About this house rental
Bluey House is an escape on the edge of the Southern Ocean, where the roar of the ocean fills the air. Our home away from home is a place of peace and play, located behind the dunes of East Warrnambool's beautiful beaches. It’s cosy in winter and a playground in summer.
Bluey is a place to disconnect from the outside world and enjoy valuable time with family and friends. Play, rest, listen to the ocean, dream, find inspiration, adventure and simply find joy in the quiet of nature.
Bluey has been enjoyed and loved dearly over the years and we hope to honour the love and respect given to this special place by offering you your own wonderful beachside memories.
Bluey is a great house for all seasons! In summer, enjoy the laid-back nature of the house. We have fans in every room, but there’s nothing better than leaving the windows wide open and let the soothing ocean breeze come through!
After hitting the beach, wash the sand away with a warm shower outside (maybe with a sneaky beer) and enjoy a BBQ in our spacious outdoor area.
In winter, enjoy a glass of red next to our beautiful living room gas log fire (with no mess!) while the rest of the house will be kept cosy and warm with ducted heating throughout. We promise you won’t be cold.
Bedroom 1: Queen bed
Bedroom 2: Queen bed
Bedroom 3: 2 x single beds
Bluey's kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, electric oven and stove, fridge, microwave and breakfast bar with adjoining dining area. We have many cheese boards and quality stemmed glasses for the essential cheese and wine platter.
The two separate lounge areas offer plenty of comfy seating with a smart TV in each area. We also love reading and hope our small library reflects this.
The bathroom has a shower and bath, with the toilet in a separate room beside the bathroom.
Outside you will find the wind proof outside area with seating for 6, BBQ and luscious backyard. Use the outdoor shower (with hot and cold water) to rinse off from the beach.
Pets availalbe on request.
You will have complete privacy and access to the entire Bluey House. The grounds are yours to enjoy, and the beach lies just over the dunes. We can supply everything you need for an outdoor fire pit upon request.
Sand & Salt
If you love the beach, the Southern Ocean is only a 4 minute wander from Bluey’s front door! Head across the dunes and coastal heathlands and you will arrive at Granny’s grave beach - a popular surf break and a great place for fossicking for seashells and other marine treasures. However, due to the ocean swell and strong currents, we don’t recommend swimming there. Main beach (in front of the Surf Life Saving Club) is patrolled during summer and offers a much safer option for a day in the water with plenty of opportunities the slide down a wave on your boogie-board. Snorkelling the reef in the Merri Marine Sanctuary next to Middle Island is one of our favourite things to do with huge schools of zebrafish, wrasse and sweep always happy to greet you, or maybe take a quick dive below the surface to observe crayfish and abalone in their natural habitat (the sanctuary area is strictly a no-take zone). Or if you’re wanting more of a thrill, follow the teenagers to the end
of Warrnambool’s breakwater and jump into the sheltered Bay from a great height. Just down the road from Bluey are the sheltered estuary waters of the Hopkins River which is brilliant spot for stand-up paddleboarding (our favourite), kayaking, skiing, and most other water sports. For those who like to wet a line, fishing options are plentiful with almost endless ocean (snapper, whiting), estuary (bream, estuary perch) and freshwater (trout, redfin) options to explore.
Wander
Follow one of the many tracks over the dunes and you will come across the wonderful promenade that follows the edge of Lady Bay from the Hopkins River mouth (Moyjil) to the east and the Warrnambool breakwater to the west. In the winter and spring Southern Right whales and their calves can be seen cruising and playing just outside the surf break next to the promenade. At sunrise and sunset, the view can be breathtaking.
Turn right and follow the path toward the breakwater and be rewarded with great coffee, food and wine, or turn left and walk to the historically-significant Moyjil (Point Ritchie) where you can gaze out over an ancient limestone reef overlooking the mighty Southern Ocean. For thousands of years Aboriginal people visited the area to gather food including eels from the Hopkins River and shellfish from the ocean. Remarkably, ancient shell deposits that were recently found at the Moyjil site have suggested Aboriginal people may have occupied this site as much as 80,000 years ago, which if proven, would make it the oldest human site in Australia and potentially rewrite the history of human migration to this country!
Explore
If you feel like exploring the area, Bluey is a perfect base to access local attractions including Port Fairy, Tower Hill, Thunder Point and many stunning southern coast beaches and hikes that this region has to offer. The local art gallery (WAG) punches well above its weight for a regional gallery and several locally-produced artworks adorn the walls of Bluey.
Warrnambool is renowned for its spring and winter whale watching and Logan’s beach has a dedicated whale watching platform.
Bluey is a place to play, rest, listen to the ocean, dream, find inspiration, adventure, and simply find joy in the quiet of nature.
All bedding is provided including luxury 100% cotton towels.
We use ‘Baccarat’ by Scent Australia to perfume our linen (just in case you were wondering).

This was a lovely house with everything we needed and more. The coast was just across the road with a beautiful coastland reserve. Perfect for dog walks and just being in nature. I highly recommend Bluey to all.

We have stayed in quite a few properties over the years booked through Stayz. We've been lucky not to have any duds, but when we got to Bluey, our minds were BLOWN. Honestly this property is just beautiful. It was so thoughtfully put together, every single thing you think you might need from paper towel, a slow cooker, tupperware, pegs, all kinds of completely random things - Bluey had it.. And talk about clean - you know when you check in to hotels/motels/holiday homes and they've been cleaned but are still kind of sticky? Not Bluey. So clean, no dust, no dead insects, no sticky bits. And everything was quality as well - the crockery, cutlery, bed linen, towels etc. A huge amount of thought has clearly gone in to putting this property together and it shows. We honestly felt like we were at home. After a horror couple of years for our family over covid, we spent 4 days just completely chilling and relaxing and Bluey was the absolutely perfect place for it. There was a huge rumpus room with games/toys and books for the kids/teens and another living area for mum and dad. HUGE backyard for the kids to run around in, a walk over the road to the beach and a 30 minute walk up the road to the Fletcher Jones Market. Honestly, Bluey now sets the standard for all other stays we have anywhere. We will if definitely be back - if you are not sure about taking the chance on this gorgeous property, you will not regret it. We are home now and completely refreshed and honestly, missing Bluey just a little bit.
