About this house rental
Muklaghbeg cottage has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and sleeps 8 people.
The cottage is part of a group of 9 cottages situated off a very quiet back road which leads along an estuary into Castlegregory village. It has been lovingly and sympathetically modernised several years ago, and is a warm and comfortable haven in which to unwind, relax and escape from the noise and stress of modern city living. With quality furnishings throughout and an exceptionally well supplied kitchen, there are fabulous views of the mountains behind. Mucklaghbeg is situated in its own grounds - a large lawn outside the sunroom windows is perfect for children, but is adjacent to the other cottages on their own private avenue.
The cottage is located approximately 2K from Castlegregory and 26K from Tralee in County Kerry. The beach is only a 5 minute walk away if you cross the stepping stones at low tide over the Owencashla river, or take a winding lane which leads across a bridge to get to Castlegregory strand. Quiet and peaceful, this area of County Kerry abounds in great walking and wildlife spotting opportunities - Mount Brandon, Ireland's second highest mountain, dominates the views. Golf, fishing, and scuba diving are also found close by. The Maharees on the far side of Castlegregory is home to some of Europes best windsurfing and kitesurfing on Brandon Bay - Irelands longest golden sand beach - and the safe haven of Sandy Bay which has an excellent kids club during the summer months offering Banana boating, Kayaking, a bouncy castle and sea trampolines - fantastic enjoyment for children! Take a drive over Irelands highest mountain road, the Connor Pass, and discover the harbour town of Dingle, or take a boat trip to the Blasket islands for some seal spotting, or even the occasional whale….this is a location you will want to return to again and again.
The Spar supermarket in Castlegregory has an extensive selection of food and drink, so shopping can be done on your doorstep. In the evenings the local pubs have fabulous music and craic, and there are a number of excellent restaurants where a friendly welcome is always assured.

Planned vacation with family and had narrowed down properties for consideration based on which had a hot tub in the amenities. I chose this property based on an inaccurate listing of amenities and was woefully surprised to find no hot tub at check in. I addressed with owner but was told to take it up with VRBO. The error should be corrected for future renters and it did impact our ability to enjoy the days as planned. I shouldn't be burdened with corrections, etc as I was purchasing a service based on a listing that should be correct when i see it. Nice property, but the experience was not as listed. Also, be prepared to purchase firewood and run outside if you need to store anything in a freezer as there is not one in the kitchen.

Lucy was very keen to ensure we had 10 enjoyable days. We appreciated the heating in the house, though we felt it could have been turned down somewhat - especially with the weather being rather mild.
The house met all our expectations, providing comfortable beds, nice showers, a fully equipped kitchen, and last but not least, all sorts of games and books to pass the time indoors.
With the house being situated in an area surrounded by various beaches, we could walk along different coastlines, visit tourist attractions or go to restaurants in reasonable driving distance.
All in all we had a fabulous time, even when the sun wasn’t shining.

The Hostess, Marie, is a “Super Star”. She showed us with a level of hospitality that we have seldom experienced. She made our stay quite comfortable.

The house was very nice and was just as we expected. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Bathrooms nice the Wet room shower was fantastic. It was close enough to be able to venture around ring of Kerry one day and to the cliffs of Moher the other. Both a lot of driving but very do able. Would definitely stay again. The dinning room / sunroom was a major plus we enjoyed breakfast while watching the bunnies in the grass.
Couple of small notes would not keep me from staying again at all but just for expectations.
The hot water heater is a little strange it makes a loud noise sometime which subsided once you run the cold water in the kitchen. The Beatles jigsaw puzzle was missing several pieces FYI. The bedrooms are very small. they are totally great for sleeping but a little hard when traveling with stuff. The back bedroom with the bathroom has no closet and almost no space for a suitcase or bag. We used the 4th bedroom as a walk-in since we only had 4 adults and 2 kids.
All in all our trip to Ireland was excellent and we will fondly remember Castlegregory and our stay there.

We found the cottage to have everything we needed for the family. The kids loved the walk to the water every evening. The garden was a bonus for them to play. It was very quiet which we loved and our little one slept longer than anyone because of the peace and quiet.

We loved to stay here. The house is perfectly eqipped with all stuff you need for a lovely holiday. The location is very good for trips to all places and roads on the Dingle Peninsula as well as to Killarney and the Ring of Kerry. We appreciated the quick and nice conversation with Lucy and her caretaker. Thank you so much!

Absolutely smashing house
Spotless, very well equipped. Shop and beach short distance away.
Location probably not best for family with small children as no summer camps for small children nearby .
Otherwise lovely spot to stay.

Good communication with Lucy. Nice location to base self for all things in area - beaches, mountains, village etc. Would stay again.

Exceeded our expectations. The quiet Ireland we prefer when we visit, but yet not far from other towns we enjoy. Perfect location for walks on beach, or into town.

We had a great week at Lucy’s property and wouldn’t hesitate to book again!!

Had a bit of trouble at check in (received a message with old property managers contact info) but I contacted the owner and she was able to rectify within a short time. Double bed mattress really needs to be replaced but that was our only complaint.

Comfortable, beautiful cottage within walking distance of the beach. Quiet sleeping, close to all things on the Peninsula. Very kind and helpful hostess. Highly recommend.

Such a nice clean property that was hindered with some large inconveniences. The largest is the inability to have hot water thru out the day. It is explained it is on a timer. But the times it is available are not made clear. If you wake up too late forget a warm shower. After requesting hot water and taking two cold showers I was finally told how to turn it on and keep it on. Also, the same story with the heat. It is only on in the morning and evenings I think for two hours. I had older in-laws that had issues with the place being cold. Also, with at least one bed, whatever was in the duvet cover seemed to be lined with a horribly loud and suffocating plastic. Sleeping because of this was either super hot when covered, or cold when not. Not to mention all the noise.
I do think the owner cares about the quality of the stay. I also think with a few small tweaks it really has so much potential to be a great place. The sun room is gorgeous.

Nous avons passé de fabuleuses vacances dans ce cottage près de l’océan.

Pure delight. It was the perfect oasis to work in, being surrounded by nature and having such incredible landscape right at our doorstep.

Great location. Well equipped kitchen. Spacious house so plenty of space with lovely relaxing conservatory. Inconvenient to have to bring our own towels and bath mats for use in the house. But overall stay was lovely

The location is perfect being an easy walk from the beach and the town. The wider surroundings boast wonderful scenery and the town is friendly with a variety of pubs and restaurants. The house is a fine holiday house, with a good well-equipped kitchen. If the house is fully occupied it's quite small but cosy at night with the fire lit.
