Melody House and Melody Cottage were built around the start of the 14th century as a much larger residence than stands here today. It housed Gt Ryburgh Magnar's Guild Hall under the priory of Walsingham.
Ryburgh Magnar was a very powerful garrison settlement set along the banks of the beautiful River Wensum. It also had 3 fortified manor houses built in close vicinity. Its famous Saxon church with its round tower only stands 200 yards away. From 1656 the Guild Hall under went a great number of works to improve its structure after a fire removed its whole south wing and the introduction of window tax required the loss of a great number of its windows, a grand new gable end was added.
It was then sub-divided into 9 smaller tenement cottages.
It also housed the village provision stores for nearly 400 years and a number of smaller retail outlets.
There are folk law stories of priest stairs and underground tunnels leading to the church and the odd thing that goes bump in the night.

A voucher was bought for my 80th Birthday. After looking at the selection of places and accommodation Melody House Bed & Breakfast looked good. Location was pretty central to the North Coast of Norfolk, so we booked for 4 nights. Our Landlady was a very famous person, who had played in a band, Sang, appeared in the TV program '4 In a Bed' Been invited to garden parties at Buckingham Palace etc. etc. The rooms in the house were spotlessly clean, the food for breakfast was very good.

The room was lovely and clean with vintage china cups. For breakfast you had a choice of around 30 items which were presented impeccably. Audrey was so welcoming and had great stories to tell. Well worth a stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. The accommodation was ideally situated with local fish and chips and good restaurant next door. Great Burgh is close to Fakrnham and north Norfolk coast.

Looking through the window and seeing the tables laid so beautifully ready for breakfast we were sure that we would be impressed by our accommodation and we were not disappointed. Our deluxe ensuite had all we required in terms of comfort with Botanics toiletries, homemade biscuits and fudge, fresh milk in the fridge and luxurious towels.
