This place is a true gem, right by the sea with direct access to the beach set in amazing grounds. We only didn’t 1 night here but wished we’d had more. The main hall was a great social area with pool tables and open fires. The onsite cafe is lovely with nice food. All the staff were friendly. Good parking
A little noisy with creaking floorboards but to be expected from a wooden building

Location is awesome
Shower Water not hot enough.

Great location. Friendly staff. Spartan rooms but clean. Loved the communal living room space and the fireplaces
No end table by the bed and no clock

it’s old and basic but the views are stunning
old needs renovation or cut the grasses in the surrounding
3.5
The staff was nice and helpful and the surroundings are beautiful.
Paint peeling off the walls, (small plate size hole) cobwebs, metal door in bathroom wouldn't stay shut.
3.5
The upstairs room was quiet and spacious.
I wish there were more breakfast choices, although I realize they don't cook at the cafe.
3.5
The room was a bit outdated. The location is beautiful but the bathroom kept getting plugged. Not very convenient.
The bathroom and quality of the room. We couldn't use the fire place. Sad.

Loud neighbors

The location and the natural beautiful of the grounds and architecture and stunning. The proximity to the beach was also a great plus. The history of the property is pretty impressive.
Don't be fooled by the photos on their website. They're old, deceptive, and not reflective of what the property actually looks like today.
Cleanliness & Maintenance: This property is poorly managed and maintained. The carpet was disgusting and had stains the size of a dinner plate. There were no blankets in the room. The water-filter connected to the ice machine was covered in algae. It was gross and you could tell that it hadn't been replaced in a long time. The balcony was filthy and the room is extremely dated. The sliding door security bar latch was bent, which meant that you couldn't use it.
Dining: This property also does not have any restaurants, which means you need to leave the property for your meals, unless you're attending a conference and the food was a part of your conference. There's a small coffee shop with limited hours and a limited selection of items. Given that there's aren't any restaurants or room services, you'd think that they would at least include a coffee machine and refrigerator in the rooms, but no such luck.
Summary: This used to be a beautiful and great property. The architecture is beautiful and the location by the sea is great, but the place is so poorly maintained it looks like it is turning into an abandoned ghost town fit for squatters. ARMARK took a beautiful historic property with prime real estate and turned it into a dump!

Absolutely dismal rooms in dire need of updates. Gross carpets. Heat didn't work. Outrageous price. This property puts up a great false front, as the lodge is beautiful, but don't let this fool you. The location is, of course, idyllic; but this hotel needs a full renovation to justify their rates.

Old place, smelly.
too far to the beach.

Its’ atmosphere, gorgeous paths and location.
The property located near Asilimar beach that has beautiful scenery. There is also a great park.
Room condition is a bit old. However, the room price is proper. Therefore, considering its’ outside and atmosphere, I was satisfied.

Location, beach, cafes, grounds are beautiful.
The facility is in disrepair. I felt that the amount I was charged did not equal the run-down conditions. In addition I believe I was overcharged as charges to booking.com were on my bill.

The best thing about this place is the location. It's stunning. You can hear the waves as you sleep.
The property is old and they should provide guests with coffee.

Location and tradicional lodges
Rooms very old and outdated, needs a renovation.
3.5
The grounds themselves are beautiful. That’s the only redeeming trait.
The room was bad. Not a thing has been changed since 1950 except the LED bulb. The bathroom was very old and very grimy. The bed was uncomfortable, creaky, and only had two sad pillows. There were many ants in the room. The ceilings weee just short of 7’ tall and the walls paper thin. If you go in with the expectation that this is one step up from camping, you’ll be fine.

My room did not include the meal plan. There was no complimentary coffee. $3.00 for a 16oz cup of regular coffee.
The heater did not work in my room. It was either 90 degrees or had to be turned off. There were two opening (old crank open windows. One had no screen at all and the other was not secured. This was a first floor room.

Beautiful site, historic place on the beach.
Some maintenance needed in some buildings.

First of all the room wasn't ready at 4 pm for checking in and from staff reaction I can imagine this wasn't their first time. They told me the room might be ready in couple hours, disappointing. Despite beutiful location and being super close to Asilomar beach the room was even worst than worst motels. Old and nasty carpets, old and obsolete AC and oudated restroom and bath besides not having microwave and fridge made the room one of the worst rooms we ever stayed in. It seems the State own this place, well I should have said this first so you could save time and not read the rest of my review!
Almost anything except the location.
3.5
the location and historic majestic buildings, the quiet expanse of the property, walkable access to the beach
bathroom sink leaking, bathroom sorely in need of upgrade, room lighting very dark, pool tables and main fireplace closed (this is a highlight in the central lounge room), the breakfast options are too limited and could be so much better, you used to serve wine in the great hall in the pms too!
3.5
Nice comfortable room with fireplace. Clean and large enough for 2 adults and 2 kids.
While they clearly state no microwave, TV, or coffee maker in room; it would be nice if they made available in a common area. We had thought this was the case based on property descriptions but found out not. Also dining hours are very restricted.
3.5
great location within a natural park, rooms clean, very close to the beach
room a bit rustic
3.5
All about location! The price and location make up for no elevators and crazy way parking vs buildings are laid out.
Parking for Willow building, ants in restroom, outer side of windows were not clean and need of additional paths directly to beach. You must walk back to main building first. Lots of extra walking!
3.5
location - history - camp ground/ conference style
rooms were super simple, could use a update
