afterward. As for location, you can walk to nearly everything. Don’t sleep on the local municipal thermal pool and Braud bakery for cinnamon buns and coffee. The owner and caretaker were lovely and responsive. Enjoy!

Wonderful property and host. City centre is an easy walk, and it is very close to a tour bus stop.

Absolutely perfect for my family! Such a lovely & spacious home. Cozy, with the working fireplace, and comfortable furnishings. The kitchen had everything that we needed. We had a large dining room table that could host a large family or friends, if needed. The living room is very comfy, and cozy. And, yes, nice and warm, too! The beds were extremely comfortable and we loved cuddling under the cozy comforters. We had plenty of desks to work from (with fast internet). We had access to the laundry room, which was handy, because I didn't have to pack too many clothes. The house was quite large, by European (and especially Icelandic) standards. I really appreciated that it felt more like a cozy home and not like a cold hotel. I felt like I could relax there. I was excited to go back to this lovely, inviting and warm place, after a full day of outdoor adventure! We especially appreciated that it was so close to the lovely downtown Reykjavik and a 5 minute or so walk to the Hallgrimskirkja Church and other attractions. We didn't have to drive at all, when we wanted to get morning coffee, go to a restaurant, go shopping, see the sites, or get an evening drink. Location, location! So worth it! I LOVED that I didn't have to drive and park the car. And, although we were close to the action, the home was located in an extremely quiet and family friendly neighborhood. Finally, the host communicated perfectly and was delightful. Everything was perfect. I absolutely would stay here again and I can't wait to go back. I miss it already! Thank you for making our first visit to Iceland lovely and hassle-free!
