The employees were the best thing at this lodge. They were so genuinely friendly and kind, esp. the servers and employees in the restaurant. The food was excellent and the view from the restaurant was fabulous.
We don't really think this lodge is a "wilderness" lodge. We know that the understory of a rainforest is extremely important for the overall health of the area. You have gardeners raking the leaf little down to the soil. There is no place for insects and other small animals to hide. Therefore, there is relatively little animal life near the rooms and on the immediate grounds. The hummingbird feeders need to be washed and refilled DAILY to prevent disease and contamination. Landscape with lots more nectar plants for the pollinators.
There were a few varieties of birds but they were mostly feeding in the trees, not on the ground. We're photographers. We scoured the area for insects and found very few - incredible for a "wilderness" lodge. We realize that some people aren't just looking for animals and that they are actually afraid of many creatures. Understandable, but don't advertise as a wilderness lodge when you keep the grounds pristine. We have been to Costa Rica seven times, have stayed in the town of Monteverde seven times, and have seen much of the entire country. We've stayed in many different lodges that met our expectations after reading their information on line. Except for your exceptional employees, especially the restaurant workers, we were very disappointed in Cloud Forest Lodge by Boena.

Great location out of the bustle of town. Loved the restaurant, which is perched at the canopy level, with a deck on top for views and birdwatching. Open all day to enjoy the scene. Very friendly staff in restaurant as well, we decided to eat all our meals there rather than go into town

The restaurant, Endemico, was exceptional!

Beautiful, thoughtfully planned and decorated, new construction, high quality materials, several walking trails, quiet, opportunities to see wildlife such as toucans, monkeys, coatimundi.
Everything was excellent.

Beautiful location and the restaurant was amazing! Staff at the restaurant was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms was very clean and beds were very comfortable.
Poor shower design made it necessary to build a little towel wall to avoid flooding the bathroom. Price is very high compared to other equally nice places we stayed in Costa Rica.

The setting is amazing, the picture on Booking.com shows the bar terrace- great place for a beer. Watching the hummingbirds while eating breakfast was special too. Staff were friendly and attentive, but not too formal.
I would have liked to know a bit more about the private reserve it was on. 30 mins walk into town, or a taxi - but we knew that when we booked.

Quiet.
Difficult to find and no swimming pool

The location is amazing, beautiful views, amazing grounds. the food was amazing and so were the staff. we felt really well looked after. The room was lovely and we really enjoyed watching the wildlife go by.
It’s only a small thing but it would have been great to have coffee facilities in the room.

Delicious breakfast. Great location for bird watching.
Walls did not provide enough sound isolation from neighboring rooms. We had neighbors who were early risers and you could hear them as they were getting ready for the day.

The location is beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife on the property. The food was amazing and a full breakfast was included with our stay. It is very serene with just the sounds of the birds and the wind at night and early morning. It is close to a very good zip line excursion that we took advantage of. It was less than 2 mile walk to town but the return walk was over a mile up hill. Taxi is recommended. The staff was incredibly attentive to our needs.
It would be a lovely location for a hot tub! A refrigerator in the room would be nice for left overs and drinks. Being high in the cloud forest the evenings and mornings are chilly. I recommend people pack accordingly.

We had a wonderful stay here! Our room was perfectly clean & comfortable, the surrounding nature is extraordinary beautiful (you can see birds, monkeys, coutis, squirrels while you are having breakfast or just relaxing), breakfast was good, staff is really nice. There are nice program opportunities near. ¡Pura vida!
That’s not a negative thing, just to get prepared: it is not so easy to get to the property, 4x4 car is recommended. There is no door on the shower, so the bathroom gets easily wet while showering.

The staffs are friendly and breakfast is delicious. The scenic rest area is perfect for relaxing between tours. Zipline tours are a 2-minute walk away. Conveniently close to Cloud Forest and Night Walk, but the roads are not paved, so it is recommended to take a tour with transportation. Trails around the hotel are about an hour long and authentic.

Weird atmosphere. The room had no furniture. And our balcony looked out in the roof of the next bungalow.

The staff was very friendly. Great breakfast with beautiful views from the restaurant.
We chose this hotel based on previous reviews, but it turned out that it was a completely new construction and ownership - we were the second guests of our room. The room smelled fresh paint; there was a power outage affecting the whole property; we took a cold shower; the room was big but rather empty and cold; there was ongoing work all around although the workers were respectful and not noisy.

beautiful secluded location, big new rooms with great showers, highly recommend the breakfast, very nice staff
at the time we arrived the renovation wasn’t fully completed, there was still some noise, construction, and no animals because of it. not great value for money considering we didn’t expect this

Honestly, the whole experience was amazing. The entire staff were friendly and helpful; the location was beautiful as was the room; the food was really good! The cloud forest tour guide they got for us, Jairo, was so knowledgeable and friendly. He also managed to fulfill a deep desire to finally! see a quetzal:).
not sure--the bed was a bit too firm for my partner.

Good location. Beautiful views from restaurant with delicious food. Very friendly staff.
Family room was very small for 4 (with 2 teenagers) and 4th bed crammed into dark alcove next to bathroom.

We loved the location in the forest, the big room, the wooden style, the restaurant view, the food, the staff, everything!

Spacey cabins, in a quiet & natural environment. Very friendly staff! Try the flan-dessert in the restaurant, it’s delicious!

The setting is beautiful, watching the sunset as the hummingbirds fly around is something we will never forget. We were glad to be staying at a hotel that isn't detrimental to these surroundings as well as being incredibly comfortable. In a country of friendly people, Gabriel was the most friendly person we met - every interaction with him was a delight.
The food is fine, but not exceptional. We were slightly disappointed that we had the same assigned table for every meal as our table was nearest the reception, meaning that we sat there even when the restaurant was empty. Unless you are doing activities during the day, there aren't many picturesque areas to sit and relax, besides the bar. Our room was also closest to the car park and there are people on zip lines going overhead, so our room's porch area wasn't the most tranquil.

Location, food, staff, activities.
Nothing - loved the location and the accommodation.

Very large comfy bed. View from restaurant was amazing. There is the original canopy tour next door for zip lining which was a great experience.
The breakfast wasn't great. We also ate at the restaurant one night but the food wasn't good and was expensive, so I would recommend not eating there. The location is a bit far out of town so you need a car. When it rains and is windy it is very noisy in the cabin and could make it difficult to get to sleep if you are not a deep sleeper. Overall accommodation is quite basic.

The restaurant staff was really friendly and let you know immediately when they see any monkeys or birds outside!

lovely and clean, staff were very helpful
and the breakfast was very nice. Lots of beautiful walks around and an easy cab ride into the town

The location is good but the attempt to combine accommodation for nature lovers with thrill seeking Adrenalin junkies is a mistake. Trying to find and film wildlife while people whoop whoop their way across the tree canopy does not work. Also, the rooms are fine, if chilly at night, but the drains need to be checked to deal with the smells, possibly related to the broken pipes behind the lodges with grey water draining into the open. Reception was very efficient and the night walk was well worth completing.
The restaurant was well run with good staff but, when compared to the town restaurant options, it fared badly. Prices were a bit too high for what was on offer. Also, only one of the many bird tables around the restaurant ever had food placed there to attract birds.
