AROUND VILLA MARENA:
Bellagio, also known as 'La Perla del Lario', is famous for its particular location in the center of Lake Como! The historic center, known as Borgo, occupies the most extreme part of the promontory and is an endless succession of shops, shops and lively clubs. The other hamlets rise on the hill and on the two shores of the lake. We are in the hamlet of San Giovanni, a small fishing village on the Como branch, which has kept its ancient charm! The marina, the beaches, the always well-kept park, and the characteristic streets are always quiet and safe. We are 2km from the historic center, 250m from little beaches and 450m from the town's main beach (the only one equipped with a bar, restaurant and services). Walking in a pedestrian street from the villa you can reach the lake in 5 minutes. Very close there is also a cafeteria, ideal for breakfast or an aperitif; the park with a play area for children and a fenced area for dogs; the small port with the boat stop, that is the best way to visit all the towns of Lake Como, boat rental without a license, bus stop (Guggiate) and the tourist train stop. There are excellent restaurants within walking distance and grocery stores are within 1 km. You can reach the historic center comfortably by car or on foot in 15-20 minutes, walking through the various hamlets or crossing the gardens of Villa Melzi (they are private so you can choose day ticket or multi-day pass; they are open from 9 to 18.30 from Easter until November 1st). One of the peculiarities of Bellagio is the fact of having both the coast and the mountains, in 15 minutes by car you can reach Monte San Primo, where you can take wonderful walks in the cool, tireless walkers can reach the summit directly on foot along the paths. Visiting our country means walking up and down the streets, tiredness will be rewarded by unforgettable views and views. Do not miss the Gardens of Villa Melzi, the beautiful park of Villa Serbelloni, and the promenade along the lake until you reach Punta Spartivento, which divides the lake into three branches.
Your own car is recommended, it is the easiest way to reach Bellagio. You will have the freedom to also explore the upper part to enjoy incredible views and to take trips to nearby cities. Public transport is not very efficient, especially in winter.
In Bellagio and in the neighboring villages you can practice various sports: rent canoes, kayaks, paddles and sup. Practicing water sports, trekking, excursions and walks of all levels. On Monte San Primo the bike park alternates seasonally with the ski slopes. In 15 minutes by car you also can reach the Jungle Raider Park, with paths in the trees for adults and children. It is possible to rent boats, Vespa scooters, bicycles (electric and non-electric) and cars.
From Bellagio you can make trips to all the coastal towns using the boat, we recommend visiting Varenna, Tremezzo and its Villa Carlotta and Lenno with the famous Villa Balbianello. By car you can reach Magreglio and Ghisallo (famous for the cycling museum), the lakes of Pusiano, Alserio and Segreno (ideal for walking or having a picnic). The cities of Lecco and Como are 25 and 30km away. If you are a wanderer in just over an hour you can reach Milan, Bergamo, Switzerland, Sondrio, Valtellina and Valsassina. In less than two hours, on the other hand, you can arrive in Bormio for the thermal baths, in Livigno for duty-free shopping, in St. Moritz or also in Madesimo to ski or rent a snowmobile (November-April). A beautiful mountain trip is that of the Bernina Express, the famous red train with incredible views.

This house was the perfect getaway for our family of 6. The house had plenty of room for us all and had all the amenities we needed. We especially loved the screened in porch and hanging out on the terrace outside that has a beautiful view of the lake. The house has AC which we really appreciated during that hot July week. This spot is an easy 5 minute walk to San Giovanni where there is a great cafe, delicious restaurant, and great swimming/boating spot. Then it’s just a 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive into downtown Bellagio. The host was incredibly friendly and kind.

Our host was very king and helpful with any questions - suggestions about Bellagio and Lake Como.
Looks like we discovered our new holiday home! 😃

The property was amazing! The amenities were what were listed… everything was thought of! The host met us when we arrived, gave us a quick tour and the “ low down”. Everything was so well done we never had to contact her again. The home was perfect in terms of our large family being able to spread out. The views from the large deck remain imprinted in my mind as a dream come true. The lake is a short walk away and Bellagio is not too far. I highly recommend this property fora wonderful vacation!

Beautiful well kept property inside and outside! Can walk to the beach from the villa & swim in Lake Como. Bring
swim shoes, the lake & beach are very rocky. Wonderful area (San Giovani) away from all the tourists in Bellagio,
but close to ferries. Grocery store very close with everything you need...including delicious breads, cheeses and home made raviolis. Spectacular view of Lake Como & mountains. Air conditioning was a must. In June '23 it was 93 degrees some days. Hosts were great. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Home is wonderful & spacious with beautiful views of the lake.
It's a little difficult to find the drive way. It's better to speak with the family member on the property rather than emailing the owner.

We all had a great time and would definitely return if we get the chance. Many thanks!

The home is beautiful sitting just above lake como. There is an outdoor terrace off the kitchen with spectacular views of the lake. I stayed here with my cousin and our parents who are in their 70s and 80s. If you don not have a car, I would not recommend for older people or anyone who is not relatively fit. The home is a short walk to a ferry and a couple restaurants and there is a path to avoid walking on the very narrow curving highway, unfortunately the “path” is more like a drainage channel lined with large rocks so it is challenging to navigate and required good balance, which my parents and aunt ir uncle do not have. It was nearly impossible to get a car ride (Uber or taxi) at least in the summer of 2022. We spent hours on the phone trying to get cars and then eventually had to rent a car. If you and your guests have good balance I highly recommend! It is also only about a 20-25 minute walk to town and the hosts were very responsive.

Francesca's place was exactly as described on the VRBO site. We found it very clean and well appointed. The extras of milk in the refrigerator, a bottle of water, coffee/tea, and other food items was wonderful and very much appreciated! The location is easy to find and close to Bellagio, although not walking distance. We did find the little town down the hill easy to walk to, however, and we visited it almost every morning for coffee and a pastry. This coffee bar also makes excellent cocktails in the evenings! Our beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of space for us to spread out in the house. The kitchen was complete and easy to cook in. Overall an excellent choice for our stay in Bellagio! We would highly recommend it!

This review is long overdue…we stayed in July 2022. Beautiful spot, lovely villa, on relaxing grounds that make you want to spend every minute outside. Lots of homemade dinners cooked with ingredients from the local market (about a mile away) and enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the lake. The only thing we missed was being able to watch Wimbledon on the TV in the family room. The owners were helpful, friendly, and warm. We loved our time here!

Thoroughly enjoyed this charming home with amazing views of Lake Como. Close to Bellagio Centro and we felt immersed in the Italian community and culture. Home definitely had old world charm. Our favorite place to gather was on the deck with a 180° view of Lake Como and on a different patio with a fire pit Francesca’s mom and dad were so kind and helpful and live close by on a separate property on the grounds. Highly recommend!!

Bellagio

A gem in the heart of Lake Como district
We had an absolutely wonderful vacation at Francesca’s lovely home. Ricardo was nearby and stopped in frequently to see if we needed anything, and to chat about the area. The home is clean and spacious, and amenities plentiful. Let ved our stay!

Perfect Bellagio Getaway
Villa Marena: Charming, clean home on spacious property. Views of Lake Como and surrounding mountains from the main floor and outdoor dining deck are spectacular. The outdoor fireplace (and BBQ grill) are a big plus, as is the huge lawn area for lounging or playing around. The walk to Bellagio is about 15 minutes and is easy. Morning cappuccinos, boat rentals, and some dining options are located in San Giovanni, a little lakeside village that is steps away (3—5 minutes) and is adorable. The spectacular Menzi Villa and Gardens is only a 10 minute walk as well. Francesca and her folks manage the place with charm and hospitality and were wonderful to deal with. Great value for the price too. Highly recommended.
