About this house rental
Stable West forms part of a converted Edwardian stable block and is situated in a rural yet convenient location, on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty only 2 miles from the edge of Canterbury. It has a large double bedroom (super kingsize bed) with en-suite bathroom on the ground floor, and a further double and single bedroom with shared bathroom on the first floor - all have very comfy mattresses. There is a fully equipped kitchen/dining room with seating for eight, a large attractive sitting room with wood burning stove and Sky Sports, and a light and oak beamed conservatory with additional dining table which leads to an enclosed private garden with a terrace (table and chairs and BBQ). There is a downstairs cloakroom / utility room. The cottage has its own parking forecourt and is surrounded by the owners' large garden and wild flower meadow where you are free to wander. Use of tennis court and swimming pool and EV charging by arrangement with the owners.
High chair, travel cot and stair gate provided by arrangement.
Please note that we have (friendly) dogs living next door who may come and visit! As well as Canterbury there are many other places of interest within easy reach, such as Howletts Zoo Park (10 minutes by car), Dover Castle (25 minutes) and Sissinghurst Gardens (40 mins). There is also a wide variety of beaches and seaside resorts between 20 and 40 minutes away. Canterbury is less than an hour from London by train, and we are 20 minutes from the Channel Tunnel if you fancy a day trip to France. There are many lovely walks straight from the house, and the Granville pub is a10 minute walk away, serving delicious food and also great for a pint of the local beer.

Beautiful property in a lovely setting. Property had everything you could want during your stay. Hosts were very helpful and welcoming leaving chocolate and wine which was most welcome. Although the property is in a countryside setting it is well connected tomajor road network and amenities.

This is a very special holiday cottage and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting an idyllic rural retreat, with access to a pool, tennis court and beautiful country walks. It's also very near to the historic city of Canterbury with all its attractions.

We adore this property and this is our second visit. It was perfect for three adults and a two year old.
Spacious, comfortable and private but hosts Lucy and Charlie, who are very friendly and helpful, are nearby if needed.
Close to Canterbury and numerous other places to visit but in a quiet setting with wonderful views. We love everything and hope to return again.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t warm enough for a dip in the lovely pool - maybe next time.

Stable End is a lovely cottage, part of a larger complex in Heddington, near Canterbury, in Kent. It has "Old World" charm with all the added modern conveniences. It's located in a quiet and beautiful part of the country, situated in "The Garden of England."
The wonderful city of Canterbury is just minutes away, with the glorious cathedral awaiting your visit. Grocery stores of all sizes are close by, together with a large variety of small restaurants and pubs.
The rooms at Stable End are quite spacious and three bedrooms can easily accommodate up to six guests.
Hosts Charlie and Lucy made sure someone would be close by, on site, to help with any questions and concerns.
Overall, a wonderful experience, enhanced by beautiful weather. Check it out for yourselves!

What a beautiful place to stay! A spacious cottage, nicely decorated and with a big colorful garden. It felt like a little paradise on earth. Close to Canterbury. We enjoyed the daily Evensongs in the Cathedral and the beautiful walks around the little villages such as Chilham.
It is easy to travel from the Nethetlands by car and boat (Ferry Duinkerken-Dover).

Would definitely recommend staying at Stable West, I took my plan for her birthday along with my nearly two year old daughter. The property was lovely, the owners were really friendly and helpful. It was clean, airy, spacious and had everything we needed for a restful break. We will be returning at some point if Charlie and Lucy will have us!

Short stay
We stayed at Stable West for the weekend to attend a family wedding.
Communication with the hosts was clear & helpful, answering any queries we had.
The house location & setting was perfect, the listing photos reflect this property accurately.
There were 5 adults in our party & the house accommodated us all well, a bit of organising for the use of the shower was required but this didn’t impact on our stay.
Sky sports on the TV was a bonus on such a busy sporting weekend.
The local farm shop & pub also a bonus.
Overall a place we are happy to recommend.

A peaceful, comfortable bolthole
Communication with Charlie and Lucy was easy and friendly from the get go. The accommodation is so lovely - larger than we had expected and comfortable. It was the perfect spot for my husband and I, plus our dog to wind down and enjoy the local area. Our bed (ground floor) was huge and we slept well. It's so pleasant to have many quiet spots throughout the cottage to sit and read, or look out across the pretty gardens and fields.
The Granville pub is 10 minute walk away, farm shop about 20 mins walk, and Canterbury a 10 min drive. We found plenty of quiet, pretty areas to walk the dog too - all from the house. The Pig (15 mins drive) is also worth a visit.
We would love to revisit, with family next time - as there are 2 extra bedrooms upstairs that we didn't need to use. A shame we didn't use the pool either - I blame the weather....
All in all, one of the nicest rental places I've stayed at, close to many amenities and many beautiful parts of Kent.

Perfect break
Had a lovely five nights staying at Stable West. Definitely the most amazing cottage I have stayed in. The setting is beautiful, perfect for dog walks and the cottage has everything you can possibly need and was spotlessly clean. Brilliant location convenient for cycling to local pubs and restaurants. Charlie and Lucy were perfect hosts, with wine and chocolate for the adults and biscuits for the dogs. Definitely hope to visit again.

The best holiday home we have stayed in!
A warm and friendly welcome is waiting for you when you stay at Stable West. Surrounded by beautiful countryside but within easy reach of Canterbury and the many attractions in East Kent. The beautiful gardens and views over the fields as well as the comfortable accommodation made it a very relaxing place to get back to after a day out.

Charming cottage in tranquil setting while convenient to town - big windows and high ceilings
We had a very pleasant and relaxing week at Stable West - it felt like staying in someone's home, not in a sterile corporate rental or hotel room. There are lots of lovely decorative touches through out the house, with interesting china, wall hangings and pictures in most rooms and the halls. The kitchen was well equipped and functional, though we did not cook much. The living room, with its cathedral ceiling and several couches was a perfect hangout spot. (We were there in winter, so the sun room was underutilized.) It was super quiet - no airplanes or road noises to be heard. The occupant of the upstairs bedroom told us he could hear our snoring at night in the first floor bedroom . . . Oh well - we slept soundly anyway! The cows outside provided good entertainment as we watched their head-butting antics. Everything was very clean and the layout of the house makes it feel quite spacious - good distance between bedrooms and living areas. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-supplied, from dish soap and paper towels to bath soap and toilet paper. The house information book was full of very helpful information, such as where to find grocery stores and how to operate things. The Granville pub, which is located very nearby, is a bonus indeed for those not wanting to cook in. One note of caution - the upstairs bathroom has a fairly low ceiling over the tub - I could just barely stand up to use the hand-held shower attachment; a person over 5'8" would not be able to stand. Regarding access - we were able to navigate the driveway and entrance into our parking spot in our mid-size SUV, but a larger car, such as Range Rover, might have difficulty making the turn into the parking area. All in all you can experience the best of two worlds - peaceful country living while just about a 10 minute drive from town and the grocery store. Lots of golf courses within an hour's drive and of course sightseeing as well.

Great Place!
We highly recommend staying at Charlie and Lucy‘s place. Charlie was very helpful and welcoming. We appreciate all his help. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet Lucy.
The accommodation is large, very comfortable and offers everything one could need regardless of the length of the stay. If we ever travel back to the area, this place would be our first choice.

Wonderfully Relaxing Holiday
Having enjoyed a super holiday at Stable West last year we decided to book it again this summer & have just returned home from what was another fantastic week.
As always Charlie was a very accommodating host. On our day of arrival he kindly overseen the delivery of our pre-ordered grocery shop (which arrived before we did) & had perishables already packed away in the fridge.
The accommodation is spotlessly clean & well maintained. Meals can be enjoyed in kitchen, conservatory, or either of the two pretty patio areas. There are books, DVDs & games not to mention the beautiful pool where we enjoyed relaxing. The surrounding area is beautiful & there are two pubs which serve good food within easy walking distance. We also enjoyed visiting the Cathedral in Canterbury. There is lots to do around & about but we were so happy to have the opportunity to relax in such beautiful accommodation that we didn’t head too far!
For dog lovers like us we enjoyed the company of Charlie’s two labradors who were very friendly.
All in all this is a first rate venue & we hope to be back again.

Exceeded our expectations...again!
We returned to Stable West for a week over New Year having spent a wonderful time there last year.
Once again we had a fabulous time. The property is beautiful and Charlie & Lucy's attention to detail beyond expectations. A place to relax and enjoy the tranquility whilst at the same time being convenient for Canterbury and other nearby towns & villages.
I hope we can come back again soon.

Everything we wanted & more
We just enjoyed the most wonderful week in this property. The accommodation was spacious, beautifully decorated & spotlessly clean. The owners were great hosts making themselves available to us if we needed any advice. As we had such fantastic weather, the pool was a real bonus for our family. The grounds & gardens were beautifully maintained & we enjoyed our strolls around the grounds with the company of the owners lovely Labrador. We walked to 2 local pubs where we enjoyed great food. I would highly recommend this accommodation & sincerely hope Our family can return again.

Charming, spacious and comfortable cottage in the heart of Kentish countriside.
We have a lot of experience over the past 20+ years of staying at self-catering countryside properties in England, Wales and Scotland.
In our view, this property has it all: style, space, location, setting, gardens, furniture and equipment. As a family of four with two pre-teen children (girl and boy) we found everything we needed and more. The open air swimming pool, for instance, is really well appointed and maintained, set as it is inside what seems to have been a walled garden some years ago. Not that there is a shortage of carefully planted and beautifully kept trees, flowers, bushes and shrubs all around the place. All features, modern and old, fitting very harmonically with the rest of the converted stables courtyard and surrounding fields and woodland. Everything works, from a very old clock and weather vane on the clock tower to the modern kitchen equipment. The owners are living next door and are very helpful and welcoming, but there's always a feeling of full privacy for all because of the way the property and gardens are appointed. There are friendly dogs roaming the vast grounds, sheep and horses are kept on surrounding fenced off farmland. Plus there is plenty of rural wildlife to observe and listen to while breathing fresh air walking along the hedges and fields.
The rates that the owners charge are well justified in our view when you see what you get for the money, how the property is equipped and kept. And on top of this the wider surrounding area has plenty to offer in terms of places to see and things to do.
We will be coming back again most definitely and before too long!

The perfect country getaway, just 10 minutes from Canterbury
We spent a wonderful 9 days here over New Year. I have to say the photos don't do the place justice - the house is wonderful and is in truly beautiful surroundings. It doesn't feel like a holiday let and there are lots of little touches which make it a home from home. Although Charlie and Lucy live next door and were available if we needed anything, we had complete privacy and could pretend we were the lucky owners!
Our dog was made very welcome and was particularly happy to have other canine playmates!
Thank you Charlie & Lucy - we hope to be back soon.

A great family holiday.
First rate property; well appointed with well fitted kitchen; comfy lounge; super conservatory; large bed rooms with great beds; safe and enjoyable pool; tennis court and plenty of open space for 10 y old boy and 8 y girl, who could enjoy safe freedom; discreet, caring owners, who made us feel welcome to share their property. Good base for exploring Kent. Very happy to recommend.

An ABSOLUTE must !
We have just returned from an absolutely fabulous stay at Stable West. This beautiful cottage has so much to offer and suited all of us PERFECTLY. Our ages ranged from 11-74 yrs and there was something for everyone. The children loved the tennis court and basket ball hoop (unfortunately too cold to use the pool) and we all enjoyed relaxing, eating out and just taking in the most beautiful scenery.
We will definitely be back and highly recommend! Thank you for having us.

Rural Kentish Idyll
We had a really lovely stay here at Stable West. There are many things to see and do in the surrounding area, but you could spend a whole holiday just relaxing in the house and gardens. The house itself was really beautiful inside and out, and spotlessly maintained. The gardens were very pretty too, extensive and well laid out. In fact, the whole property is a large chunk of rural eye candy - something pleasant catches the eye in whichever direction you look!
We really appreciated being able to bring our dog. There is a very secure private garden attached to the house, in which we were able to let him loose in (and he has a reputation for escaping from other places). The grounds are very large, and offer lots of nice walks including woodland, fruit field and meadow, always with stunning countryside views.
We loved the swimming pool too.
There is a good pub ten minutes walk away, or other nice pubs/restaurants a short drive away. Our tip is to stock up on good Kentish provisions at the nearby farm shop (or others nearby) and get cooking back at the house or on the BBQ.
We were also surpised how easy and quick it was to get to Canterbury and Dover. A very convenient location.
We are already missing being there, and hope to return one day!

Deeply satisfying
We were entranced from the moment that we arrived at the property. The photographs in the listing do not do justice to the building, in particular how solid, and spacious it actually is. The fixtures, fittings and decorations whilst in keeping with the age and history of the property provided a comfortable experience. The main bedroom contains a huge bed with acres of space to spare, while the ensuite was more than adequate for our needs. Very clean throughout, there were all the facilities and equipment we required for our 2 week stay. It felt like we were at home.
Lovely views from the conservatory. Lots of walks are available locally and the WIFI proved fast enough to meet the needs of teenage children unwilling to take advantage of those opportunities for exercise. However both the tennis court and the swimming pool were enjoyed by all the family.
Everything was well maintained and equipped, reflecting our hosts attention to detail and commitment to meeting the needs of their clients. Charlie in particular was very attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
